  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

So...NFL starts tonight. Think any new information will come out? Perhaps first commercial? They probably f’d that up as well.

Saddens me to say but I am no longer going to hold out for the G70, despite all the recent news.

Having already extended my lease into the fall, I bought myself some time, but with the very late summer/early fall launch combined with the possibility of my dealership not being ready to sell as early as others, and the rumors that my specific color could be a special order, it's cutting it too close for me. All that aside, I stumbled upon a deal for a Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG that I can't pass up and risk letting that slip through. So to my US friends, I hope you all get your G70's and hope to see some around my area soon :) Cheers.

Oh this doesn't mean I'm leaving either, I want to see when the actual pricing comes out and sales begin just to see everyone's experience and the collective sigh of relief I'm sure will occur. Plus you never know, in a few years I could join the club!

It's a shame, but congrats on the new car!

The GLA45 looks pretty dang nice in person. I've been a fan of that car since I first saw it up close. Enjoy it!

Wow. Must be some deal to get a comparably equipped Benz priced down from $70+? Good luck.

tymless,

I hope you have been able to get long and very thorough test in the GLA. I waited for a year and a half to get one of the very first AMG-CLA45s in the US. I finally sold it after a year of hugh dislike of the car. You can imagine the hit for depreciation after one year.

The car was basically the cheapest car MB could make with a great engine and a 'not ready for prime time' dual clutch tranny. I have 20 years of racing experience behind me, so I have some knowledge of the compromises, (and expenses) necessary in designing a street car that handles well. MB again cheaped out, and made the car too harsh for a daily driver. I'm not saying that the 2018-19 may not be a much improved car, but be careful.

Isn't that car FWD based? have fun with the choice

1) By "physical presence", I mean there are currently 3 mall showrooms (Edmonton @ Premium Outlets, Mississauga @ Square One, Laval @ Carrefour Laval) in addition to 2 locations in more traditional auto retail settings (Downtown in Toronto on Queen St E, and Québec).

2) By stand-alone I mean full-size traditional "dealer", with a building on its own featuring a showroom and service drive-through, the latter of which being critical for Canada. The Genesis distributors in Canada will be allowed to share the garage with their Hyundai store, but nothing else - all customer facing elements must be completely separate.

Buildings can be co-located on the same property or even attached, but the showrooms cannot be accessible from one another. Because they're allowed to use the Hyundai garage (all Hyundai dealers nationwide currently undergoing major upgrades and expansion, so timing is perfect), it opens up lots of creative options for the Genesis showroom - i.e. it can be on a property nearby, doesn't necessarily need to be in the same place.

Thanks for the clarification - PD705!

Thought there were only a few mall showrooms, etc. up and running at this juncture (which explains the relatively low sales, esp. for the G80), but when someone stated that there were around 20 some Genesis dealerships, thought that meant 20 some showrooms, etc.

I did not get specifically into any States other than VA, NC, SC and GA (where he is). Sorry about that. But...he said that out of 50 States...only 10 were left finalizing licensing. After that...specific dealers need to get picked out...legal doco's signed...get their tax permits...then they can sell.

He did specifically say that if a State was ready to sell...they will sell. No State will hold up any other. To add to that...if a dealer is ready to go before another dealer within the same State...they will be ready to go.

So...there is one dealer in VA (keeping it to myself...sorry)...that will be the first dealer in the USA to get cars. I'm #1 on their list...LOL.
So is this the same dealer that told me they are the first in VA to get cars and the first approved dealership in VA?

Can you text me at 7034014218 or email me at StevenD11987@gmail.com please? I tried to PM you but the forum says I don't have permission to send PMs to anyone yet.

If it's the same dealer we are talking about I am not first on the list so you will def have the advantage over me and I am not trying to beat you to purchasing the car or anything, I would just like to get on the list since I live in NOVA. It would also be nice to confirm the sales manager I have been speaking to has not been lieing to me so I don't buy a car from him if he is dishonest.

Quick update...got a call from one of the top execs. He was a tad bit testy...saying I should be using the proper channels for communication, etc. I calmed him down after I said that nobody...not one single person...knows anything. I did not mention that I talked to Mr. Dawson

Anyhoo...ended up having a good chat...nothing new learned. I'm a good sweet talker...so got him to be talkative again, etc.

With all that said...I told him about my little mission today to consolidate the CAN and USA spec sheets. He got quite a chuckle out of it. I asked him if there was an official brochure out yet...and if there was...could he mail it to me or send an electronic copy. He was kind of thinking out loud...and we both agreed that anything in a brochure would not be embargoed. Brochures do not contain pricing...just options, descriptions, etc...all that has been released.

It does exist.

So...he was going to ask permission to see if he could pass it on. I should know today or Monday. So stay tuned.

"Look, I'll just start saying numbers counting down from $50k and you just cough if I'm getting closer to the top end 3.3t specs"

Funny you just said that. I asked him if he's ever played over/under. He just laughed and said nice try.

Where's the Beef? On the G70 Forum of course!! :D Thanks for the info

Much of the same info. in this Ward's Auto article about the Genesis rollout.

But a few interesting points...

Genesis to Mark New Phase With Repositioned U.S. Dealer Network

Genesis is in the midst of applying to each U.S. state for the right to license franchisees separate from Hyundai, a task that should be wound up by the end of the year. So far, the brand has secured licenses in about 40 of the 50 states.

Once it has a license, it can make offers to dealers in that state to sign new franchise agreements. Current dealers have two options: Ink the new deal or take a cash buyout based on their past sales performance. At the point the contract is offered, current franchise holders have 30 days to make a final decision, but all already have a clear understanding of the buyout terms. More than half are expected to opt out.

Currently, 850 Hyundai retailers are licensed to sell Genesis, but that is expected to drop to about 400 once the herd is culled over the next six months. Even that doesn’t go far enough to perfectly position the brand for success, executives say, and the network is projected to shrink further in coming years.

Four hundred is still higher than what is ideal,” admits Genesis Executive Director Erwin Raphael, on hand here for a media backgrounder on the new G70 sport sedan, the smallest and most nimble of the cars in the Genesis lineup.

In actuality, less than half of that sells both the G80 and G90.

400 is a lot more than the 100 or so dealer network that was initially planned - and a good bit higher than what I was expecting (somewhere btwn 250-300).

But there seems to be a reason for that...

Genesis would like dealers that stick with the brand to set up stand-alone showrooms, but it is not required and not all are expected to make the investment. Raphael says the first dedicated stores should begin to appear within a couple of years.

“I would like them all to be exclusive (showrooms),” he says. “We won’t be able to deliver the (customer) experience without it.”

The new showroom design template still is being finalized, he says, but dealers who opt to add the stand-alone showrooms will not be forced to meet a specific minimum investment target.

We have no dollar (requirement),” Raphael says, adding Genesis may offer incentives to some dealers to build showrooms in key markets.

This contrary to what Genesis had been saying (wonder what prompted the change?) and w/o such requirements, no wonder there are 400 some dealerships interested in selling Genesis.

Florida accounts for about 22% of Genesis sales in the U.S., with the West Coast (primarily California and the Phoenix market) equaling that share and a similar portion coming from the East Coast.
“Chicago is coming up,” Raphael says, but overall the Midwest is not a key market for Genesis.

Don't expect to see Genesis sales to recover until the dealerships in FL, the West Coast, TX and the East Coast are stocked w/ the '19MY.
