  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A mixture of rain, an SUV with a blowout swerving into my lane and clipping the car in front of me four hours from home ended up with my 2015 Genesis looking like this. The air bags did what they are supposed to do, so there were no real injuries other than the driver in front of me getting his right shin scrapped up when he hit the guardrail and my wife has a broken toenail. Our right front impacted the other car on the left rear.

I am happy that you and your wife walked away from that crash mostly unharmed. This car got a +safety rating for a good reason it seems.

Yikes, glad no harm. The car did its job to protect the occupants.

Glad to hear everyone walked away. I'll bet you can buff that right out, though.

Sucks big time. Have you picked a color for a new G80? Is your wife getting an artificial toe nail implant?

Thanks for the good comments. We were very fortunate to be in a car that protected us the way the Genesis did. My wife was saying she always wondered what it felt like when the airbags activated. Now she knows. It wasn't nearly as violent as what she'd been led to believe. She said it was like being briefly pushed with a really soft feather pillow. It really happens quick. The world turned white (airbag) just before I actually felt the impact on the other car.

The way Genesis USA is going right now I'm not sure I'd pick another Genesis. Although, a few weeks ago I was thinking something in the Genesis line-up might be nice in the future. It's beginning to look like the future may have arrived sooner than I expected as there have been some initial indications/opinions that my car will be considered totaled. I may look for something a bit smaller and more agile.

G70 might be the ticket.

Not so sure how well those comments go together.

That does seem to be a strange way of saying things doesn't it. I'd expect most mid to large sized cars today would have offered just as much protection.

I'm finding that as much as I like the Genesis that it is a lot more car than I need and seems slow to respond at times. We still haven't found out if the car is considered totaled or not, but I'm doing some research just in case and finding it hard to find a replacement. A G70 or Stinger would be about the right size on the external side, but the cramped back seat and small trunk make them "no go".

Just buy a 5.0 G80 or used Genesis 5.0, same great car with more power.:)

That has been in the back of my mind, but the 3.8 has more than enough power for me. After years of only being able to afford used cars and then have to spend a lot of money to keep them running, I decided several years ago that wasn't what I wanted to do anymore and the prices seemed to have really jumped on the Genesis models since the time I bought mine in 2015. I did get a pretty good deal on it back then, but I don't know if the discounts and "wiggle room" are as high on the new ones.

Of course this is still a bit premature since I haven't gotten the results of the estimate/insurance decision back yet.

So you want a small car with a big trunk. I actually understand that. In my case, the rear seat is rarely used so I don't care if it is cramped a bit but there are times I have to carry a wheelchair so I need a big enough trunk for it.

Yes, I am looking for a bit smaller car with a trunk close to the size of the G80 with good safety features, such as blind side monitor/notification, parking sensors, adaptive cruise with stop and go, autonomous emergency braking, etc. But, especially with HUD. That way I don't have to keep looking up and down to see the speed when I'm not using cruise control in bad weather conditions or when traffic conditions are right for using it.

I really liked my Genesis for long trips. I don't think I've ever had a car that comfortable for really long trips. My 2007 Avalanche LT was really comfortable for long trips, too. But, it doesn't have all the nice safety features that the newer cars have.

Compromise. Get a van and a Corvette.

I’m glad everyone is alright. Get a Chevy SS now

OMG. That looks bad. Glad you are fine. Hope the other guys involved are fine as well.

I should show this to my wife. She had stopped at the traffic light last week. A really big car came behind her and stopped as well. And then his leg slipped off the brake and the car rolled and hit my Genesis. The bumper cracked. The hassle of getting it fixed is just an annoyance. What you went through would have been terrifying and what you are going to go through to get the car repaired/buy a new car is bad as well.

Good luck.

Everyone in the accident came out fine. Only two vehicles bent. The one that spun in front of me and mine. The one I ran into was clipped my an SUV when it had a blowout and crossed into the left lane clipping the car in front of me.

Yep, a G70 would be OK if the back seat had enough room for large sized adults.

That'll buff out! ;)
Just kidding... glad to hear that all are OK.

Thank god you and your family are ok
