  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

I think we've strayed off topic due to the fact that there are still very few dealerships across the country that have them. Chicago is not exactly a small hub/city and we don't have any yet. In fact, this article describes exactly your scenario and they even interviewed a Chicago Genesis dealership owner.

The Genesis G70 Is Finally Arriving But Is It Too Late?
Chicago is also a mini-New York/California, with the bureaucratic regulations/red tape and hoops to jump through it wouldn't surprise me if Illinois were delayed even more than other states.

Yeah, no doubt. I'm just glad I don't need a new car right now. These kinks they're running into is really going to hurt them in the end though, because basically those whose lease is up and want a G70 are going to have their hands forced and ultimately buy the competition. Not a good way to start a newer brand.

Even dealerships that have them, the cars are just trickling in. Im close to changing the color/trim I want just so I can get the car because apparently a black on black advanced doesnt exist in the states yet. My dealership and sales dude is really helpful, but they cant do anything about the cars coming in. Genesis is really continuing to screw the pooch on this one. Im cross shopping against a Golf R and going to test drive on this weekend. Might pull me away from the G70 knowing I can at least buy that one off the lot and save close to 5G

The Genesis G70 Is Finally Arriving But Is It Too Late?

The article sited underscores some points I've noted over the past several months. The delays in the G70 release have cost them sales. People are getting tired of waiting and other cars from competing companies are showing up on dealers' lots while the G70 is mostly unavailable in the US, except for a few dealerships in only 8 of 50 states. And the models available at those dealerships are only a narrow slice of the various model combinations of the G70 that are potentially being turned out. Even if your state has a dealership, it may still be several hundred miles form where you live and they may not have the specific version of the G70 you're wanting. If you can't get the G70 you really want, that makes it a lot easier to forego a G70 altogether and consider a car from a different maker. Add the perception issue, of a company that seems unable to get its act together, and it all works against Genesis at a time when they're trying to establish a premium identity. They need to get issues settled in the states where things are still in limbo and speed up the process as best they can. Of course, they should have anticipated these problems and planned proactively long before now. But that ship has sailed.

It'll get sorted out eventually, but in the meantime, they've already lost some sales, the peak car-buying season has passed, and the competition will soon have new models and heavily discounted 2018 models on offer to tempt buyers away from the G70. I don't have any external pressures to buy immediately, so I'll wait around a while. But potential trades and investment portfolios (at least in the last couple of weeks or so) are losing value. That essentially increases the cost of buying a G70 now, as compared to what it would have cost had it been available sooner. Stocks well may recover to some degree but trade values will continue to decline. All these factors make the G70 progressively less attractive than it once was, given how strong a competitive advantage its value originally was on paper.

At some point, we all reach a point where we tire of waiting and just start looking at alternatives. I haven't reached that point yet and I hope North Carolina starts seeing some cars on the ground in the next few weeks. I specifically hope that the dealer I've been in touch with gets some cars, as I'd prefer to stick with them. But if we get too close to the holidays with no cars available, I might tire of waiting and just want the closure that buying something else would offer. I'm guessing I'm not alone. We'll see, I guess.

Burns emailed me yesterday and pushed back my pickup date from 10/21 to 10/28 :( So close, but yet so far

The Mk7.5 Golf R is very nice; I was looking into a Mk7.5 GTI back before they were out too. Hard to beat that warranty, though I can't imagine VWoA will be very friendly about tuning it if something does happen. You might not return for the G70 after driving one. You just have to keep in mind that its roots are from a FWD "econobox," albeit, a very good one. The MQB platform is stout and there is a huge following of them.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I bet Genesis was not anticipating BMW releasing their new G20 3 Series Spring 2019, especially seeing that they modeled a lot of the dynamics off the current F30 generation 3 Series. That will hurt them, regardless of if the price is $6-10k more for an equivalently equipped model. The only saving grace that Genesis has at that point is they'll be forced to discount their cars when they are out and that they offer a 6MT version (the new G20 3 Series is automatic only, as is essentially every one of the G70's competitors). But lets face it. The take rate of the 6MT will probably be less than 10%, so that's not going to help Genesis much.

I predict that the new 3 Series will be almost out to dealerships by the time the G70 is truly available at most dealerships with actual selection of color combinations, model trims, etc. That's a scary thought considering this car, if you look back at Car and Driver and other publishers, said it'd be out by March/April of 2018.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully it comes quicker somehow. I don't know if you saw my post about the G80s and G90s there but they are now showing discounts of $1k on all 2019s (except for one). Maybe you can talk them into giving you the $1k on your G70 also because of the wait.

I may have to look at the G80 sport again. They are giving me a 1k brand grab discount for the G70 b/c I have a BMW. The Burns dude said he's really trying to get it sooner. I'm sure they are frustrated just like we are!

I'm sure they are also. I meant on top of that discount, can't hurt to ask. ;)

I spoke with Pugi Genesis in Downers Grove IL a few days ago. They said, whether it's true or not, that IL licensing and franchising is all done and their dealer is ready. They are simply waiting for the cars to arrive and expect them before the end of the month. Everything else is set. That's what they say at least.

Sadly I can't wait anymore. I've waited like 3 months with NO car and the carpooling and sharing isn't an option anymore. I hate to give up with just days remaining but tonight I'm buying something else. I'm not willing to take the risk of a rental that might last longer than I think and would add up in cost really damn quick. Even if they get the cars in they probably won't have the specific combo I want (which I don't even know yet since the press release doesn't have wheel pictures and the configurator isn't available) and prices likely aren't very flexible right now anyways so realistically it might be 2-3 months even if they get the first cars tonight.

I'm picking up something cheap to hold me over and maybe next year things will be settled down and I can get a good deal on a 2019 or pick up some new features on a 2020. Maybe something else entirely (if Jag would get Android Auto this would be easy). Unless Genesis wants to PM me and give me a loaner until they can get me the car I want ;) It's a shame though, I had a little group going and this is probably losing 2-4 sales rather than 1. Good luck everyone!

Has anyone seen any Design Editions for sale yet?? All I’ve seen is the Dynamic Edition.

That sucks that time has run out for you. Good idea to just get a cheap car and see what comes up in the next few years. Best of luck to you too!

Hey Brock, what are you thinking of getting instead? Just wondering.

Ahh okay thanks. So that means that 4 of them have been on dealer lots and 1 of them has sold. There is only 400 being made I believe for the first model year correct??
Correct. 400 of the design and dynamic...each. 800 total.

Has anyone seen any Design Editions for sale yet?? All I’ve seen is the Dynamic Edition.
Yes, there was one at Alexandria and one at Burns but I believe they both sold. I never got to see it in person.
{edit} I think Alexandria was getting one, but it hasn't appeared.

That is what I have read, 400 Design and 400 Dynamic.
