All,
Long story short, but I was sitting in my 2016 Hyundai Genesis with my family getting ready to head home from vacation. It was about 95 degrees and I had rolled all four windows down to cool the car down while packing the trunk. Was looking out and saying goodbye to family out the passenger window. Started rolling up all four windows and heard a "clunk" noise from the rear passenger area. Looked back to see the rear passenger window crack and splinter. My parents and other family members were watching and stated that nothing hit the window. The more I tried to roll it up for the ride home, the more it started shattering.
We identified that one of the little white clips that hold the glass in place had managed to partially separate from the glass and was upside down. I was able to remove that clip and get the window to roll up halfway. Duct taped up the window for the ride home and a little bit of safety. Took the car to the local Hyundai dealer and they are telling me that it will not be covered by warranty because it is a glass issue and there is no evidence that there is a mechanical problem. Total repair cost is going to be $1100!
Has anything similar happened to other owners? Any thoughts on what may have caused this to happen? Any comments on how to negotiate with Hyundai warranty department? I understand that it is glass, but myself and literally 7 other people watched the window break with no external factor. I am very disappointed with Hyundai warranty at this point in time :-( Any and all thoughts or input are appreciated.
