However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. All,

Long story short, but I was sitting in my 2016 Hyundai Genesis with my family getting ready to head home from vacation. It was about 95 degrees and I had rolled all four windows down to cool the car down while packing the trunk. Was looking out and saying goodbye to family out the passenger window. Started rolling up all four windows and heard a "clunk" noise from the rear passenger area. Looked back to see the rear passenger window crack and splinter. My parents and other family members were watching and stated that nothing hit the window. The more I tried to roll it up for the ride home, the more it started shattering.

We identified that one of the little white clips that hold the glass in place had managed to partially separate from the glass and was upside down. I was able to remove that clip and get the window to roll up halfway. Duct taped up the window for the ride home and a little bit of safety. Took the car to the local Hyundai dealer and they are telling me that it will not be covered by warranty because it is a glass issue and there is no evidence that there is a mechanical problem. Total repair cost is going to be $1100!

Has anything similar happened to other owners? Any thoughts on what may have caused this to happen? Any comments on how to negotiate with Hyundai warranty department? I understand that it is glass, but myself and literally 7 other people watched the window break with no external factor. I am very disappointed with Hyundai warranty at this point in time :-( Any and all thoughts or input are appreciated.

The glass is $391. The labor should be no more than 2 hours.

I think your dealer is ripping you off.

Maybe you didn't realize there was slight damage from a stone or something hitting the glass and then the act of opening and closing it made it worse. If you have glass coverage, go through your insurance

Unless you can prove that clip was the problem it is a glass issue. Glass can be temperamental and be damaged or dinged today but not break until stressed a week later. If you have full glass coverage it can be covered 100%. I had one broken in a storm. They had to order the glass but did it at my house in about a half hour.

Call your insurance and use their glass company. Mine used OEM glass.

Thanks guys... My insurance deductible is $1000. Sucks when I have to pay it for a claim, but this is the first time in 6 years, so I am still ahead financially with the lower premium.

Check your policy. Even with the typical collision deductible many have full glass coverage. Or you can add it for next time for very low $$

That's what I did for our two...Genesises?...Genesis's....Genesis'....Genesi?......our two cars that are both a Genesis. Glass coverage with 0$ deductible wasn't much extra a month. Sent them an email to confirm that glass and labor were both covered before I changed the policy over.

I am very disappointed with my Brand New 2020 Palisaide .Brought her august9 2019. n Dec 13 2019 Taking my granddaughters Christmas shopping.I stopped too let A guy turn in front of me.When I started to go again there was a huge explosiom and my passenger window behind the drivers seat crumbled all over my Granddaughter.I am thankful that I was not driving especially on the highway when this happened. I don't like to imagine what could have happened to my Grandaughter I took my vechile to my Hyundai dealerand they tell me That they do not cover it under Warranty. They even asked me if I backed up and hit the window.NO
I did not hit it...there was no warning... I was not even moving Just starting to... I think this should be covered It could have been a very Dangerous situation. And I think that their compassion and service overall SUCKS.

It sounds maybe a rock was kicked up by another vehicle either from close by or it could have been from a distance away. Or maybe someone threw something that unfortunately hit your car.

I once had a large rock come flying through my front driver side window while driving highway speed, it entered my vehicle, heard it wiz by my ear, thank God, and then got lodged between the rear deck and rear window! I probably would have been seriously injured or killed if it actually hit me.. No other vehicles were close by. It was on a major highway with a large median in between my direction of travel and the other direction. I have no idea where it could have come from as it didn't make sense.

Glad to hear everyone is ok.

Sorry to tell you this, but there is no reason it should be covered under warranty. You have to prove it had a defect. Something caused the glass to shatter. Could be as simple as a stone kicked up by a passing car, an intentional smack by a passerby. an idiot with a BB gun. I had one break from the water of a fire hydrant. Another by a tree branch. You don't have to be moving for glass to break. Safety glass is designed to shatter the way it did and not make sharp shards that can cut you deep. Oh, the damage could have happened two days ago and just got the extra stress to make it shatter.

You hopefully have full glass coverage on your insurance. Some states require it and it is pretty cheap. Really dumb not to have it but some people don't bother.
