  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Your view is that Genesis doesn’t think they need to take advantage of all this publicity and get the car out on the road in large numbers as soon as possible?

Would love to hear your thoughts.
Your assumptions may work better if it was an Elantra, not so much with a Genesis. There is a limited supply and probably will be for a while. There is a limited market for products in the 50k range. Many of us would like to have a Lamborghini, but it I saw 10 in one day the likelihood of me buying one remains the same.

Genesis had a lot of publicity, but there is still limited supply. No reason for big discounts yet. Try back in a few more years.

Good stuff. I was happy with $1k off MSRP. I wanted the car. Few grand was not going to kill it for me. Am I happy? f$%k yeah :)
In the end of the day, how much is your time worth!
I want discounts but I also don't want to get frustrated in the process and wait longer than I have to!

No way you can get a Conquest offer?
I currently own a Lexus, so I can do that (get the Conquest "rebate"); but I'll also keep the Lexus (as in, won't trade it in). :)

Thanks for your thoughts.

I shoulda mentioned when I threw out $35k above that my starting price is of course not the highest I'm willing to pay. ;-)

I spent a few years living and working in a culture where you bargain hard for most items, where it's very typical to start at 5, say, for an item marked 30, and end up paying 15. I don't naturally have a bargaining personality, but once I got the hang of it and realized it's all part of being friendly and sociable, I found it fun. Practicing the skill has helped me hugely with car purchases in the US. I sometimes forget that people who grow up in North America don't get this experience at all, then have to face a lot of stress when buying a car or a condo/house (which is stressful anyway!). My last car was a new model from a German make (after 15 years for me with a Toyota), in its first spring of availability and few of them out on the road. I think I got it for 7 or 8% under MSRP, and probably could have gotten a little bit more, but there was another couple on the lot at the time that had the look, to me, of the kind of people who write a check for MSRP, and I wanted that particular car.

I expect to be in Vegas in a few weeks for something and I hope to go take a look at the G70 in real life.

Doesn’t matter. You can keep it.
Yes -- apologies--should have been clearer. :) I'm giving the Lexus to my son but plan on using the Conquest one.
What I really want is another $1,000 as a current Hyundai owner (aka a "loyalty" one). (I had thought I saw them at one point--so who knows, by the time I buy maybe that will be there.)

I understand some cultures are like that and it is expected. Not so much here. If I had an item marked 30 and you offered me 5, I'd tell you to @#$ off and wouldn't sell it to you for less than 31. I'm willing to bargain, but don't insult me. Just sold a house recently and yes, it is a PITA.

Car buying is difficult and not matter how good the deal is, I think you end up getting screwed anyway. You do have to be willing to walk away. I'd done that and made the deal elsewhere. When they call you a day or two later it is a bit of fun to tell them you already made the deal, just not with them.

Totally agree. Honestly, it made me sick to think about paying MSRP. It's the opposite of what I stand for. I was getting ready to walk away from the G70 based on the principle of the thing. Finally, my wife stepped in and reminded me that this is the car I've been talking about for the past 18 months. I drove everything else in its class and I thought it destroyed them all. Is getting your 2nd choice worth $3k or so? Not to me. On top of that, my 2nd choice was the S4. It would have cost me at least $58k to get the options I wanted, and that includes $5k off MSRP. I was going to walk away from a $50k car to pay $58k for the car I didn't want as much, just to get a discount. Insane. I bit the bullet and haven't regretted it once. I love this car. Every time I get into my car or walk into the house after my commute I say, "I love my car."
How would you compare the S4 with the G70? I kind of thought the S4 was nicer, but haven't driven both. S4 has good incentives, so they're about net $6000 apart, if you can find a lightly optioned Prestige trim. Not an easy task.

The S4 is very nice. The interior design is clean and well laid out. The quilted sport seats are quite comfortable. There is great visibility, the back seat is a bit roomier than the G70, and the engine on that sucker is fantastic. I also like the multimedia system and the other tech.

All this said, I liked almost everything about the G70 better. The two exceptions are the all digital display cluster in the S4 and the back seat has more room. I love the sport seats in the S4, but they don't have ventilation. You have to change to different seats to get the ventilation. Also, if you want things like smart cruise control you pretty much have to check all the option boxes on the Prestige trim. The S4 is quicker, but not so much that it mattered to me. I also think the G70 looks much more aggressive and attractive. The S4 appearance is fine, but it's fairly boring—especially the side view. Ultimately, I liked the G70 more, it was cheaper, and it had every option I wanted. But, if you decide to go with the S4, you won't be disappointed. Great car.

S4 is not quicker...I have already proven that.

It’s more than annoying that a few folks who work for the company have manufacturer cars to drive and the rest of us in the headquarters state are waiting...waiting...waiting...

The Siberian Ice is an amazing, mysterious color. The photos I’ve snapped of either G80 Sport or G70 in Siberian Ice show that the “color” changes a bit depending on the light...sometimes more white, sometimes more gray, sometimes a bit of blue tint. I’ll defer to Beefer or another SI owner, but it does not seem to look as blue-ish as in the Genesis configerator.

I drove from Ohio to Michigan to inspect the G70..
The presentation of Siberian Ice via the Genesis website looks fantastic..
I saw the SI outside during a bright sunny day and it looks white..

By the way..
I didn’t notice much difference in performance between the 2.0 vs 3.3...hence I’ll save some bucks and get the 2.0..

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
^ no kidding...funny stuff. What sucks is he drove all that way and drove two different 2.0T cars...LOLOLOL. He never drove the 3.3T. Dyin’ over here.

S4 is not quicker...I have already proven that.
Proven? I’m not aware of any auto publications that have recorded a faster time for the G70 than the S4. I don’t doubt that you’ve beaten an S4 in a race, but on average the S4 has posted quicker times.

Are you sure you didn't drive two different 2.0T?
Difference is NIGHT AND DAY. More than 2 secs 0-60 MPH and you didn't noticed? :gee:

Sorry, but like others have said - there is no comparison between the 2.0 and 3.3. Difference in power is HUGE. There has to be something off about your test drive.

Don't get me wrong, the 2.0 feels decent and adequate; but, saying there isn't any noticeable difference between the 4 cylinder and V6 is just plain wrong.

Even so, I value your comparison between the S4 and G70.

I think you’re mixing together two of us. I gave the S4 comparison. A different poster said the 2.0 and 3.3 aren’t noticeably different. I agree that the 3.3T is a huge upgrade from the 2.0. I have a 3.3T. Not in the same league as the 4 cylinder.

Oh shoot. You're right.

Sorry!
