  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Battery replacement

I would assume the parts store don't want to install trunk batteries since too many people out there will opt for the cheaper non AGM which could become a liability issue. Not to mention how many times I have watched them struggle in the parking lot just trying to change a bulb or wiper blades!

I had to switch the plug blank from one side of the battery to the other
The OEM tube did not go into new battery as tight as the OEM.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

So what did you do to solve that problem? I'm assuming you were able to buy an adapter from some where.

Yes, Hyundai Motor America buys batteries in the US from Interstate (or whomever) and puts their part number on them and distributes them to Hyundai dealers. What I am saying is that they don't use Interstate batteries at the factory in South Korea.

Interstate is owned by Johnson Controls, which also supplies batteries for many other brands such as AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, and many others.

I don't know for sure, but would wonder if the INTERSTATE BATTERY-H8-100AH is an AGM battery, as was the Platinum one from AutoZone that you are comparing it to. Based on the price, it seem unlikely. A more fair comparison would be the Gold batteries from AutoZone. In fact, the Interstate battery sold by the dealer may be more like the Silver AutoZone.

If your Genesis is 7 years old, I don't believe the OEM battery was AGM (but the 2nd Generation Genesis starting in MY 2016 and the 2017+ G80 do use AGM as OEM, part number 37110-B1100).

The online price for Hyundai part number 37110-B1100 (AGM battery) is $480.94, but it is probably an H9 battery and not an H8 .
2015 5.0 Ultimate , just replaces original battery. Made in Nov of 2014 . Installed in car Feb 2015. Battery was still working. Dont like to take chances, so purchased at dealer for 250$ . I know I could have saved some money, but I was already at the dealer

That's the kind of stuff happens to me. I purchased an OEM Battery, 250$ from the dealer whom does all the work on the car. I realize I paid a little more than a parts store, but this particular dealer helps me out when I have any issue large or small. They do good work and dont try to take advantage me.

I stuck it in there. Hope it stays. Thought about some silicone rtv to hold it but didn't. I'll check it when I check my spare tire air pressure.
That's another thing to check when you're in there. Mine was way low.

Wow, $250 from the dealer is a great price. Mine quoted me $375 so I got one at AutoZone for $190....

While changing the oil last week, my local Indy called and said OEM battery was negligible (2015). Replacement is Bosch AGM 950 CCA. $325 installed. I had them do it. AAA battery service said they wouldn’t install a trunk mounted battery because of the vent tube. Autozone here on LI scares me.

I own a 2013 R-Spec. Is battery replacement a dealer only job? I've had cars that lock up when you disconnect the battery. Once this happens the car has to be towed to the dealer for battery install and electronics reset.

Personally, I'd only get a replacement at the dealer. Have AAA get you jump started and then drive to the dealer. I do know that if the car is not hooked up to a charger while the old battery is disconnected and removed, you will lose all the car and AV's settings. That's a lot of settings.
That's what I suspected. I had a 99 Corvette that needed a battery replacement. I tried it myself only to discover that when I disconnected the battery it completely locked up and had to be towed to the dealer.

Did you plug in a power source to hold the settings? Many cars need a device plugged into the lighter socket to retain all the settings and anti-theft features.

I have a 2017 G80 and have been having some strange issues that sound battery related. The car often sits for up to a week or more at a time without being started. On at least three occasions the battery was dead and needed to be charged prior to it being able to start the car. On 2 other occasions, I had to hold the fob close to the starter button before it would start and when it did, the trip odometer and MPG info was reset to zero.
Bad news is that it happens at all. The good news is that it has always happened at home, and not in a dark parking lot in the middle of the night when I leave work.
The only thing I can think of is that the battery is on it's way out. The nearest dealership is over 2 hours (each way) from me, that is a real pain in the ass. That said, I am considering putting in a new battery myself, "just in case". Being as the battery is out of warranty, I can either do it myself, or take it to Battery Plus or an auto parts store for replacement.
Has anyone else experienced anything like I described? Any and all comments and suggestions are appreciated.!

My car sat in a lot for a month and it killed the battery. Nothing I did would revive it. Picked up a new one from O'Reillys ($190) and on one occasion it's gone dead in a little over a year. Some kind of serious current draw on the thing. Someone here posted Autozone? had the proper battery for $139? with a coupon/discount.

I got one of these battery tender's from Amazon ($24?) and hard wired the included plug-in adapter (ground post on the fender & hot from the fuse box... don't forget to add an inline fuse). If it's gonna sit for more than 4-5 days, I'll throw this on. Easy to install along with the battery. My wife's old 2007 Sante Fe's non AGM battery lasted nearly seven years before it died (a month b/4 we traded it in... along with a new set of tires... figures). So much for new technology.

G90 had a head unit draw.

The AutoZone battery is a "fits in the hole" battery, not a spec-for-spec replacement. While they'll work, if you have a current draw, it will last about half as long. If I remember correctly, the Duralast/Autozone spec battery was only 68 amp-hours compared to the OEM 105 amp-hours.

Duracell is the only comparable option to the OEM battery ($450) and it's still expensive at $290:

Wow! I did good then, I got a Battery from dealer 270$. I always use a tender as well ,for my car sits for weeks at a time.

If I remember correctly, the O'Reilly battery (that's currently in my car) is the same part number/size/1050 CCA AGM replacement. Don't know about the Autozone piece. $270 from the dealer was a steal.

what’s the Amp-hour rating? For the car, that’s actually more important than the CCA 😉
