I dont want to talk about things other than our beloved Gennys, I wanted to ask superking ,what would you recommend to me ,entry level . Cd/DVD ripper? If that is the right term to use. Thanks

That's easy, Kraig. There are many external burners still available these days. Personally, I was particular to Pioneer for a long time (highest-rated years ago) but I replaced with an ASUS that has worked flawlessly for the past ~4 years.

I'd recommend their entry-level and budget-pick, the LG looks very good and is superbly reasonable at $25. It's USB 2.0 (not 3.0) so it will be slower in the transfer speed but won't matter for the rip - personally, I choose to rip at medium speeds (less than max-rated) as I've had fewer errors occur that way. But that's my personal experience, you may find they work better in 2019 at higher speeds.

The Pioneer and ASUS would be top choices imo yet will put you at $100+.

No problem. Good music is good music... Well, maybe not today's music... lol... I must be getting old because I equate today's music to being noise...

When I first decided to give DVDA a try, I was awe struck. I've never heard such clarity in my life and going back to stereo makes everything sound flat. To give some idea of how much audio data is in the DVD, a typical track ripped from a CD is about 50mb uncompressed. When I ripped a DVD track, some of the songs are 600mb! Think of stereo as having the band in front of you and 5.1 as you being in the middle of the band. It's a shame the format is dead and optical drives are going away...

Don't forget you can also play the disc in your home theater if you have a 5.1 setup there as well.

I was impressed with the sound that the DVD-A provides, yet I found myself toggling the Surround Sound on/off (on by default) to see what effects were being created by the surround algorithm. IMO, there were some that sounded better with it off (again, just my opinion). Of course, some were noticeably better due to the original source material, but overall I was impressed by a large amount of what I heard.

Again, appreciate you creating this compilation and allowing us to enjoy great sound in our Gennies.

If anyone would like to experience 5.1 in their car, shoot me a PM. I can setup a sampler ISO that you can burn to a DVD. It should play in the Ultimate, not sure about other trims.

No problem. I tend to have the surround sound toggle off and just let the source material play as intended and just tune the EQ to my own liking. The factory surround sound doesn't do it for me, it just adds reverb to make the sound more full but it's still fake surround sound. I actually never tried it on a 5.1 source, just stereo like MP3s.

With the 5.1, I do adjust the fade slightly to the rear so the surround channels are slightly louder.

I concur, Super. I'm not a fan of any added interpolation with the exception of maybe some tonal adjustment as you mentioned.

I failed to say earlier, as you noted yourself, that the bass seemed to surely come alive with this disc and no sub upgrade (yet lol). And surprised by the kick of the stock driver but can just imagine what a serious sub might add...

Also a question, so you're saying the Genesis will play DVDAs?
I've been playing FLACs off my phone through AA since I've had the car and the sound is incredible (either with Media Monkey or VLC). There's a Dark Side of the Moon 5.1 track I found online but alas, I no longer have a dvd burner to take advantage of it.
