  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Notice that the car is badged Equus, and the model is the VS460, the tag says "Centennial". It would be a great idea for them to start a new lux brand called Centennial, (like Lexus and Infinity) and have car-lines called Equus and Genesis. Matter of fact, the more I think about it, the more I like it.

As for the ad, they did not show the car until the ad was almost finished. This reminds me of 1989, when both Lexus and Infinity brands first started. Infinity had TV ads that showed the ocean, waves, fields, beautiful places, but did not show the car. Lexus showed the car, exterior and interior. Needless to say, Lexus sales took off, and nobody bought Infinity. Now, 20 years later, Infinity still has never even come close in sales.

My advice to Hyundai is (and I doubt if anyone would ever take my advice);
Start a Car Brand (Centennial??) and show off the car-lines (Equus & Genesis) in your print and TV ads. Don't make the error Infinity did 20 years ago.

Infiniti did not sell for the same reason that Nissans did not sell well during that time frame compared to the competition from Toyota and Honda. I would not blame the problem on Infiniti marketing.

I disagree. I personally wouldn't even look at an Infiniti because the ads turned me off completely. At work we discussed the ads and it was universally agreed that they were counterproductive.

Those first ads were the dumbest ads I ever saw. As for today, I never see Infinity ads. Do they still make Infinity? I see lots of Nissan ads, but no Infinity ads.

That was a long time ago. I am sure the ads were stupid back then, but I doubt they impacted sales. They certainly don't have any impact on recent sales.

Who in their right mind (except a very superficial person) would buy a car (or anything else) because they liked the ads? At best, it peeks ones curiosity to find out more information and maybe do a test drive.

i love that ad, it was a great introduction to the Equus, i agree they should use the Centennial as the luxury brand for Hyundai and have the 2 lines Equus and Genesis. There will be so much excitement generated from this it's going to be sick!!!!!

Why not brand the Equus as a Genesis. Genesis Equus or maybe Genesis EQ and rebrand the Genesis as Genesis 460 and 380 or some such. We already have the Genesis Coupe. I don't think a separate dealership is in the cards, but a sub brand sold at select dealers would be better than what we have now. As it is, the Equus is slated to be sold only at some dealerships.

There is talk that the Equus will come with a larger engine "5.0" and 8-speed tranny. Gen 5 would work. The bad part in all this is Hyundai made the mistake with the coupe on naming it Genesis. I say that because of people speaking of racing a Chevy Cobalt. Those two names should named together in the same sentence:mad: Somehow Hyundai has to figure out a way to take the coupe upscale as the introduce the Equus to these shore for sale

Mark,

The point I was making is that with those ads, nobody knew what the Infinity looked like. They ran the ads for months back in 1989. All they showed was the sea, the fields, trees, BUT NO CAR. Lexus showed their cars, and people bought them in droves.
