  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Some new news...and it's not good.

So when I talked with Mr. Dawson...the news was that States would roll out individually...as their paperwork is finalized, etc. That is when he mentioned VA being one of the first, etc.

I talked to my dealer's GM who literally just got off the phone with the sales rep for the southern east coast.

That initial news has changed. He did say it is a gray area still. But in essence...Genesis now wants to do a national rollout. Meaning...they want all States to be ready with all the paper work to start selling.

Well as you all know very well...we have some States that are a mess. So we wait on them. Could be a month...could be 2. Who the F knows.

He confirmed GA has cars...but they cannot sell them.

He is calling me later on today as he is talking with some other folks higher up.

OMG. If this is really true...and we have to wait another month or 2...I am done. As munch as I love this car...I just cannot deal with this shit anymore.

Anyone here from GA? Perhaps go on a mission and contact any Genesis dealers that may have these cars...and find out from them when they can sell, etc. PITA but could be worth it to get the scoop.

What a fuckshow of a nightmare.

Update: He called me back. Turns out...they will not penalize dealers that got their paperwork together. So it WILL rollout State to State. Sheesh. Sorry about that. He said that the States that are ready will not see cars for another 15-30 days. They may see them...but not sell them. Again...not sure what the truth is to that. Other slow States can be well beyond that. He said the issue now is DMV laws in different States, etc. OMG.

This is extremely frustrating, as much as they've screwed up the rollout at this point a consistent and transparent message is their best route. With all the delays and 'available soon' remarks (Genesis USA Instagram as far back as June, publications listing July/August) I'm feeling somewhat resigned to this 'hopefully' being a Christmas present to myself. Very disappointing because I'd like to sell my IS350 before November while it's still under warranty.

Got my first dealer phone call.

Alexandria, VA is the FIRST Genesis dealer in the USA. Their dealer code is even #1.

Anyhoo...they got their allocation email and he called me. I am declining all of them at this point...not one single 3.3T AWD Sport !!! Wow.

Here is the breakdown of what he is getting...

  • 11 cars...
  • 2 AWD 2.0T (Ibis White and Malorca Blue)
  • 5 RWD 3.3T (1 is Design edition in green and 1 Dynamic in red)
  • 4 RWD 2.0T
NOTE...IMPORTANT: He does NOT have a delivery date. He said they could show up this week...or in several weeks. So do NOT show up (if you live near there) expecting to see cars. Also...don't call bombarding them with questions. If you are serious about one of the above cars...feel free to call and ask about specific colors and trim...and potentially claim one. He does not know other States, other dealers...or any other details that we discuss here.

Cheers...B.

I called Peacock of Savannah yesterday. The lady I spoke to said they did not have any cars yet and she did not have any data on when they would be there and for sale. I also drove by the port at Brunswick and spotted some. The Port Police were buzzing around close by so I did not stop and grab any pictures.

Wow. At this rate, it'll be mid next year before I can get a vehicle that I want. Oh well.

What a joke. That Gulia is looking better and better with each misstep....

At this rate some parts of the US might see the 2020 model as their first option. Coming Soon TM - genesis USA new slogan apparently

Yeah, and I keep remembering how breathtaking the acceleration and handling were on that Mustang (to mention just one alternative). I'll hold a while longer for the G70 but if it's going to be months before they get a car I want, then I may not have the staying power. I really don't have any pressure on me to replace what we're driving now, although my wife's Subaru (which we would trade) is getting to the stage where some investment would probably be necessary if we kept it for another year. No lease or payment pressures as we own both cars outright. I'd prefer to do something sooner but I really don't have to and as winter approaches, a deal becomes less appealing. What I own in December is what my taxes will be based on. As that date approaches, I derive less and less benefit from ownership for a shorter and shorter duration of 2018 but from a tax perspective, I've had the car for the whole year. Meanwhile, I have to say my excitement for the G70 has diminished with all of the delays. Seems I'm not alone. Ads won't really stoke my interest at this point because I've already completely familiarized myself with the car, short of a test drive. Ads can only present more of the same for those of us here who've been following this car since its announcement.

I hear that. I'm in love with that car, but 280hp just didn't feel like enough for me on my test drive. That said, despite it being out of my price range right now, I'm really tempted to save up for a Quadrifolio. My dealer is offering discounts on all models, though not as reduced as the Stinger, I can't help but day dream and plan out my finances.

Edit: Been perusing the Alfa QV forums and have noticed several complaints of random problems, mostly electric and software, to where their cars had to be in the shop several times in a row to get problems resolved. This is disheartening.... Perhaps my patience for the G70 has suddenly grown. Haha.

The Alpha is a reliability nightmare...if you get one, be sure it is not your only vehicle. As they say, good things come to those who wait...

Yeah I wanted a QV, but after even the press vehicles had problems I ruled it out. I'm not about to be getting stranded all the time.

I’m not so sure they will have that luxury.

I live near the headquarters of Kia USA. The nearest Kia dealer has 33 Stingers and I’ve only seen 3 driving around since they’ve gone on sale. We are in the know about the G70. The G80 is a great car, but all around me on the road are a bunch of Lexus ES and Mercedes E Class. The Genesis brand has still got a long way to get recognition.

Genesis sales have been terrible this year, even more so the last few months. My thinking is those dealers that get G70s will be happy to actually be able to sell something.

On the other hand, if the supply is low, that would give the dealers a better hand to play.

That's interesting as I've seen at least 6 or 7 Stingers in the NW Chicago suburbs.

I’m at the park. Coaching soccer practice. Ball kicked into parking lot. Rolls right up to a beautiful dark gray G80. Very nice. Still got to drive the G70 before thinking of something that big.

I have to tell you, I was seriously considering the G70 but, this past Friday changed my mind.
I was sitting in a Starbucks parking lot here on Long Island, and the car was totaled in a freak accident. Woman in a Land Rover jumped the curb on the main road, lost total control, took out 4 signs and a 50 foot light pole, went airborne, turned on its side, and slammed into me. I was sitting in the car, talking to my brother.
The “bigness” of that car, saved me.

Wow! Scary moment. Hope you and everyone is OK 🙏🏼

Dang, that's sketchy!! Glad you were safe!

As skewed as Genesis dealer foot print is at least a Hyundai dealer can service a Genesis. Alfa dealers are folding, just recently in Richmond. Closest dealer is 55 miles away. The Gulia is a beauty from afar. When you get close enough to see the sticker, Chrysler & Fiat are clearly noted on the top. Two names synonymous with quality, service, and longevity. I applauded your patience. I’m glad I picked up a G80 Sport in May.

Wow, talk about freak accidents. Glad you are OK.

Bigness helps. OTOH, Hyundai/Genesis is building some of the safest cars out there. Pick G80 or 90 then.

I’m just banged up and bruised.
I should have said, I was talking to my brother on the Bluetooth. As I found out later, the police told me I was lucky I had the ignition on. They told me if it was off, the airbags wouldn’t have deployed.
