  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Know what?
You mentioned that only the virtual cockpit is coming for 2020. I heard that the Korean release would get a 2019 mid-year refresh that presumably would come around March/April 2019. I am kinda waiting until more news about that surfaces and then I'll make a decision whether to get a 2019 model or wait for the 2020 in hopes some of the mid-year refresh would make it to the states. Maybe the info mentioned earlier (VC and such) is actually what they planned for mid-year, but they got it done quicker? I don't know... As someone else mentioned, I'd hate to miss out on some good improvements than have the car a few months earlier. At the rate we're going here in CA, we may not even see the G70 until early next year.

If you think about it, the 2020 year will be the 3rd production year for the G70 (2nd for US), so there may indeed by some interesting new features/updates coming to the US via this mid-year refresh! I know some will say, better to enjoy the car now than wait, but this is an individual choice.

Gotcha. So a few things...

- The Virtual Cockpit 3D thingee...that is coming out in S.Korea...who knows when (and if) it will make it to USA/Canada.
- The LSD/AWD and the Smart Trunk options they mention...we have that already. Both were omitted in the S.Korean market and apparently a big stink was made about it. So they are adding it to the S.Korean model.
- I think the Infotainment system goes HD. But...it is the same...touchscreen and no MMI-type interface.

So as of right now...if you were to hold out...you would "maybe" get a 3D virtual cockpit.

I am glad I don't have to make a buying decision now because there is no info on when or if the g70 will
be available in my state or city.

I am waiting until next year to pull the trigger on the G70, not because I'm waiting for specific features, but because of my personal timing. I am trying to squeeze another year out of my 2007 Acura. The major features I want are already in the car:
-365 hp, 376 lb-ft torque
-adaptive cruise control
-brake hold
-surround view camera (have scratched my wheels on a curb a couple of times and that pissed me off so much!)

But, I gotta say, that virtual dash in the pic is hideous! Those things are user configurable right? So you can go through some menus and choose the dual-round-dial setup? I hope so, 'cause I couldn't bare to look at that screen (shown in the pic) every day!

The Virtual Cockpit (stolen from Audi by @Beefer ;)) statement is really very generous as all we know is it'll replace the existing real gauges with center screen with a full sized display. There's no indication they'll put the map in there and as far as I see from the article, it may just be a blingy replacement for the existing gauges and center screen. If that's all it is, then not worth waiting for in my opinion. BUT if they put the map in there and some other useful features, it could be a big plus!

Regarding "Revised HD Infotainment System", you may be selling that short saying it's just an HD display with still no MMI knob. Hard to imagine after this being one of the major nit picks from people criticizing the "lift and shift" Hyundai infotainment, that they'd simply go with a higher res screen. I would think this will be a bigger change that is more in line with other lux brand infotainment systems.

Audi has removed the MMI knob/pad from the new redesigned models and my guess is that it will no longer be available in any redesigned/new models in the future.

If you look at the S.Korean brochure...it shows the new 3D display behind the steering wheel and the center console has the identical setup. So the Infotainment has not changed other than software-wise if it did. Hardware is unchanged.

What are they replacing it with? They going touchscreen like the G70?

Yes, the new ones have two touchscreens. The top one is for navigation, infotainment, etc.and the bottom is for climate and it reads handwriting for destinations.2019-audi-a6-121-1526939461.webp

So how do you control stuff?...no knob or anything?...just via those 2 screens?

Also...new A4/S4S/5 won't get that...pretty sure. The higher cars get it first...then it eventually trickles down to the lower wankers.

Do not like. One of my favorite things about my Mazda 3 is the MMI-like feature in the middle of car. My hand is always in that area in the first place due to it being manual and the physical knob is much more intuitive, not to mention, no finger prints!

Based on full digital gauges in other cars so far, have there been any good features implemented with it besides the full screen map? I feel like besides Audi's Google Earth map, I haven't heard of anything revolutionary with digital clusters besides looking cool.

Even if the preview pictures look weird and tacky, I trust Genesis to have a good looking mode among its various display modes. I may just wait for the improvements to move to the US just so insurance rates can fall over time first. Can US cars only update every model year, or could Genesis implement this to the US market also under the 2019 MY?

Yeah, it's all within the menus. Ford with their Sync (or whatever the hell they're calling it these days) is very similar. My dad's old ~2013 Exploder had similar functionality. The heated seats and all HVAC controls were accessed within the menus. Great for when you're trying to do 80mph on the Interstate...Jeep's Grand Cherokee is very similar as well, though you do have some physical buttons.

The easiest way to compare it in my opinion would be to the iPhone X, XS, XS Max. All touch screen, no Home button.

Probably on the next generations of those vehicles. I’ve always found it nice to have two options when it comes to displays. Having a touchscreen and having an MMI so it can cater to either of the person using it.

There is a knob for volume control that I think jogs and can do stations. You can control by touchscreen, steering wheel or voice. It is supposed to understand conversational speech so if you say "I'm cold" it will ask what temperature it should set the heat to. Say "I'm hungry" it will search for local restaurants. I think a lot of it won't be usable but it is there. The upper touch screen is similar to a phone so you can move around icons, add favorites etc.

I think as all models are redesigned the screens will show up but it could be awhile for that.

Wow...I actually hate that. Anything that forces you to look away sucks. The current MMI...I just glance over...and I just control everything with my hand. I have all the button placements memorized, etc. Having to reach out and touch, etc...is too distracting. I guess this is where things are going. Bummer.

I look at the Audi UK site. A trick I always do. They always have the latest models and year. The 2019 A4/S4/etc are unchanged...same knob as now, etc.

Isn’t that something that Land Rover is now offering on the refreshed Range Rover as well as the Velar where one screen is the Infotainment system and the bottom screen is the HVAC controls??

Could be, not a Land Rover fan (even though they are always all over the British TV I watch) so haven't checked them out.

Neither am I. I’m not a huge fan on having the HVAC system on a display as if the computer or the screen malfunctions you can’t change the air temperature in the vehicle. Sure it looks clean but don’t really see the point in it.

Probably just design and a reason to charge more. ;)
