  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Smart Trunk not working

Perhaps the trunk remains openable in valet mode because the drop down back seats are not lockable?

the G70 rear seats fold down? damn I feel jipped. the G80s don't, and I would much prefer that over the smart trunk.

To clarify, no, the manual cannot be remote started.

I don't know if it would be available for the G70, but some aftermarket remotes could be used with a manual. More complex though as you have to bypass the clutch interlock as well as ensure it is in neutral and parking brake on.

If the valet button is locked, why does the glove compartment open?

Valet button disables the power trunk, you then use physical key to lock glove boc and give valet the fob without the physical key.

Pretty sure putting remote start on a manual car is illegal, specifically because of the danger of the car bucking forward and stalling if you leave it in gear. Some people have it retrofitted anyway, but you're not supposed to.

I can find nothing to say it is illegal. I can, however, find a dozen different starters for manual trans cars. They all have safeguards for the clutch and neutral thing.

If you have a cite, I'd like to see it.

I actually don't. Perhaps its just a myth that's perpetuated itself. Interestingly, there is an anti-idling law in NYC which would theoretically preclude any remote starter.

Is valet switch in all models with smart trunk?

not sure, I think it is on the models with the power trunk only.. I was unaware until recently that the smart trunk was even a thing on the models without the power trunk.

I think I read in the manual that G70 "Valet" mode is:
  1. removing the physical key from the fob
  2. Locking the glove box with that key
  3. leaving the fob with the Valet and keeping the physical key on you.
The fob without the key in it will still start the car and unlock the driver door only. Check the manual to be certain, but that's what I recall.
You forgot a step (1) Remove the Key (2) Press the LOCK button, INSIDE THE GLOVE BOX then (3) lock the glove box with the key.

I had this problem too, then realized that I had thrown my spare key set, which also had the valet key as well, in the glove compartment. It turns out that having the valet key in the vehicle, was preventing the smart trunk feature from working, as well as keeping the digital key from working. When I removed the valet key from the vehicle, everything started working again. Who'd a thunk it...
