  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Suspension Issue - A new take

All due respect, you completely missed the point.
I don't think that I missed what Crupp was saying. The request from Crupp was to "keep personal attacks and opinions of others to yourselves."

I don't believe that he was attempting to stifle discussion about the suspension, even though he personally may not agree with it.

Maxima. It rides like a dream in comparison - even on 45 series tires.
This morning my ride to work was in a car, instead of an ox cart.

Those are nice cars - best of luck with your new ride!

Nice car. I almost bought one, except I liked the looks of the Genny better and I liked where the NAV controller is on the Genny compared to the Maxima. I also liked that the Genny runs on regular fuel instead of Premium.

But I really really liked the handling and the CVT on the Maxima.

I'm currently working on deal to trade for VW CC VR6. Got a nice deal on outgoing 09, 32.5k.

Had several extended test drives; love it. Going to be a nice, if expensive, trade.

Thanks to everyone in these forums. Hope you never have to be in my shoes!

I'll be curious to hear how you feel the CC stacks up to the Genesis once you've owned it for a while.

Here is what Left Lane News had to say about the CC:

Driving Volkswagen’s CC got me in a Korean state of mind. More specifically, the Hyundai Genesis sedan I’d driven just a few weeks prior. Both have fantastic interiors that could easily find homes in more expensive cars. The CC has an excellent, contrasting interior with black, tan and aluminum elements throughout. The dash and door panels are made of high-quality plastics mostly soft to the touch. Even the seats look great, with tan leatherette seating surfaces and black leatherette covering the rest of the chair. Handsome stitching also shows someone at VW wanted to make these thrones look much better than average.

Unfortunately, the CC also reminds us of the Genesis sedan in the way it handles and rides. The ride is not smooth enough to be a true luxury sedan, and its handling isn’t quite good enough to make it a sport sedan. Like we said in the Genesis review, you can’t be a luxury sedan and a sport sedan at the same time.

This is true. Talk all you want, just don't attack. For whats is worth I have no problem with my V8 tech suspension (MFG 12/08).

Don't do it! Have you checked Volkswagen/Audi quality scores lately? At least the Genesis never left you stranded!
Also check out VW resale values...

Wow...this is nuts! And what a waste of the last 45 min.

I have my mouse hovering over the LOCK button on this thread!

However, after several attempts to lock this garbage, somebody opens them back up.

I dont get it. I have just read 22 pages and 15 of them are nothing but personal attacks, attitudes, and whining.

If we can not EFFECTIVELY moderate these discussions without them magically re-opening (clearing throat), than I see no use for use to be around here.

While I agree that not a lot of new material is being provided in this topic, perhaps the fact that it reopens is a hint that it doesn't need to be closed. If you feel there's personal attacks transpiring amongst a select few - simply closing a discussion isn't going to put an end to it, the proper thing to do would be to privately speak to the individuals involved and if necessary, take appropriate action against them - not the forum itself.

A moderator should not label his/her users' opinions (which a forum enables them to provide) as "a waste of time" and "whining" - personally, I find that rather unnecessary. Many here have spent $35-40k+ on new vehicles based on faith alone and have had nothing but heartache. I see nothing wrong with venting that frustration. Those who don't have a suspension issue most certainly don't need to be viewing this topic in the suspension forum if it is so bothersome to them.

With all due respect, a moderator coming along and insulting such discussion while publicly attacking the decisions of the forum administrator seems inappropriate and disrespectful in equal measure. There's misplaced topics all over this forum - surely more important things to worry about.

Folks, I realize that I don't belong here anymore having finally disposed of my ill-fated Genesis, and I will be vanishing off into the sunset soon...
FYI, I've written a strongly worded letter to the Genesis Team letting them know that people are abandoning their Genesis' because of the suspension problems and I have suggested that they provide a fix for the remaining owners ASAP. It will be interesting to see whether I even get a response. I will provide an update if I do.
I also started wondering whether I was getting "too picky" with the Genesis suspension, and literally started examining my thinking and imagination over "feeling all the bumps in the road", but now that I have the Maxima, sanity has returned and the exact same roads I traverse every day seem to have been miraculously repaved, and I am no longer constantly aware of the pavement.
The Max has only reaffirmed that there really is an issue with the Genesis, perhaps not only with the harshness of the ride, but also with the natural frequency of the suspension, and how the human body perceives oscillations. It certainly is not just a phenomenon imagined by the fussy few.
Having the Maxima is like taking a whole box of Ex-Lax.... relief.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Out of the 20k or so Genesis sedans sold how many owners do you think have ditched their car because of the suspension? My guess would be well under 1%. I don't think it's quite the widespread problem internet message boards would have you believe. For every dissatisfied owner I can find at least 12-18 who are as happy as pie. I happened to purchase my Genesis from a dealer in CA and had to have it delivered to NV. The lady who drove it 120 miles to my location (she delivers cars across state lines for a living) said she loved it and it reminded her of her BMW. Just sayin'. It seems that Hyundai is aware of the issue, but I doubt they're overly concerned. I don't say this to dismiss owners who have had suspension issues, only to say that they aren't the norm in my experience.

FWIW, I sincerely hope you are happier w/ your new car. :)

that was my experience exactly - enjoy the Maxima!

It doesnt matter how many (for the purposes of those who have an issue) and no one (including you) knows how many are affected one way or the other. We also don't know how many test drove and did not buy - I know and have talked to many such folks, but that proves nothing. I have over a hundred distinct personal emails from disatisfied owners, have talked to several on the phone and there are hundreds of similar postings here and on other boards from different people. But who knows how many anything.

I myself, spent the 40K on my "leap of faith." To say that my opinions are "unnecessary" is also a "waste of time." There is a difference in "venting" frustration about your car...and venting frustration about someone who disagrees with you.

With all due respect, Sir, my job as a moderator is just that, to keep the peace, to reorganize when needed, and to deal with individuals who have issues. The moderators of this forum do it for FREE, no money or perks exchange hands. We all agreed, even the site administrator, that we are to keep this place fun, informative, and free of spam. Do you think for 1 min. that I enjoy all of these disrespectful comments by our members? Our Administrator for this forum also runs a host of different forums. Check out Madison-Ross Media. He stops in every once in a while to check things out and makes sure we are on top of things. He does not even own a Genesis...hence the reason he opens the discussions back up. I have sent him PM's about this and am waiting his responses. "Misplaced topics" are the least of my worries.

Lets put it this way, as many of you know, I just purchased a used RX400h as a 2nd car. There are two main Lexus forums on the web. ClubLexus and LexusOwnersClub. As a visitor, I weaved my way through both forums looking for the most information I could get without reading a bunch of junk. After 5 min. in one of them I hit the big red X. Simply because it was filled with bad attitudes twards one another and that the moderators did NOT do their job keeping the place clean. If we keep going in the direction we are headed, visitors of this forum will find other places to hang out...just like I did.

So...to sum things up. Seeing that our administrator wills to keep these topics open, I will be all over these 3 topics that deal with suspension issues. If I feel as if you are fueling the fires or belittling other members, you will receive notification via PM.

I am a super nice guy. Rarely, do I get upset over anything...but to see this website turn into to something that we vowed to stay away from is really frustrating to me.

Have a great day Sir!

Here, here!!! Unfortunately there are one or two members here that tend to personalize issues and attack other members for not agreeing. I personally did not purchase a Genesis because of a couple bad pre-sales dealer experiences and simply decided that taking a chance on a first year car combined with uncertainty about the dealer was more risk than I was willing to take. I remain a huge fan of the Genesis and hope that Hyundai will encourage their dealers to move upscale along with their products. I truly enjoy coming to this forum and support the efforts of the moderators to keep this place both fun and informative. Keep up the good work, as I know the pay sucks and it is truly a labor of love. Peace.

Doug, How is that Milan treating you? Hope all is well with you my friend. Life with my Volvo S80 has been so far trouble free and the inline turbo six is a real kick. Glad to see you still pop in from time to time.

Listen (read) very closely...

From this point on, any personal attacks in this discussion will be dealt with by the offender receiving a one week (7 day) time-out. (Yes, that does sound childish - doesn't it...?)

If anyone sees a response with a personal edge to it, hit the REPORT POST button to let me know. *I* will ultimately be the one to decide who gets a time-out. And since I'm very tired of receiving complaints about this particular discussion, I'm going to have a very itchy trigger finger.

After you type your message, read it over. If you THINK it MIGHT sound a bit like an attack on another member, DELETE it or remove the offending text.

Shortly, I will be removing ALL replies that are about these attacks (those which have nothing to do with the Genesis suspension specifically).

The Milan has been really good so far - not a single problem and it rides beautifully. It's not luxurious, but is a very solid and (knock on wood) reliable car. So maybe the reviews are correct in this case. The SYNC functions are great for the IPOD - I never use the phone hookup. It's funny, cause I SWORE I would never own another Mercury after my bad experience with my 1995 Mystique - that was a great riding and handling car that beat me down with 7 recalls and several big warranty/non-warranty repairs till it finally just basicallyexploded at 95,000 miles. I've had the worst luck with cars. I'm either really unlucky or completely incompetent at choosing cars - maybe both! My Sante Fe was plaugued with major problems (though the model is overall reliable) including complete (very early) replacement of the transmission, calipers, windshield, sensors, and on and on. Then, of course the Genesis issue. I've figured out that if a car model has any sort of issue or weakness (no matter how uncommon) I will of course end up with one that has that issue or weakness and more. LOL. In the future, I'm just going to buy whatever strikes my fancy cause research has not helped me one bit! I do laugh about it.
