If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I am about to purchase a 3.8 Genesis Sedan with Tech Package and I am getting the dealer to put a set of the 19" Coupe wheels on my car. What size should the tires be? I know the 18" Sedan tires are 235 50 18...Thanks in advance!

Have a look at the "Replacing Stock rims and tires" thread...

Web sites like tirerack.com and Bigwheels.net are set up so that you can determine fitment. Not only can you determine fitment for the wheels they have, but you can get worst-case wheel diameters, offsets, and widths. Once you determine those values, you can go to many other sites and plug in those values directly into their search engines. In addition to fitment, you'll have to check for overall wheel diameter so as to keep your odometer within tolerance. There are calculators for that at http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp. I suspect that for a 19" rim, you'll end up with a PXXX/40R19 or PXXX/45R19 tire if you want an overall wheel diameter that closely matches the original 18" rims with P225/50R18 Dunlops. Have a look at the "Replacing Stock rims and tires" thread... BTW, I settled on purchasing a set of 19"x8.0" TSW Estoril chrome wheels with low profile P245/40YR19 Falken FK42 tires from Bigwheels.net.

There is a simple tire calculator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I would be careful going to wide from the stock tires without careful investigation of clearance to the towers. 235/45x19's are pretty close to the stock 235/50x18's.

And also don't forget to make an appointment with your dentist to check for any loose fillings, etc., prior to taking delivery...:)

Only if you don't understand that you're buying a sports sedan from the get go, not a Buick.

I was thinking the same thing, but I wasn't sure if he meant this due to upgrading the wheel size.......

OK did a little research. The stock 18s on the Sedan are 39 offset and the 19" coupe wheels are 35 offset. Will they fit on the sedan? From what I understand all four on the coupe are 19x8.

Double check fitment. But the 3.8L Coupe wheels are a staggered fitment. The fronts are smaller than the rears.

I have a 4.6L, and I haven't checked the 3.8L to see if you have a different brake caliper. After, we attempted to fit the 3.8L front wheels on the genesis, we found that the fronts will not clear the brake caliper. There is a spacer required to do so up front, but the rears will clear. I'll take photos and post it up later.

In the last picture you can see the spacer used to clear the calipers.

motorsportsauthority, Thanks for the great info. So in summary, just to clarify, if I buy 4 Coupe Rear wheels I should be fine with the offset and clearing the calipers?

Also are those the 19" coupe wheels or 18"?

I haven't tried that. If I have time in the shop today, I'll take the wheels off and make the attempt. Those are the 19" wheels.

OK Cool. I was told that the front and back wheels were both 19x8 with 35 offset however the tires were different 225-40-19 and 245-40-19

According to my reference guide, the coupe has 19x8 and 19x8.5 wheels. the tire sizes the provided you are correct. The car's in the paint booth, so I'll let you know once I get a better look at them when I get it out tomorrow.

probably not the best pic, but here's a farther pic so that you can see the whole car.

I'm diggin' the coupe wheels:D Maybe I'll pick up a set in the future. LOVE IT! IMO 19's are perfect.

So did the rear coupe wheels clear everything with ease on the sedan? Did you have to do anything special for proper fitment on any of the wheels? It looks great. I too am getting the black gennie with black interior. I really like the look of the coupe wheels on the sedan.

The rear wheels cleared the rear just fine. I did not get the opportunity to try the fitment on the front. However, since both the front and rear wheels have a +35 offset (per my research), then I highly doubt that the rear 19x8.5" wheels will fit up front. I don't see the "spokes" swinging towards the outside of the wheel early enough to clear the calipers. (If that makes sense.)

Just to let everyone know, my front is 20x9 +29 and it fits just fine. I still have plenty of clearance. So 19x8.5 +35 is very mild in comparison

It seems like a mistake getting wider wheels in the back. For one thing, you can't rotate the tires as they wear.
