  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Owned the car for over a month, never noticed until the other day when I tried to play a CD, only to find out that the TIP (sport, at least) doesn't come with a CD player!?

If this were to me an important feature on a car, I’d certainly check the feature list prior to purchasing. CD players are going the way of vhs tapes, movies on dvd, etc. I’m sure they are an option on some but many manufacturers realize a significant number of buyers use their phone for music in their vehicle(s).

Do many cars these days still have CD players? Can't say I noticed when I was test driving, and I'd be surprised if they're common in 2019?

Funny, I tried to play an audio cassette recently too.

What I'd prefer to a CD player is storage capacity that allowed music to be transferred from a phone or other external device to the entertainment system itself. It's kind of a pain attaching and detaching the phone connection every time you get into or out of a car. And getting a separate phone to use as a dedicated media player is an unnecssary expense. If the phone I had before my current one had survived, that might be an option but it developed a reboot loop and is now worthless. It would be nice if all the data you wanted could be stored on the system itself in a form that allow for fast retrieval and some degree of management. Some cars will accept SD cards, for example, where you can put a lot of music. That is a nice backup even if you usually use your phone but have forgotten it on a given day. Memory card readers are really cheap and it wouldn't take much software to provide some functionality. Don't know why more audio system manufacturers don't provide this capability.

just buy a used iPod nano or touch or something and keep it in the car... you can probably get a used one on ebay for around $50ish... that's what my parents did with their Cadillac and they just keep it plugged in all the time.

Or better yet you should just be able to use a USB drive. Load up a bunch of MP3s on a USB drive and plug it in and forget about it. Then you should be able to select the USB drive as the audio source and play our music that way.

Honestly, the cheap iPod is the best option because it's plug and forget

I use a really small USB thumb drive and load it full of MP3's and FLACs. It just stays plugged into the car all of the time.

Same here, small USB drive plugged to the USB port with thousands of mp3 on it.

That's great to hear. Somewhere around here, I have a nice small thumb drive. It would be ideal to load it to the gills with music and use that as my streaming source if, for some reason, I don't have my phone with me.

Thanks guys!

For any audio guys on here one thing to note is that if you're listening to FLACs, the unit can only decode up to 16bit/192khz. You're going to have to downsample any 24 or 32bit files.

Not sure if my CD player works or not, never tried it. Like Electrode above mine has a magnetic phone mount stuck in the slot.

We have tried the ipod trick with a 3.5 mm male-male cable and plugged it into the AUX jack. It plays the tunes but controlling the ipod with fwd, skip, repeat, random controls did not work. Next we loaded up a thumb drive and selected the USB as input. This worked better but the songs had to mp3. There is also a conflict with using Andtroid Auto since it requires USB to connect the car and phone. This allows more control. Mary wants Android Auto to do navigation but does not want to load her phone with music. Does anyone know if a USB hub would work. We would plug the phone and thumb drive into the hub and the hub into the USB. Would the G70 be smart enough to handle both inputs?

I am a newbie haven’t purchased yet so I have no reference, but can you play Bluetooth Audio?

Look into Fiio X5 mk3... I have one and it has 2 micro SD slots so you get 512gigs of expandable storage on top of the 32gigs of internal. I put a large portion of my “cd” collection on the FLAC and transferred it over. It has great processing and will work better than almost any stock or aftermarket CD player out there.

Should be able to get it for $300 - $350... I’m a bit of an audiophile so I use it in my car and in my music room for my digital setup. Works great in the car, my 2.1 monitor setup, and my Audeze cans.

that's a pretty neat little device.. I might just have to invest in one.. I have nearly 1000s CD between me and the wife, and maybe close to the same number of LPs, been looking for a FLAC device to put all of that onto for awhile, but most cost $1000s.. Sony had a CD --> HDD Flac ripper awhile back that started at $5,500.. There are some cheapo Chinese ones, but they are still nearly $1000.

it's really not something I like to do on a PC, I only have laptops, and none have CD players, so I have to use an external and it is very cumbersome.

I still use a 100 disc CD juke box that is nearly 20 years old simply because my wife hates technology and won't use her iphone for music.

I only have a laptop as well but have external CD/Dvd drive as well as an external SDD backup drive. I have probably 2k+ cds plus I also go to the library frequently to get music as well. I just make sure to rip all of the CDs when I get them / listen to them so it's a relatively quick process.

The Fiio is a Chinese product but they are good quality... If you go to headfi.com (I'm a member) and they have lots of reviews. I like the X5 for my needs but they have a M6 for more mobile purposes. They also have an X7 and M7 for higher end specs but I didn't need it.
