  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Beware dark chrome issues

Thanks everyone for the replies. When I get back from vacation, I'll definitely try to peel it off with more effort to see what happens. I feel more comfortable to do so after reading everyone's comments. If anything bad happens I'll let the dealership know.
Yeah, let us know what you find. Just remember that if something bad happens... WARRANTY! ;-)

So now I’m waiting for the dealership to get back to me. They ordered a new chrome piece to replace it under warranty.

What was it? Did you try to peel it off? Was it the tint?

It wouldn't peel off. I think it was the tint. The dealership didn't really know, but when I took it to my auto detailing shop they thought it was the tint / wrap peeling.

Well that blows. Hopefully they get you some new trim.

I don't think this is the same issue from the description, but I am getting two dark chrome pieces replaced, the two back 'hockey sticks'. Not peeling, but a funny mottled effect, almost like it's stained.

Water spots?

I've got a good case of the dark chrome window trim peeling off. I'll have pictures up soon which show it very well.
Haven't addressed it with the dealer as I figure the worse off the better (until I can't look at it anymore).

Oh, sweet. Where did you find that info? are they using a different process or something?
My 2019 G70 is showing these signs on the bottom of the front grill. And although I purchased the appearance package from my dealer, I'm going to wait on the repair in case it gets worse. I purchased the car on September 2018.

I have an early build, here is what the dark chrome issues can look like on the window trim. I'll be asking for these to be replaced next oil change service. I have this on all four of the window trim only, nowhere else.

Yeah, my trim on the front splitter area is all spotted and foggy looking. Was like that from day one. I thought it was residue from the shrink wrap but it's getting worse.

That looks horrible. Mine is an early build also.

Not good for a brand new car. Just wait a couple years... ugh

Over in the G80 section, folks are experiencing premature peeling of the dark film which is overlayed on to the chrome trim for the sport models. I hope we dont experience the same thing, but it looks to be the same design. Something to keep an eye on. I was hoping that the dark chrome was the base color of the material, but its apparently just a tint coat applied over the base chrome.
If you have the dealer do what's called "Chrome delete" I believe most of it is done by wrapping with vinyl. However the front end of the G70 sport is so involved that I don't think it could be wrapped. I'd have to talk to an installer.

Before these spots appear, anyone tried a coat of good carnuba wax to maybe seal out the spots from even starting?

I have been trying to get color code for touch up paint on 5 spoke dark chrome rims with no luck. Waiting for response from Genesis.
