I'm looking to get a set of wheels and winter tires for my horse.

Right now we have two different sizes of tires on the car. The rears are wider than the front, but all four are the same diameter.

The front tires are 245/45vr19. I find them to wide for winter tires.

The spare tire is a 18"TBD. What ever that means.

I would like to install four 18" wheels with a narrower tire size.

I think that the bolt pattern should be 5-114.

I think the off set should be 35 or 45 mm.

I think the tire pressure sensors should be 315 MHz.

If all tis is right, I could:

Install four 18" x 8" wheels with a 225/55r18 winter tires with TPS's.

I would like to know who could confirm that this set up will fit over the brake disks and calipers, their wont be any rubbing anywhere, and that the TPS's will be functional.

Anny help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million

Have you asked your dealer's service department for exactly what will fit?
Not knowing enough, that's where I'd start. Slightly off-topic:
My dealer did offer to store my tires/wheels if I want to go that route. No charge.
One more: The Horse is much better in the snow than the Genesis. I know you're required to have winter wheels, but I'm going with the same 160 LBS of cat litter in the trunk and the Contis. That, and a loaner Veracruz during blizzards, should suffice.
;)

Thanks BacktoHyundaibychoice.

I tried that and they do not know enough to give a strait answer.

The best they can do is offer to install the new wheels and tell me if all is OK.

I shall keep on looking in to this and let you know.

I was under the impression that the R Speck had 19" wheels also.

Maybe somebody has tried?

Will let you know

I just finished trying to install my 2009 18" Genesis wheels on my 2012 Equus.

They don't fit.

There is rubbing against the caliper.

Really to bad because I wanted to install 18" rims instead of the 19".

To bad, I guess I shall have to buy the 19" and live with a low profile winter tire.

My Hyundai dealer told me that they are selling a 18" wheel with he proper offset for the Equus. The width of the wheel is 8" and he should be able to get a center cap with out the "H". They are a nice 10 spoke silver job.

They suggest a Falken Eurowinter HS439 235/50r18

They look good and are not to expensive

Just wondering if I should run some spacers to compensate for the narrower tire and odd looking stance.

i am going through the same decision process. had gensis and the car was horrible in snow. put snow tires on it and was much better.

Equus dealer is telling me to go to tire rack...get BBS rims and Blizak tires ...willl run about 2K. I live in upstate NY so we will get snow...

What was the rim set up and tire for the 18 inch wheels?

genesis5.webpYou can read a reply I did in the tires section. I just put on 235/55/17 blizzaks with Enkei rims (black) from the tire rack. They fit and are balanced perfect. I have no snow experience with them yet. But on dry/wet pavement they run great for snows.

I swapped the Hankooks V12'2 245/40/20 on Verde dimension 53 rims (chrome). This is how I bought the car. The winter tires I think are required for someone like me in Rochester NY. They cost 1200 and I did the install. There was no alignment and after driving at 85mph, I assume none is needed. I did go to 235 width so the overall diameters between my winters and summers stay about the same.

I'm not sure this helps for Eqqus, but it seems your profile says you have a Genesis

Dpearlma mentions his Equus dealer in his post. I suspect he/she just hasnt updated the profile yet.
But thanks for the info anyway!
:)

First thanks for the feedback -Yes i own Equus...i have updated my profile. I am in Rochester NY as well. I leased the car so i am unsure if I want to purchase a whole new set of Rims or just mount a pair of the tires mentioned.

When I called tire rack they were reluctant to sell me tires as they hadnt proofed out what would do best on the Equus. In speaking with the two dealers-One in buffalo they suggested the blizzack -would charge 70 dollars to mount etc. (Where i bought car). In rochester the dealer"not the huge place" recommneded the blizz zack LM 60's

Is it harmful to mount and remount the tires each year...

jake what dealer locally in roch was quoting 18" inch tires and rims with proper off set for winter driving-

So far i have

buffalo dealer-1500 for four blizacks
Buffalo dealer rim and tires 3K

Rochester Dealer tell me to get from tire rack and drop ship them to thier place ...

the tire rack can do this and you can use any installer. If you do not want new rims, just have the tires shipped to wherever (Monroe does this and any number of other installers the tire rack recommends). you bring in the tires and they will swap them or better to have them shipped to the tire dealer. The charges for the tire rack are pre set with the dealers, and as I see it they do not cheat you because if they get complaints the tire rack wields a big stick to yell at them.

I'd try to find a dealer that does load balancing, but for such a new car I do not think it is a big deal either way. If you bend or damage your rims get load balanced.
I got the Blizzak ws70s, a new version of the 60's. I will warn you, not all newer are better. The 60's got great reviews, and I think I took a gamble going to the 70's. The 70's use a new tread compound, but I did this with Nokia and it was a disaster (1/3 the life and only one winter good in the snow). The Nokia I ran year round. This time I will swap summer and winter so I did not worry as much.

It was my first time with tire rack. But once I went custom the tire rack was the only place that really knew their stuff for selecting tires, so they got my business and I am happy. PS. my tires are not recommended fit, but the rep KNEW they were no issue, so he said get them. Now, my summers and winters match outer diameters within a 1/4 inch, and I think that is better than almost one inch that was recommended.

Sorry, I forgot to say...if the tire rack (TR) does not have the car scoped out yet, just follow the standard size and get the Blizzak. TR does not car if they are the same size as original.

HI ....your profile says a genesis....I own a Equus-can you confirm which car you reference

Tire Rack didnt have the back tires in stock. Dealer in buffalo now trying to get tires for equus. Oh the fun . Perellis seems to be the only manufacturer that has the correct diameter and has stopped production for the year.

Argh...it looks like winter tires will be very hard to come by.

I know it's a matter of preference, but I have found no problem using Dunlop Wintersport 3D mounted on stock 19" R-Spec wheels here in Minnesota. I would think they would be better on the Equus than the Genesis. The Dunlops are very highly rated on Tire Rack and recommended by my dealer over any Blizzak. They are quiet and ride and handle well. The question might be sizes for your wheels. I've gone the route of dedicated winter wheel/tire setups on several cars. Won't do it again. Dealer stores my tires at n/c. My wife loves it!

The Michelin X-Ice is also a very good choice and compare favorably to the Nokian offerings. They are very quiet on dry roads.

Yes. The X-Ice would be my first choice because of my experience with my 5 Series. Quiet, amazing traction, sharp handling, and they wear very well. However they don't make a 19", which I am now committed to.

Thanks all for the conitued feedback. At the end of the Day for the Equus i was finally able to get Perelli's snow tires from a dealership in Buffalo NY. The production of this snow tires has ended for the year and inventories are little to non existent. They were able to located 2 sets of tires after alot of work. They are down to 1 now. (Towne Hyundai in Buffalo NY )

1600 Dollars w/tax. They seem to be a very soft compound so i will post updates to wear, handling etc. I did NOT buy rims.

Well, this is a belated reply. I have run the full winter season on my Blizzak tires. They were OK, but our winter was easy this year. It was rare where I could venture out and test the performance. The few times I did I was not impressed but could easily handle the car. In the future I would try different tires. That said, these seem good, handle rain well, hold air very well, and drive nice when there is no snow. Not loud, handle OK, etc. everything is good.....but I do not feel anything is exceptional. However, I have had bad tires before....and good is better than many others. I assume these might last me the life of the car, so I'm not sure ill ever have a comparison test on this car.

Slightly different, but I have the 18" wheels with the Michelin "X-saver" (or whatever came on them for the 2012s. WHile southern Ohio is pretty tame it's the width of the all seasons with the rear wheel drive that has me looking at winter tires. I plan to get 17" wheels and the Michelin X-Ice from tire rack. WIth the tpms, shipped it will be $1500 with some nice wheels ($144 each). I will check out my local Costco before hand to see what they can offer.

If you can get genesis wheels from a 4.6 they will fit. The 4.6 has the same larger caliper as the equus. I took the snows off my genesis 4.6 and they work like a charm
