Winter wheel & tire packages?

I ordered a tire / wheel package from Tire Rack, their 433 MHZ TPMS. Worked fine. Don't know which brand they use, it might be on their web site.

150 miles in cold rain, Interstate and back roads, the Pirelli Sottozero 3's gave excellent traction and responsiveness throughout. Really liking these tires.

We'll see what happens when it is snow. They are predicting more snow than usual in the Mid-Atlantic states to the higher precipitation we've been seeing.

Should work fine as long as it is not deep snow. I was offered the Pirelli and Michelin for the same price as the Continental and chose the Michelin instead because of the amount of snow drifts and open fields I have to drive through on my commute!

You have to pay a price (living in Canada) for the superior color options. I would have preferred the Nurburg Green over the Himalayan Gray, but it was only available on the Design in the US.

You choose the Pirelli's if most of your driving is on cold dry / wet pavement. Lots of snow and the Michelin sounds like a better choice from the reviews I've seen.

I took delivery of my G70 two days ago, santiago silver 3.3 sport. I special ordered the 19 inch staggered Pretige rims and Sottozero 3s for winter. Here’s are pics of both summers and winters, winters first. When I picked up the car the summers were installed by mistake and had to be flipped. And I went for 35 tint, hope it doesn’t look too dark, probably should have gone 50. It’s fine from inside the car.

Never been a fan of silver but love Santiago Silver on the G70.

Would have loved to do the same wheel setup as yours but those factory 19's are so expensive. The Sottozero 3s in the 19" staggered setup is also so expensive.

I went with the Sottozero 3s, but went to 18" wheels. Some loss of dry road performance v. the staggered 19", but better snow performance with the narrower tires. A little more comfort v. the 19s.

Like everything else, a tradeoff.

Given the relatively low price of the G70 when I was willing to get an equivalent car for $15k more, I decided to splurge on the snows. Also in Toronto I leave my snows on nearly half the year but we're mainly cold without a lot of snow.

interesting. i also asked about ordering the 10-spoke Prestige rims but there was never a follow up and i moved on. what did these go for, just out of curiosity? i always liked the look of the 10-spoke rim, very classy.

I paid a premium, $3800 for rims and tires, this after negotiating discount. I really like them.

The strength of the G70 design shows in how the wheel choice shows the car as "luxury" with the factory rims and as "SPORT" with dark rims with the character of the ones you have.

Yes but both of my rim choices are factory. My summers are the ‘sport’ ones that come with the car and the winters are the rims that come with the Prestige version.

How We Test

Consumer Reports tests more than 50 tire models every year for cars, SUVs, and trucks. A dozen or more tests are conducted by an expert team, mostly at our 327-acre Auto Test Center in Connecticut. We test braking on ice at a local skating rink, and an outside lab assesses tire rolling resistance, which affects a vehicle's fuel economy.
The Overall Score for each of these tires emphasizes snow traction and braking on ice—the main motivations for buying such tires in the first place. These tires typically have a tread compound that stays pliable in the cold and have numerous biting edges for gripping snow and ice. The trade-off is shorter tread life. We don't test winter/snow for tread life and most do not have treadwear warranties since they are intended to be used for just one season a year.

One advantage of the factory wheels, at least for Canada owners, according to some of the other threads here, is the longer Genesis warranty on the wheels.

I've had good luck with Tire Rack on previous vehicles, so it was easier for me to go with them. When I contacted Genesis and the dealer, there were no winter tire / wheel packages available. They couldn't give me a part number for the TPMS.

The Fast wheels have the 5 year warranty too as part of the winter package.
