If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Happy owner of 2019 G70 3.3L V6 with sunroof. Love it.

However, noticed about a month ago an impression/dent in the roof behind the moonroof. Thought maybe someone punched it or stepped on it (though had no reason to expect that to be the reason other than the dent was about that size).

Went out today to look at the spot as was sending the car to get serviced and now see there are 2-3 more similar depressions in the roof behind the moonroof.

I’ve seen on other forums mention of potentially the frame transmitting any shocks from potholes or curbs (though I’ve been very careful to avoid the latter while the former cannot always be avoided) into the roof to cause the depressions, particularly on cars with sunroofs, but I’ve never seen it before in any other car I’ve ever driven.

Has anyone else had this issue? I drive the car to have fun but don’t think I’m super aggressive and certainly make a point of not running into things, as I love the low profile rims and am careful not to destroy them.

Thanks

This time of year I had to park in a different spot. Acorns can dent hoods, trunks, roofs. Under a tree?

Falling debris from where you park, or a fat ass cat jumping down onto your roof.

I have to put a scat mat on my cars because of the neighborhood cats jumping off the walls and onto my cars.

a scat mat is a battery operated mat that give the animals a mild shock when they step on it. Amazon has one specifically for vehicles that won't scratch the paint.

Appreciate the replies but it goes from garage to garage, so cats or falling debris are not an option.

Pics?

Now I want one. Not that I have any problem cats, but just because it would be funny. Haha.

I can see the paint is cracking along the dent as well, at least that is what it appears to me in the image

doesn't hurt them, but keeps them off the cars.

I love cats, have owned 6 in my life, currently have 1 and 2 dogs. but I don't want them sleeping on my cars, the one that was a real issue in my neighborhood tore the cover on my hotrod with its claws and puked a hairball all over the cover several times.

now it stays away, but it took several shocks before it learned. sat and watched it on the security camera for 10 minutes try and lay on the roof (scat mat under the cover) and it was stubborn as hell even getting shocked.

Man the trees around my apartment are merciless with acorns. We moved in last year and I remember one day - I think it was in November - where the acorns were just raining down to a symphony of loud clanking as they hit all the parked cars.

The big deal is to repair those dents on the roof. For doing so they have to remove the headliner costing you about three times more compared to a dent removal in any other part of the car.

Have you ever tried Dent Wizards? I assume that's a national chain. They performed a few miracles on my cars in the past. All done on the outside. This kind of dent is probably perfect for them.
If there are a lot of them, it could get pricey. The last time I checked, they charge $50 per dent, which in cases of just one or two is a great price.

I was at a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer with a previous vehicle and the entirety of the service entry area was filled with new vehicles and each had a man with some equipment working on and over each car. The answer was that a hail storm had damaged many new cars and the dealer had contracted with several dent doctor businesses to handle all at once. Maximum man hours on the job. The service specialist said they could do amazing things without cutting, perhaps a few small holes drilled, rarely. Suction, unique tools and knowledge and experience.

I've used a local dent remover guy. He has made miracles in my cars too but sometimes he needs to work thru the back of the panel. He has an "special price" for roof dents. I think is $200 more for headliner removal.

Thanks all for your thoughts. I’ve had hail before; this is not it (no depressions anywhere else on the vehicle and these are not spot dents like you get from something hard landing on the roof, but much more gradual depressions that you can really only see on the roofline in the way the light reflects off the roof).

got someone mad at you? maybe an ex or neighbor is messing with you? or maybe you have kids? they can damage anything just by looking at it

hey you ever figure this one out? very curious at to the cause

Genesis took photos and video and were going to consider it. They think it’s really odd too. Clearly not falling objects that caused it; much more subtle and gradual depression to the surface than denting.
The paint is not cracking at all; the integrity of the paint and clear coat hasn’t been compromised; it’s just an annoying deformity that shouldn’t be there.
I’ll let you know when I hear back from them.

Hey my friend,
I am having a very similar problem as you, except my dent is in my trunk.
When I took ownership of my car, it was late at night and the car was dirty.
The next day, they could not get me a loaner, so I washed the car myself.
I saw something reflect in the light on my trunk, but I was moving and I could not duplicate the angle.
A few days later, in my garage with the light from my garage door opener, I saw something that looked odd. I ran my fingers over it and I clearly felt a dent.
There are zero scratches. There are 0 defects to the paint, yet there is clearly a dent there. When my car is perfectly clean, I can see it automatically. Once a layer of dirt comes over it, it is much harder to notice.
Several weeks later, the service agent at Genesis noticed it too. He did a full walk around the car before I left him the keys, and he went back to the spot twice and asked if I knew I had a dent there. I told him that it was there the day I got the car, but since I did not report it right away, he did not think Genesis would do anything about it.
When I have my oil changed soon, I have it on my list of things to talk about and see what can be done.

I have concluded that something else caused the dent. In other words, it is possible vehicle vibrations caused it, or a weakness in the frame under the trunk lid caused it to sag.

I will keep you posted.
