  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sport model tire rotation

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but just curious and figured better than starting a new one. I got my oil changed for the first time today. They replaced cabin air filter but said there was no reason to rotate tires. Is this true? Thought manual said to do it. Will rotating them even do anything?

You cannot rotate...they are staggered.

Right to left ?
Rubber is directional. So you would have to unmount and remount the rubber going left<-->right. Is all that worth the cost? Probably not. Looking at my tires...they are all worn evenly which is pretty nice.

Yeah I realize they're staggered. I explained that to the service attendant. I thought left to right though for uneven wear. Guess that doesn't matter then. Appreciate it!

Not sure there is a lot of value in it but the 2020's can be rotated side to side since they are using All-Season tires now, right?

^ not sure what tire they’re using. Some high end all seasonal tires are directional as well.

The window sticker just says Michellin All Season. I don't think their's are directional but haven't looked at the details since we don't know which tire.

100% depends on the tire, the G80 Sport tires are not Directional, they can be moved side to side and the manual states this should be done, as does the Conti Tire warranty,

Not rotating the tires and having proof of doing so and Conti will deny any warranty claim in the event of a blowout, their paperwork clearly states this. as do most tire warranties.

Directional and/or Staggered setups will have a reduced warranty because they can't be rotated, and again the tire company paperwork will clearly state this.

This is regarding the G70’s Michelin PS4

^ Aren't those asymmetric and not directional? Maybe I'm thinking about the Sport 4s.

Not all rubber is directional. If these are OEM I seriously doubt these are directional. Look yours up.

The easiest and most certain way to tell if a tire is directional is to examine the sidewall, and see if there is a "ROTATION" indication. I do not believe these tires have such an indication.

Ok...did research and went and looked at my car...they are not directional. Could have sworn somebody said they were.

They are asymmetrical though.

So you can swap left <—> right.

This is the Michelin Pilot Sport 4.

So they probably should have switched them out then, right? Ugh.

Depends on wear...and if uneven.

They did not do it to mine at 6k...and I agreed. Guy showed me, etc.

Neither did they in mine during maintenance, tread wear was minimal.

You don't happen to have the P/N for the cabin air filter they used, do you?

I'm seeing 97133-D2500, but just want to be sure.

Anyone have any opinions about swapping tires and having the tire "rotate" the opposite way it was before? So by swapping L/R your tire, that was used to rotating one way with the steel/nylon belts now is stressing the opposite way somewhat?

I was just thinking about this. And then I thought... The PS4's will be toast in 20k anyways so who cares... lol

Right. You at least have a chance to even the wear. If you don’t, Any uneven wear, even if you can see it immediately will only get worse. I have noticed a lot of dealer don’t like to rotate right to left and will give you a lot of bologna reason why even though the manual say to do so. When you go for an oil change do you look at the oil and say ya that oil looks clean, I’ll just skip it?
