  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Reviews

Hurray!

An in-depth field test w/ subs (seems like Motorgraph has launched a separate channel for the int'l audience).

Includes the moose test at varying speeds and a suspension test (over speed bumps) at varying speeds and w/ the suspension-adjusting camera covered.

Kim, a race car driver, has taken over the lead reviewer role from the previous guy.

Waiting on tests of the 2.5

And also the 3.5, lol. It will be interesting since the US market can't do the testing for awhile I don't think. I feel badly for Genesis trying to roll out their premium cars adn trying to gain a bit of a foothold in this market. Timing is really bad for obvious reasons. I do feel very badly for them. .... as well as the rest of the world, but this is a car thread, lol.

^ Seems like deja vue.

The original Genesis sedan hit the market during the height of the Great Recession.

Obviously not a great time for purchasing luxury vehicles.

The only positive side to this is that it may make buyers more open to purchasing a lower-priced alternative (tho, for leasing, a diff. equation as BMW and MB can generally offer more attractive lease terms), but Genesis will have to be aggressive in discounting (despite being new models) as all the competition will be doing so.

Can see the smaller/weaker Genesis dealerships closing (something that Genesis corp. wouldn't shed too much tears over).

didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. That really is bad luck to say the least. If they lose dealers, I bet the one that's close to me would be one of them. Price does matter. It matters even more during these tough times.

What is the name? Is the one close to you a dealer that delivers superior service and is a pleasure to deal with?

Never said they were a pleasure to deal with. Honestly, I love the sales guy and the manager, but when I tried to place a preorder, they never got in touch. I hate their physical dealership as it's not handicap easy by any means and they allow their staff to park cars in the handicap spots. It's Meriden, CT. Was told the dealer in New London was excellent by a couple of folks who go there.

Mcc, maybe I read your tone wrong (so easy to do online) , but it seems like a sarcastic question by you since you live in LA and don't really care about the local dealer network up here. Hope I read that wrong, but that's the honest answer.

I did not mean to be sarcastic. Sorry it came off that way, I apologize.

With so many folks complaining about how rotten their dealers are, I was wondering if your dealer was better off closed and maybe make room for a better one to open nearby. Sounds like you are ok with them. Somehow the network needs to upgrade and that can only happen if the existing bad ones get better or close.

Think a couple have already closed their doors (before the pandemic hit).

They should have just taken the buy-out from Hyundai/Genesis.

I don’t remember seeing this review AsianPetroHead reviews the the GV80 interior at night.
Looks great to high tech junkies. 👍

Thanks. Saw that the other day. He's very good and a fun watch. I'm bummed that he lost the first part of his taping. I wanted to know about the sound system. I also can't wait until someone can get their hands on the 2.5 as well as the 3.5 and share their thoughts on both. I also am staring to fall for the G80, lol. It's so much cheaper and seems to have better leather and wood trim. It's really a stunner inside, but I didn't see a Navy/Dune color inside, lol.

I like most everything about the GV80 except the stuck on screen. I hate stuck on screens. I love the G90 and it's dash integrated screen.

Are there any reviews/comments about the “convenient or inconvenient distance the touchscreen is from the driver? Seems it might be convenient for somebody 6’4”? I don’t see how anybody of average height...me for example can easily reach the right half of the 14.5” screen? I welcome your thoughts/comments.

I remember reading that it really isn't practical for the driver to use it as a touch screen as far as reaching the entire screen is concerned. There are multiple ways to input/choose options so that is probably not a big deal. I have a touch screen on mine and in a year and a half probably used touch for input a handful of times. It is much for convenient to use voice and the controller.

Yes, everyone who's reviewed it has mentioned that it's not realistic for the driver to use it as a touch screen. I have one now and love it. Easy to use. I too wanted a large touchscreen that was integrated into the dash. The Benz GLE has a LONG one built in, however I personally don't love the integration as much as others, but at these sizes, I'm not sure what you can do about it. I do like the look of the GV80's considering it's elevated on top.

I have rarely needed to touch the screen in my G90 searching for something. Most of the times you may need to enter info is when searching for an address or POI and the those Google Voice button on the rear view mirror is all you need to press.
The dial and Genesis' infotainment are very easy to use.
I wouldn't worry about reaching out the touch screen

Having MS, it makes is more difficult for me to use those rotary knobs for some reason. I love the touch screen. I try to use voice on my Jag, but their's sucks big time and doesn't work most of the time. Then there is the Audi, which also doesn't work that great on voice commands for some reason (wife has the latest Q5 with the all digital platform and thought it would be better than her last one. It's only a bit better. I can't wait for a car to just fully understand basic stuff and find it, lol.

I know there's problems with the Coronavirus etc, but it is just about May and we have not had a single review or test drive of the GV80 with 3.5 engine. It just seems unusual that we have not seen anything from Motor Trend or any auto site around the world. ( Yes Korea but not real test drives). Maybe someone can recommend a test site that I have missed.

Someone would have posted it in this thread by now if there were one. Back when the GV80 was unveiled for test drives, it was only available in diesel. The 3.5 V6 came about a month later. Western journalists obviously can't go test it in Korea right now because of the virus, and it'll be at least a couple more months before it makes its way onto U.S. or even Australian lots. Under normal circumstances we would also be seeing first drives of the new G80 sedan at this time too from western journalists. We'll have to be patient.

Totally sucks as so many of us want to at least know the specs, ie 0-60 and back to 0, etc... I thought I heard they were tightening up the suspension for the NA markets. It will be interesting to see how long it will take to get to the US/Canada markets.
