  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

2020, 635 miles, sunroof rattle 😭
I really don’t want to take it because it’ll never be put back together as before. Opinions?

It required about 3000-4000 miles for my rattle to appear. It was mild but noticeable with sunshade open, sunroof closed and no music. I have the light gray interior which gives an airy feel so I keep the shade drawn closed. This tamps the sound somewhat. I used the 3M tape on the "foot" as MrCleean suggested and it helped a bit. I have come to accept that with shade closed and using music, which I nearly always do, that the sound is diminished sufficiently that I will live with it. Someone riding with me is unlikely to notice it under those conditions. I will certainly not ask the dealer to address it. That is my "solution".

Try this.

That is what you want. Putting it back the same way would rattle. You want ti done better than before.

Oddly (and luckily) enough the popping/crackling noise my G70 was making from around the sunroof and headliner last summer whenever the temps got up to about 80 or more hasn't occurred yet this summer. Fingers crossed. However I do still have some sort of rattle that seems to be coming from the trunk or under the rear of the car any time I hit even a small bump in the road. Aaaargh!

I've used variety of tapes, neoprene rolls, etc to try to tackle this issue. It's extremely annoying especially in Georgia heat.
So far... no lasting solutions. Mentioned it to local dealer today (I don't usually go to this location) and never heard of this issue.
I see some of you took it to the dealer but has anyone seen any permanent fixes to this?

Brought my 2019 G70 Sport just shy of 7k miles to the dealer on Monday for oil change and to check out the sunroof because I was having the rattling issue mentioned here. They just told me yesterday that they have a new sunroof being ordered because they weren't able to fix the rattle in the shop.

At least they gave me a 2.0t loaner - however I have to say...the turbo lag on the 2.0 is pretty bad in comparison to the 3.3t.

Let us know how the replacement goes and if it solved the issue? Hopefully the complete disassembly of the interior and removal of the windshield goes smoothly and the dealer does not create new issues.

Fingers crossed. See you're in DFW as well - The dealer is Genesis of Dallas for reference. Will post an update when it's complete. Really hope it doesn't result in more issues....

Thanks for the info. That is my purchasing dealing and if I must have warranty work would be who I use.

So I got some good news today - they told me that they were able to get some kit to adjust the brackets and lubricate the tracks and glass and it fixed the noise. They were able to avoid a full replacement and I was able to get the car back today. Didn't hear any noise on the drive back home so here's hoping it stays that way.

All in all it was a good experience and they treated me well and kept me informed throughout the process.

Nice.. Keep us updated. My foam tape has been keeping mine quiet for now but I would like a permanent fix.

Interesting. Wonder what brackets are adjustable? My 2020 only has 3500 miles but when new from the factory the rubber sunroof seals, tracks, a number of items associated with the sunroof movement were lubed up pretty good. Wonder as the lube ages or the car goes thru heat soaks if the factory lube becomes less effective? Some have sworn there is something between the roof and headliner that when hot creates the squeak or rubbing noise and adjusting a bracket and adding lube would not really help that kind of issue.

Yeah I am skeptical as well but I guess we'll see how it goes. If the noise comes back, I'll let you know. When I was talking to the service manager he mentioned that they've only had to replace one sunroof so far and he mentioned how much of an involved process it is. Really hoping that this isn't just some quick fix to get the car out the door and I have the same problem months down the road.

As @ryan_g (I think) said, Hyundai/Genesis Huntington Beach has tech's that know how to fix it. I'd suggest having your local dealers call them if they can't fix it

Took mine in the other day and the tech (Tri) knew exactly what to do. Turned out to just be an adjustment issue, but I know this much: I can now actually open the sunroof shade without being constantly annoyed by every motion

Yes! Tri was the tech who helped me, he’s awesome!

I had a few long conversations with Tri and the service manager Peter (who also drives a 3.3t G70). They know their stuff and went above and beyond for me with getting replacement parts covered under warranty. It was refreshing to finally speak to people working for the brand who actually understood the finer details of the car!

My sunroof rattle reappeared. The sticky foam tape (mrcleean, thank you) had been mooshed out of place. I removed it and retaped the "foot" rest area. I also put a smaller piece at 90º across the spot for a double coverage. Improved. I can keep doing this for a long time. I still have 98 feet of foam tape.

I got my car about 2 months ago and it's really annoying (something is wrong with the clip i think). I went to the service centre and because I'm the first one, they don't know what to do.
t's an issue in korea and the people who were in charge of sunroof/headliner would come and fix it for them but I don't know what they will do in here.

I doubt they will do that, and according to people who had this problem it would make the noise again and again (unless they change the whole headliner).
I'm just scared because the mechanic said he had never done this type of fixing ( i hope it doesnt get worse).
anyways I'll see how it goes and tell you guys the results!

I have a raffle in my G70 sunroof when the car sits in the sun for 1/2 hr or so. Dealer cannot fix it and i have to wait a month and a half for a new roof. Annoying? Absolutely!!
Would I recommend a Genesis? Not when
I have to wait so long for a repair. Oh, I
forgot to mention this is the 3 time the
dealer has tried to fix the noise.

Hey folks, I just bought my 2019 G70 Elite 3.3t a few days ago, used and certified from a Hyundai/Genesis dealer with 14k miles on the clock. I too suffer from sunroof clunk. First, I love the car, handles great!!, is fast, and is really stuffed with tech and is just a beautiful car. The clunk is not great, but for the price I got the car, it doesn't bother me very much. The badly juddering brakes and out of balance tires are far more of a concern. But I have high hopes that I'll be able to get the sunroof adjusted as per Gen of huntington beach/TSB kit from Genesis. My philosophy about this is, it will be a relatively easy, specific process or adjustment. If not, then I am done, it's not worth losing the car for weeks for or months, or having the ENTIRE interior removed and replaced, or sunroof replaced. That's all absolutely looney tunes to do, imo, for this clunk. It would be easier to sell the car than go through all of that, sheesh. It's not that bad. I understand it's all relative to you plural, but I am pretty zen on this one, but it is there nonetheless. I do have confidence the dealer can fix or alleviate most of it.

Note - it only really happens on city streets, on rough / very rough roads / driving in parking lots, going over slight elevation difference between individual tires. Does not do it on the hwy, or smoother roads in town. Cooler temps make it less likely to occur.
