If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So its been several weeks (actually over a month now) and the bluelink registration fails on my car.
I have 2 open case with Hyundai Blue Link team - for which i keep calling them weekly to remind them to keep working on my case.

Long story short - they called me yesterday and said they think bluelink registration does not work on my car due to lot of water in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Ok , thats the 1st time i've heard of this .

They are suggesting drive inland to some place and try registration of bluelink there ?

I asked - ok where should i drive to ? How far inland . They said about 50 miles off the coast - so like Dublin / Pleasanton / Livermore area (if you're familiar with the Bay area) .

Sounds like a crazy idea to me , but i will do it this week.

sounds like they are grasping at anything.

they use Verizon/Sprint CDMA for the cars connection, do you have a Verizon cell phone or a friend with one? do you get signal on that phone in your area?

yes it looked like someone was just buying time .
I tried this but it did not work . Called back to Hyundai Bluelink and reported the Bluelink Registration failure .

They are again at it .

Hyundai BlueLink team wants me to take the car to the dealer to get the head unit checked .
Everything in the head unit works (i think) - except Blue Link registration .

Is it worth it getting the head unit checked ? It should be the LG unit - since I have ultimate edition.
I see old threads that some of the head units are defective and can cause problems in Reverse Camera double image / GPS location dropping / Sirrus XM dropping etc .

Video looks a bit scary on all the things they have to open just to get the head unit out . I mean what if they forget to connect back stuff ( :) just saying) -

I had mine changed and it was perfect. You'd never know they did anything.

In your case, I see two choices.
  1. Don't register Blue Link
  2. Trust them do what they feel will correct it.

I'm curious to learn if they ever fixed your problem, and if it was the replacement of the head unit that corrected it. My Blue Link also fails to register, and I'm currently waiting for Hyundai's 2nd teir support to call me (was told 3 to 5 business days).

No never worked . The head unit replacement was suggested .
The case is open with hyundai motor america for the last 4 months.

Thanks . You're lucky with a 2016 car - you are in the 3 year warranty.
I am not in the 3 year period - since i have a 2015 ultimate.

After 4 months of following up , and taking the car to the Hyundai Dealer several times , i am almost at a point of giving up BlueLink. Its not worth the hassle i think.

All my trips to the Hyundai Dealership are getting updated in the myhyundai service schedule.

Now HMA is saying this -
"Please be advised the head unit has a 3 year/36k miles warranty and the vehicle is past the warranty parameters by time"

But HMA is not able to prove me answers as to why the CPO car "Inspection check List" has not got checks for the Head Unit - BlueLink in the check list .

I doubt it is the head unit, more likely the bluelink module that is at issue

My understanding is that head unit is single unit with the blue link module and modem and the actual music system etc .

The hyundai dealer has said several times that it just needs to be replaced . HMA has to take a call if they foot the bill - 4k with parts and labor .

$4k? My head unit was just replaced on a 2018 for ~$1k. The TMU is built in to the head unit. The TMU was what went bad on mine with same symptoms.

Just the oem head unit is listed for $3.3k in parts . The control unit is $2.4k . Add the labor to it , since the complete dash has to be opened up to reach the head unit .

I had real difficulty connecting to Blue Link. Repeated trips to the dealership as they attempted the blue link hookup. Eventually replaced antenna...no go. Wound up replacing the entire head unit. Success! Under warranty, printout listed a nearly $6k replacement cost.

Wow, that’s crazy.

I took the car in for dealer inspection/diagnostic for this today, and the dealer in turn had to check with Hyundai to see if it would be covered under the original expired warranty. He texted me that they are covering it, and he's ordering the head unit today (I'll have to bring the car back in). I'll update when the repair is complete and I know the repair cost if it's shared with me.

That's great news. They offered me two invoices to sign, one with a $0 balance that they provided me a copy of, and another with the invoice from the dealer to the manufacturer. This one will have the costs on it. I took a picture of that one since they didn't want to give me a copy.

in the picture you posted #11 is the telematics module and it is not built in to the unit, it is a stand alone module.

Hyundai might not sell it as a serviceable part separate from the head unit under warranty coverage, but it is clearly a separate part,

here is a picture of it, out of a 2015/
