  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My GENESIS dealer installed the most current software for the navigation system in June 2019.

I constantly found and find the on board navigation system giving me wild out of the way directions to get to specific locations. Or worse.

A case in point is I was driving south from Greenville South Carolina on Interstate 85 and wanted to go to my son's home in Atlanta which is off I75.

The on-board navigation system had me exit Interstate 85 at exit 94 and taking local roads instead of going further South on Interstate 85 and simply connecting with Interstate 75.

Had I ignored the on-board navigation system and gotten off I 85 at Interstate 75 at that intersecting exit I would have simply gone about a mile to get a road that would take me to my son's house about 4 minutes later.

The onboard navigation system took me out of the way by nearly 30 minutes.

I knew the correct way to go but I wanted to see what the on-board navigation system would do, and I followed its directions to the 'T'.

It's simply a bad navigation system compared to Android Auto's Google Maps, based on my experiences.

Another case is I was in Vermont recently going from Manchester to a small town east of Brattleboro.

A scenic way to get there would be via Vermont Route 30.

The on-board navigation system never even showed Route 30 as existing and yet Route 30 is one of the oldest Vermont roads and used to be a main north south road in Vermont.

I would hope the powers-that-be at MSSOFT integrate Google Maps with the on-board navigation system map and allow Android Auto to be shown on the projection screen above the steering wheel instead of the on-board navigation system.

We really should find a way to post these kinds of experiences so both Genesis and the MS Soft map company can take learn from customer experiences and take some action to get us to our destinations directly and correctly; not in a roundabout way.

I've had many little similar experiences with the 2019 GENESIS G80 on-board navigation system giving me cockeyed directions.

I did send a similar message to the MS Soft map company through their website.

There is a setting that you can change in the nav system. One is quickest way and the other is shortest way.
Not saying that’s your problem but see if changing the setting helps.

Thanks. Will advise.

85S doesn't connect directly to 75.

Need to traverse at least 15 miles of 285W to connect.

Don't know if the system reflects real time conditions but 285 could have been jammed

My son lives in Buckhead

Said if I took 85 South into Atlanta
(avoid 285) and connected up directly with 75 North...

The exit (251B, I think) is just about three miles from that 75N intersection with 85S.

I've done that trip several times coming south on 85 but I simply wanted to follow the Genesis navigation system to see what it would do.

The issue is the NAV system was taking me the wrong way.

It should have taken me directly from 85 South to 75 North to Hollow Mill Rd. exit. Any other way would be highly inefficient, which it was.

I have other examples I'll be willing to share as my driving with the Nav continues to experiment with the Genesis navigation system vs AA/ GOOGLE maps.

There are setting for fastest and shortest routes so it would not show a scenic route very well.

No nav is perfect. I had a Garmin before a car with built in and yes, some routes were odd as generated by the computer. You seem to have a much more incidence of them than most of us.

It's pretty much because I know various ways to get to different places and the shortest route is not always a straight line.

I've run into similar situation. The computer generated route does not know that there is usually a long wait at a light to make a left, that the line backs up at a particular ramp, and other nuances of a trip.

One a particular trip I make on a regular basis, I travel on road A to the light and make a left for another couple of miles. One day I tried my Garmin just to see and it had me make a lift long before the light. The a right, then a left, then a right, then a left, then a right, then a left. Like climbing stairs. I imagine the computer showed it a few yards less.

Ok I get it. Didn't appreciate you were going inside perimeter. Yes Howell Mill is off of 75

It maybe slightly off topic, it appears that you have G80 sport, if so, do you not have connected services available for three years?
If that is the case, why not utilize the navigation button on the mirror, that uses the Google maps and download the directions to the NAV system?

Now I didn't realize that

I'm going to talk with my son about how to do that.

A big thanks!
