  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

We bought a used 2015 with 36K. We've had it since 2018 and now has 44k on it. It shut off three times while driving recently, . So we towed it to the dealership and they are telling us they can't find any problems? We LOVE this car but having regrets about buying it now after reading about this unique problem. Any suggestions with dealing with the dealership we purchased it from?

After it shuts down does it restart soon after? Did you ask if there were any codes?

I understand your frustration with the situation. You may even want to get a code reader to check right away. If everything is working at the dealer it is difficult to diagnose. Perhaps someone here had a similar problem and can help.

Huge shot in the dark: crankshaft position sensor?

The first two times it happen, we were traveling about 40 mph when the engine shut down... and we pulled to over to the shoulder. After a few initial attempts to start the car...we just sat on the side of the road and waited for about 10 minutes before it started up and we could drivr it home.
I took to a local mechanic and he put it on his computer and said he couldn't find any problems. I drove it home and drove it again about an hour later and it died in reverse before getting out of the driveway.

maybe the fuel pump? Throwing ideas out there

What you're describing may be the low pressure fuel pump, when they fail you get a random no code engine stall. There isn't anything else that will get an engine stall without a code. In fact, there probably is a code or history code set and the dealer just missed it. (quite a few "Hyundai" dealer techs won't plug in the actual Hyundai scan tool)

They had one certified Genesis mechanic there. He looking like a freshman in college. They are keeping the car over night. We live two hours from the dealership so we had to leave. We are the 2nd owner and I wonder now if this happened to the first owner and he/she traded it in? This issue was never bought up when we brought it... of course..UUGGHH! I'm feeling a little ripped off now!

If they say they can't get any codes, ask them if they actually plugged in GDS Mobile or if they used an OBD-II scan tool.

Thank you! That sounds reasonable... I'm not a mechanic but I will suggest that tomorrow when I call for an update.

I had similar symptoms in my previous 07 Audi A6 V8. Floored it on the hwy and then it stalled. Restarted it and drove back home. It almost stalled on the parking lot when got back home. Unplugged and plugged back in the battery and went to the grocery store. It would not start any more so I couldn't drive it back home. Battery light was one of the lights on the dash. Picked up new battery, started it and stalled after about 30 seconds. Towed it to the mechanic and it turned out to be high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay. I red the codes any none of them were related to the fuel system. You never know.

And this is supposed to be our reliable vehicle. I love this car... it's like a spaceship... but with all the technology even the dealership doesn't know what's wrong with it. But I have more hope reading the comments on this thread. Thank you!

I totally agree with you. I am traveling for work and my wife called me yesterday saying that the car does not start. Turns out it is the bad battery(original). Things like that happen. Once they figure it out and fix it, you will for sure be able to enjoy it for a long time.

How were you ripped off? By the first owner? If I had that problem and traded the car, I'd not mention it either. The dealer may have never seen it, especially the miles you were able to put on it with no shutdown.

Intermittent problems are extremely difficult to find. Just as if you had a light bulb burn out. You take it to the hardware store to find what went wrong, he put it in and it lights. How do you "fix" that?

Yes, it sucks to be you right now. The dealer makes money when he fixes things so he wants to find it as much as you do. Hopefully they have a good tech that can find it. Good luck.

The Hyundai mechanic called and said that they are replacing the ECU. He didn't say that was the problem but that's where they are starting.

good start could be it

This is an issue with lots of cars/trucks with PUSH start. This has happened to me and a buddy of mine with a BMW 740i. Same exact symptoms. It is like the push start disengaged as if a key was removed while driving and then put back in. KNOCK on wood it has been a year or so only driving less than 40 mph. THANK GOD.

has same issue for 2 months dealer trips 3 times no codes and couldn't duplicate the stalling! finally the engine light stayed on it was the crank shaft sensor which causes stalls

We just picked up our car today. The repair was delayed because of the Corona Virus. The dealership replaced the electronic control unit (ECU). They didn't say it it was the problem but started with this fix first. They re-synchronize the car, drove the car 30 minutes and called and said it was good to go.
We drove 2 hours from Flagstaff to Page without incident this afternoon.

If u look up faulty crank shaft sensors it causes all the problems we been having I dont know why the codes don’t show up right away
