  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,
Finally got my daughter out for a show-off-the-new-car ride and the audio would not work. Nothing at all would play and the voice commands wouldn't work. Or if they did, I couldn't tell because I couldn't hear any responses from the car.
Arrived at destination with tail between my legs but when I reversed into a parking spot the audio came on. Did the shifting of gears throw a switch or is it coincidence? Am I in for a trip to the dealer already or is there something I am missing? There was a lot of ice on the car at startup, so maybe a sensor was blocked? It worked fine on the way home but she wasn't much impressed :-(

switching into reverse on my 2018 mutes the audio, technically it is a reduction in the sound output by 10 "points" on the volume meter, so if the volume is below 10 then it is a mute.

not sure if the 2015-2016 does the same, but if it does, it sounds like the reverse neutral switch that activates the reverse lights and this feature may have gotten stuck.,

if it happens again, might check to see if your reverse lights are stuck on while in drive.

Hmmm... Thanks. I will investigate!

Hi again,
Shifting into reverse doesn't lower the volume for me. So I don't think that was the problem with my loss of audio.
After that initial problem with the audio cutting out I haven't had any more trouble with that. But I noticed a different challenge yesterday. After loading all my CDs into the juke box, I started playing with menus and noticed that when looking at the list of songs, I can't scroll through them with the knob. I'll play with it more later, but do y'all have any things I might need to be aware of... and quirky behaviors you have noticed?

The jukebox interface isn’t very intuitive and it has a small glitch with regards to selecting folders/songs.

I made a video about it. Posts #29 and #30 in this thread

Thanks. I will play with the buttons some more, keeping the bug you found in mind.
Bob, having fun with the new toy!

I have total loss of sound at startup about once every other month since new. It also happens more often when I use the Blue Link app to remote start the car. It seems like something just randomly doesn't boot up properly. I always wait for about 15 seconds when I first start my car or after getting into it for the nav to boot up before driving off. If I don't have any sound by then the only way to get it going again is to turn off the car, open the door to shut off the nav screen and to restart the car. The dealer said they would replace the headset and amp if I bring it in while it's not working but from my research all they do is install a refurb unit which may end up having more issues. It's very annoying but seems like it’s just a software issue so I am living with it.

why restart the car, why not use the reset button on the unit itself, which accomplishes the same thing (complete power cycle of the head unit and amp) without having to pull over and turn off the car.

Or if a pen isn't available, just pop the SD card out/in and it will also reset.

didn't know that.. thanks.

I keep a unfolded paperclip in the little tray in the center console for this purpose though, I've had a few CDs get stuck in car players over the years, most have a manual release that requires a paper clip to release the CD.

I can never find a pen as someone always swipes them! I'll try the sd card trick next time;-)

Reset button? Or is that the pinhole thing you mentioned?

on the 9.2" screen (Ultimate and Sport versions of the car I believe) there is a reset button above the CD slot:

How can the dealer put a refurbished unit . It should always be new OEM parts .

no, not hardly.

while some parts are new OEM, major parts, like motors, heads, transmissions, radios and other electronics like ECUs, rear ends, etc. are typically refurbed units unless one is not available.

the law allows this under the context that you have a used part that is damaged, so it can legally under warranty be replaced with a used part that has been refurbished to OEM specification.

Atleast with BMW - they use the "using new or authorized remanufactured parts" in the warranty document . That is not a refurbished part .

I have seen my dealer use new parts most of the times.

Ill give the SD card trick a try next time. In a household with 4 girls trying to find a pen or a paperclip isn't that easy LOL! I don't exactly know what they do with them but every time they see one they take it.

Not entirely audeo related, but am I the only one that has trouble getting the voice activation feature to do what I want? I seems awfully particular about how requests are phrased. It works fine if you ask just right, but I seldom do. It's giving me performance anxiety. And can I use it to request songs from the juke box? If so, I haven't worked out the incantation yet.
Also, I reduced the tire pressure from the 42 pounds that the dealer had in there, and at 35 pounds it is a much sweeter ride. Funny how nice the manufacturer's recommendations work out. 🆒
