  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

At this point, it's kinda moot to debate if it were worth getting the Dynamic or the regular Sport trim. Some people would be willing to spend $750 even for a trim that had literally no differences except for being limited production, so $750 for minor changes isn't a big deal.

Congrats on the new top trim, limited edition car. Do the headrests by any chance have the Genesis logo stitched into them? I know the limited edition Design trim has that, and I was wondering if the Dynamic did too.
I cannot remember...I'll look at the pics the dealership sent me and get back to u.

There is not...only the Design does that.

I made a quick call for you alabaaster. For whatever reason...the Dynamic NO LONGER has room under the trunk bed for a spare tire. You can double check when you go see the car.

Not sure why they would go through the effort to do that.

So if you decide to move forward...the only way you can have a spare is keeping it in your actual truck. Obviously that is not an option. So you have to deal with the TMK which will not work if your tire is destroyed.

There is 24-hour roadside assistance included in your purchase though.

I totally
Honestly...have a chat with them...and tell them you didn't realize what you were getting. Sure you will still pay for the car...but see if they can help get you a deal on a spare and get it in the car. You can tell them to keep the TMK.

Unless you really don't care.

The way the TMK works is...you don't change a tire...no jack, etc. You fill the tire with goop...which seals the tire from the inside. There is a compressor as part of the kit that will then pump it up. If you get a blowout though...you have ZERO tire no matter what. I would go for the spare 110%.

Oh I totally knew what I was getting. I wanted the Dynamic edition from the get-go after I saw it at Alexandria. The spare tire thing I found out at Alexandria and it was a bummer, but I had already fallen in love. I know that the kit is like a fix-a-flat and basically useless :( The car at least does come w/ roadside assistance, and I'm sure I'll need it around here. I got nails in my run-flats 5 different times in 6 years. I really would like to have run flats than regular tires, but that's not an option.

I will def. ask them if I can get a spare tire too. Maybe they would throw that in for my troubles of waiting and traveling?

I just asked my husband if he remembered what is back there. He said there is a foam insert in the spare tire compartment which can be taken out. After that he plans to mount a tire in there, a donut at the least (if a full size don't fit). So I believe there is a way to get at least something in that compartment.

Ok good. The person that I talked to said there was actual metal there...which would defeat the purpose of saving weight !!! The car normally has a full spare...not a donut.

I'm curious about this topic as well because the 2.0 Sport 6MT, which I hope to buy, comes with the tire mobility kit. I would also want to put in a spare as I've had too many flats with low profile tires in the past and wouldn't want to have to wait for roadside assistance. If anyone's interested, the Redline youtube review of the 6MT shows a good look at the TMK and the foam insert, with the battery underneath (4:20 mark). I'm assuming it's the same setup as the 3.3 Dynamic Edition.

Yes, that is what the Dynamic had...so I'm hoping a donut would fit in there.

I haven’t seen a car with a full sized Spare in years. I highly doubt the G70 would have one.
That is what I mean by a full spare. Not a full tire as on the car...but not a tiny donut either.

Nomenclature! A "normal temporary spare" / I wouldn't confuse things by calling it a "full spare."
I think you might call all temporary spares a "donut," which would only be "tiny" if smaller was spec-ed for a small car.

Makes no sense. A donut is a temporary size spare, a full spare is a full size tire.
No. There is a full spare that is equivalent to the tire size on the car. Then there is a spare which is a bit smaller...you can drive a fair distance. Then there is a compact spare (donut) that is for very minimal distances.

To add...the only way I remember this is...I looked at the spare on my test drive. It was not a full tire (obvously)...but it was not the dinky donut tire either...it was in between. But that was in Canada. So they could have done something totally different in the USA.

No, that is not correct. A full size spare is a normal tire. A donut is another name for a temporary spare. How long can you drive on a donut spare tire?

Full-Size Matching Spare:
A fifth full-size tire that matches the current set of tires on your vehicle. If you're using a full-size matching tire as your "spare" remember to make it part of your vehicle's tire rotation pattern.

PROS: Having a full-size matching spare maintains the aesthetics of your vehicle and means that you may not have to drive straight to a repair shop or dealer in the event of a tire disablement.
CONS: You must also have storage space in your vehicle for a full-size spare. When it is time to purchase replacement tires, 5 tires instead of 4 should be purchased if you have rotated all 5 of the original tires.

Full-Size Non-Matching Spare:
A fifth full-size tire that does not match the current set of tires on your vehicle. Although this tire is a full size tire, it may not be the same size as the ground tires. The wheel may also be different than the wheels on which the ground tires are mounted. A full-size non-matching spare should not be a part of your vehicle's tire rotation pattern.

PROS: Having a full-size spare tire gives you more flexibility in that you may not need to drive straight to a tire repair shop or dealer in the event of a tire disablement.
CONS: Keep in mind that it will take up as much storage space as a full-size matching spare. Also, it may not aesthetically match the other tires and wheels on your vehicle.

Full-Size Temporary Spare:
This full-size temporary spare is built with a lightweight construction and a shallow tread depth. It should match the vehicle's tire size specifications but you should only use it as a spare.

PROS: Because these spare tires are full-size, they generally don't interfere with ABS, all-wheel drive or traction control. The lightweight construction won't add a lot of weight to your vehicle.
CONS: Although they won't add a lot of weight to your vehicle, these tires will still require a "full-size" amount of storage space and must still be considered temporary.

Compact Temporary Spare:
Lightweight with a shallow tread depth, these spare tires have much smaller dimensions and require a higher inflation pressure than both standard and temporary spare tires – generally 60 psi.

PROS: The compact temporary spare is specified and approved by your vehicle manufacturer for your specific vehicle and doesn't require the storage space of a full-size matching spare.
CONS: When small spare tires are in use, they might impair certain vehicle features like ABS, traction control, and even speedometer operation. It is intended for limited and restricted operation on your vehicle to get you to a tire repair shop or dealer.

Folding Temporary Spare:
An inflatable or collapsible temporary spare tire.

PROS: The compact temporary spare takes up the least amount of storage space of the various spare tire options.
CONS: The folding temporary spare tire is a little more difficult to use. It has to be inflated with either an air pump or a canister before you can use it. It is intended for limited and restricted operation on your vehicle to get you to a tire repair shop or dealer.

Full-Size Matching Spare:....
.

Don't see the relevance, no mention of donut. You will need to cite a source that says the term donut does not cover all temporary spares. You probably will also have to come up with something about your full size term. Probably best though if we drop it and just talk about he cars. ;)

My dealership said that Genesis doesn’t currently offer a spare tire kit for the G70’s. If I put one back there it would be homemade. My dealership offers a 5 year tire warranty and roadside assistance so I’m covered regardless.

Ok...so to just wrap this up...I have the dimension of the spare.

It is 80R 18. So it sits on an 18" rim...which is nice...longer distance if needed. Not that silly-ass looking "donut" where the rim size is like 10"...LOL
