Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Well, story update......

I just got off the phone with our service department. My replacement headliner arrived last week and work was to start on my headliner this past Monday. I didn't receive any updates, so I called in today. To my horror, my service manager began to explain to me that they had pulled out ALL of my interior in order to try and replace the cream colored headliner in the Design Edition. The part cost was $1,800. With all the interior out, they were still unable to pull the old headliner out without creasing it. When they unpacked the headliner from the wooden box, there were some gaskets, grommets, and other small items they had to replace or swap from the old headliner. Because the part is so finicky, they do not want to crease the new one when installing it. So, now they are calling a glass guy to come in and remove the front windshield in order to try and install this thing. This tiny little noise has snowballed into a HUGE issue. I have been without my car for a total of 15 business days now with 3 trips. For Indiana, the no-lemon law is 4 attempts to repair the same issue or without the car for 30 business days. If they don't have this car back to 100% when they finish (going to white glove this damn thing!), I will push the issue as much up the ladder as I physically and financial can. 99% of everything else with the car has been the best I've ever owned. It's so disappointing that this one tiny, insignificant defect is affecting my enjoyment of such an otherwise great car.

I hope my unfortunate journey will help many down the road to find a fix for this issue that seams rather large in the community. Please say a prayer for my peace of mind!

I'm with you on that. If it gets too bad, I'll drop the headliner myself to see what the hell is making the noise.

Tdefrees,

Will pray for you man.. Hope things get better.

if they would read the service manual, I suspect it states that the rear window has to be removed to pull out the headliner. The G80 and G90 both do, as does virtually every other car I have ever worked on.

They had to do so when they replaced the pano roof in my G80 a few months back.

Well, figuring I had to speak with the service manager, it wouldn't be the first time he didn't clearly explain it to me. All I know.....is I am glad I leased this car. For some reason, I feel my car has been tainted with now. Definitely will be turning this in at lease end!

Oh man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that, I feel for you. Best of luck, hopefully they will be able to fix it properly or replace the car. 😱😰

That is absolutely nuts that they pulled out your entire interior. As Mr. Clean said, I'd pull down the headliner myself before letting the dealership even attempt that. I know exactly where the sound is coming from. You could pull down the trim on the a-pillar and b-pillar trim and at least access the spot where it is. I feel like if you could look up there you'd have to be able to know what the sound is...

As for my car, it's been at the dealer since last Monday and they've been pretty mum on actually getting back to me and letting me know what's going on. It's rather frustrating.

She's been butchered!:cry: the plastic clear bracket on the headliner is the area of noise. It may be rubbing the roof causing the noise. I was just I'm shock with how my baby was gutted and laid out in a dirty garage that was open to the elements. Ugh...... I wonder if trimming the plastic tabs down would help alleviate the noise. This was my biggest fear.

Which part of the headliner (relative to the layout of the car) are we looking at in that last shot? Is that plastic box-looking thing where the grab-handle hooks up to? Is that what they said was making the noise?

And god I'm so sorry you had to see that...

Its either the adhesive popping or the clear plastic along the roof. The grab handle bolts further back and don't suspect that is the problem.

I'm still throwing my money on adhesive, especially how its laid out in those pictures. The only reason I mention the grab handle is because (in my car anyway), the sound seems to be localized right on the little ridge in the headliner right in front of the grab handle.

This thread will be the definitive exposition of this issue. And Genesis will certainly know the full picture and cannot claim unawareness. (IF the shop enters the repair in the warranty repair digital window as they should!)

What's the large hole in the upper right of the headliner? I assume this is the front passenger side we're looking at.

Did they road test the car with the headliner removed to see if the noise is gone with the headliner out? They really should....to be sure it's not potentially the sunroof.

My dealer, on the Stinger, dropped the headliner and "removed major components and found the noises stopped when test driving with the headliner removed, but that was when it was much cooler and the car would typically stop making noise when the temps were close to freezing. I suspect with timing they test drove the car in the morning when it was cold and thought the issue was fixed when the headliner was removed.

That looks to be the mount for the sun visor.

I believe the center hole is the sun visor mount (which looks like its being held on by the aforementioned adhesive). I was talking about the one to the top right of that.

This would be easier if I had my own car to go look at.

Edit: Upon closer inspection, that seems to be where the headliner folds up and meets the A-pillar trim, its just not visible with the headliner up.
