  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The other day I drove a brand new 3 series BMW and it took me forever to figure out how to operate the push button start. Onless you pay for that particular option you must insert the key into the slot on the dash and then push the button. Why even have the push button start if can't keep the key in your pocket/purse as with the Genesis.

What other options does the Genesis with Tech package have that you pay extra in other luxury brands?

To be fair, BMW is the only brand that I know of trying to charge 500$ to 1000$ for "comfort access"

Another one I loved, 350$ for rear air bags, charging for a safety feature......

heated seats are part of a chargeable "cold weather package"

When I shopped, BMW was the worst at this feature cost add on...

So that is how they "make up" the dollars for the free maintenance they advertise when you buy their cars! ;)

I thought it was the most stupid thing I ever saw. It is easier to do it the old fashion way by sticking the key into the ignition than the silliness that BMW wants you to do or pay dearly for the privilege to keep the key in your pocket.

Takes the "key-less" out of key-less, push button start! Interesting that it looks like they use a different type of proximity function for their vehicles. Not in your pocket, but actually in a slot. Sounds like a hassle IMO.

VW offers push button start but you need to insert the fob into the slot and then push it to start the engine. That is somewhat better than the BMW, in the bimmer you have to insert the fob in one place and then move your hand over to push a different button. The strategy is to make you feel silly doing this when test drive their cars and you want to spend the extra money to buy the option to avoid the hassle.

I use my fob holder everytime I get in the car. I like that fact that it sets my steering wheel and seat back to the last position.

Crupp, can you please explain?
I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say here.

Thanks

I think Crupp is trying to say that the slot is used, which sets the seat before the car is started. As opposed to leaving the fob in your pocket and the seat setting itself when the engine is started. However, I could be wrong.

Well...I still don't understand.
I moved my seating position...
I put my key fob in and nothing happened.
I started the car...still nothing.
I had to press the memory 1 button for the seat to go to my position.

I also tried:
Put key fob in
Adjusted the seat and pressed the memory then the 1 button to store it.
Removed the key fob
Moved the seat around
Entered the key fob
Nothing...seat never moved.
Had to press the 1 button.

Crupp, I'm really curious...thanks

If you put your FOB in before you start the car the steering wheel and seat will go back to the position before you shut the car off. No need to use the memory buttons unless you changed the position or someone else drove the car and changed the seat position

I'm pretty sure my Genesis does that regardless whether the fab is in the slot or not.

I have my Genesis programed to go all the way out and steering wheel all the way in so I have plenty of room getting in and out. When I push start button the seats will go the the setting it was in the last time I drove it.

This works as long I don't put in to drive or reverse to quickly otherwise this stops immediately when put into gear.

True. With the FOB in the holder you don't have to hit the start button. The FOB initiates the process with out hitting the start button.

That's it...mine doesn't move cause I shut-off both off those features. (Seat back and steering wheel up when car is shut off.

That explains it...thanks

I have my steering wheel and seat set to do the same thing. Study aid, make sure you these features turned on. I believe they are under car settings in the main menu.

crupp,

Thanks but I turned them off cause I don't care for those features + it's probably best to not have these motorized parts come on every time I get in and out of my car...preventive maintenance if you wish.

Good point. The motor in my drivers seat could problaby use a break!!

It sounds like you're using the seat and wheel easy access options that retract the seat and wheel when the engine is shut off so you can get out of the car as easily as a passenger. I think it returns to the last position by itself when the engine is started again, fob in holder or not.

I like the easy access options but I worry whether it might put too much wear on the seat and steering column motors over the long run.

EDIT: Oh, I see, you're saying that by using the fob holder, it will return the seat and wheel to last position even before hitting the start button.

EDIT EDIT: Sigh, for some reason, I didn't see that all of this was discussed earlier. I just refreshed my browser and realized that I'm like one of those people who respond to something months after it was asked and answered. I blame my web browser ;)
