  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

Good luck! Keep us posted and let us know what it is they are doing to fix the rattle. 👍

Hey mrclean, can you post a link to the tape you used? I was thinking of grabbing some next time I'm near a hardware store. Thanks!

This is the one I bought. The price has since gone up but you can find others for less.

I can mail you some of mine if you want. Let me know.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
after 3 days at the dealership and the kit, got the car back today. Still rattles. It's less? but still very noticeable.
"noise is completely gone and you should be good for few years" my ass LOL
Had a 2019 loaner with ~7k miles and never rattled. Mine has ~20k miles on it.

Yeah, that is why I am taking the plunge and getting mine replaced. My dealer suggested that immediately, service advisor said that's the only way for an actual, permanent fix, that the sunroof is broken, hence the rattle. It itself is broken, and there are no adjustments really, some bracket stuff, but only replacing or shoving foam or tshirts up in there stops the rattle. There are parts integral to the sunroof that are broken, and that cannot be removed or replaced. Whole thing has got to go.

He also said parts take about 3 days to get in, and they can fix it in two, tops. He said they do it all the time to Hyundai products. It's giant Hyundai dealer in a very large, brand-new facility with a stand-alone genesis dealer in at the end of the building, a huge service facility, and they service a very large area exclusively. So hopefully, he wasn't exaggerating and they can do this no problem. They also have a hyundai-specific body shop on the premises.

my 2020 loaner also has zero noise issues. only 700 miles though.

Well, bad news. After a fix by my dealer (something involving adjusting the sunroof rails) that lasted from January until now, my rattle is back and as bad as ever. Worse, my preferred dealer just lost their Genesis franchise, so now I have to go through the whole process all over again. Wish me luck!

Good luck man, gosh. Sunroofs. I don't even like them, I just liked all of the other stuff in the elite package.

Got the car back. Car is completely quiet now. Hooray. The dealer went ahead and fixed my squeaky center console also, and I also got my brakes lathed. However, there was a damage to the b-pillar trim clips on the passenger side, so that's getting replaced. Sunroof glass sticks up a tiny bit in the middle when closed, but if it it's not a leak danger, then I'm leaving it because they'd have to drop the headliner again to get in there. Headliner has a grease few spots on it, so Genesis has scheduled my car with a detailer for an interior detail to take care of that. SO, problem solved. New sunroof did it. No whiff-whiff crackly noise either, as they put new clips in the headliner. Am now QUIET!!!

I know I have a few cosmetic issues now to solve, but that's peanuts compared to the constant clank-clank of that GD effed up sunroof. Dealer has been fantastic and so responsive - Tuscaloosa Hyundai-Genesis. Brand new store, I think it's the Hyundai-Genesis flagship for the southeast, the said it's the largest in the south. Anyway, great dealer, state-of-the-art facilities, and I think they are trying hard to prove themselves, and they've done a good job so far. They've made it all easy.

Good to hear! Hope it sticks, as I can think of one or two members who got the sunroof replaced where the noise came back in short order.

Ahhhh I will not think about that. Also, what else am I supposed to do? The temp fixes here are great, and super helpful, but they are temp, I wanted use of the sunroof, and the noise to go away. There was no third option, my friend. Either foam it up, or take it out.

Fair enough, I basically never use my sunroof but I would want a more permanent fix if I did.

Yep, that’s what happened to me. Quiet lasted about a week.

I hear a pop coming from the front windshield area sometimes going over bigger bumps. I'm guessing that is really the sunroof.
From experience here, does this develop more as a constant rattle later on?

Not in my experience. In fact, after hearing the popping/crackling sound all last summer, mine has been completely quiet this whole summer. Didn't do a thing. Go figure, shrug.

But don't worry. My entire dashboard and console rattles, so I have more than enough irritating noise to drive me insane in my 20 day old car.

To the people who have the sunroof noise only when it's hot, did the dealer provide any solution? I'm bringing my car in for service and I'm debating if I should bring it up. It only happens when it's hot out (and it's incredibly annoying when it does), but on cool days, it's totally fine. Heading into fall/winter, I'm not sure if I should kick this can down the road or have them look at it.

Thanks!
