  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2021 Kia K5 vs 2021 G70

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I was going to create this thread, but I knew if I didn't, it would get created anyway :-). That K5 is gorgeous...

After all, let's be honest, Genesis hasn't really lived up to the promises it made for the majority of us. We obviously trust the parent company and aren't brand snobs. The K5 looks like a better-deal and maybe a slightly better package than the new G70. Plus, we know that the K5 will sell like hotcakes so market support will be STRONG.

Edit: only flaw I potentially see is missing cooled seats.

Does indeed look good. We should’ve gotten that panoramic sunroof haha

Hyundai has not yet demonstrated the ability to correctly build a panoramic sunroof.

Yeah, that's a good looking car. It's interesting to me that Hyundai/Kia are allowing their lower brand vehicles to leapfrog their premium vehicles in some cases. I mean as a consumer, if they want to give me a better choice for less money, well... thanks. I'll move to something like the K5 and pay much less.. but then again, maybe the next G70 will be amazing.

Fun to watch

No doubt the new K5 looks good, but it looks good for a $20-$30,000 car. The new G70 more than likely will have better and more tech than the Kia and like someone said prior in this thread, the K5 is FWD vs Rwd and AWD for the Genesis. I know I wouldn’t pay over $50,000 if the new G70 exterior looked like that.

Guess I was lucky. Hopefully my current Santa Fe stays good.
Yeah there's quite a lot of data there. The reason the panoramic sunroof isn't in the G90 is because of all the issues that the DH sedan owners experienced. The panoramic sunroof is manufactured by a supplier and delivered installed in Hyundai vehicles as a unit.

In any case:
  • I'm glad yours has been problem free!
  • Hyundai isn't the only one with Panoramic roof problems (just google Mercedes Panoramic Sunroof problems)
  • They truly are awesome in terms of the airy feeling they contribute; they open up the entire interior. I never had anyone get into my sedan who didn't compliment how nice it was
  • Mine was super quiet for the first 10,000 miles
  • Basically you have to keep the seals lubed
  • Even with that, there was a rattle that some folks figured out how to fix that I never got fixed
  • Some folks had theirs replaced multiple times

The next year G70 will have the 10.25 infotainment screen too, so now it's all about how fast you want to go 0-60 in deciding if you want the K5 or the G70, and K5 will be FWD only for now.

The link clearly states that AWD is available.

Any pointers about how and where to lube? I haven't had the sunroof rattle yet; but I only passed 6k miles. Definitely want to stay ahead in terms of preventative maintenance.

Not for the GT trim which is the one with 290 hp and DCT.
Did you expect us to read your mind about which model you wanted?
