  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just wanted to FYI anyone about the "evening sales manager" Chris. I will just paste my complaint letter below, I have only sent it too the Hyundai Corp., I will be mailing it to the GM of that dealership, dont think it will matter much.

I just wanted to voice a complaint about the treatment I had at the North Freeway Hyundai (13915 North Freeway, Houston). The one bright spot of my visit to the dealership was sales person Charles Dillahunty, he was great. Charles took us out to test drive the Genesis Coupe and trying to educate us on not only on the great features of the automobile but the dealers pricing of the vehicle. I must admit, I was very impressed by the styling and looks of the car, I got my first view of the car on Motor Week but after that I haven’t seen many and I had no idea of pricing. After the test drive Charles brought us in to the dealership to discuss pricing, he wrote down what offer he could make to us and asked was it ok, I gave him a number, he said he would do what he could. Charles then took my offer to Chris, he mentioned was his night sales manager), he arrived back at the table with a price that 2 thousand more than my offer. After I informed Charles that price wasn’t what I wanted to pay, Charles tried to work the deal , even tried to sell us a comparable Genesis Coupe with less options closer to our offered price point. So after what I say was a half hour spent I finally told Charles that this would be a impulse buy, and I really need to do more research to know more about the car so I can know if I’m being unrealistic about pricing. So he asked me to meet the Sales manager. So he took me over to meet him, so the manger said “What’s going on?” Charles told him we could not agree on what I wanted to pay. “So it’s no deal then” says Chris looking at me. Chris says to me “Invoice?” which I got to mean by his inflection (I’m giving you it at Invoice, you want me to do better?). “So its price?” Chris replies to me, I said yes. Chris turns to Charles and says “see, it’s no deal, I got in 5 minutes what It took you a hour to find out.” I know that you can’t hear the tone that he took with me through these letters I typed but I could not believe that he said all this in front of me. After he said that, I just walked away and got my wife and started to leave the dealership. Charles ran back I guess to get some paperwork or something, but before we could leave the dealership lot, he caught us and in so many words apologized for what had happened. I told him that it wasn’t his fault, I felt less than human the way that Sales managers spoke at me, I don’t know how he deals with other customers that decide not to buy that day, if it’s the same way, I’m sure they would be feeling like me and would not visit that dealership ever again.

That was yesterday, Charles called me early this morning to apologize again for my treatment and to offer me another car with all the options I wanted and priced closer to my offer. I told him that I was looking at other dealerships and what they had to offer on that vehicle. I spoke with my cousin today that has been in the car business for years, he told me not to take it personally. I don't see how I couldn't.

Do not go to Humble Hyundai. They are owned by the same parent company and they treated me very poorly. I have a thread posted in this forum. I sent a letter to the directors of the company that owns both dealerships. One of the directors is the General Manager at North Freeway Hyundai, so I doubt he will be helpful. Good luck.

"Sales Managers" are like that. When I wanted to buy my 02 Continental, (trading in one of my two 98 Continentals) I worked with a very nice Salesman at Longwood L/M in Sanford. After he went back and forth with the Sales Manager, we settled on a price. I was paying CASH. Told them I was writing them a check for the deposit (it was tuesday) and would return on Friday to pay the rest and pick up the car at that time. Sales manager wanted me to pick up the car right there and then. I said no, because I had not yet paid for it. He said, "don't worry about that, we will make out a promissory note". OK. I was all set to take it home when I noticed the salesman making out papers to Ford Credit. I told him that I hope that is not for me, as I was not going to sign it. Sales manager returned and asked what was wrong. When I told him that this was Ford Credit, not a promissory note. He then said, "well its the same thing". I then told him (pointing to my forhead) that it does not say Stupid up here and that I know what a promissory note is. Well long story short, he said he will not hold the car for me (even though he has a $1000 deposit check) until friday, saying what if someone comes in tonight or tomorrow and will pay full price.
I then told him that "I am no longer interested in the car" and I got my $1000 deposit check back (tore it up but kept the pieces) and took the papers they were making out for me, with me. Sales Manager then said that ok, when I come back on Friday, I could buy the car. I again told him "I AM NO LONGER INTERESTED IN THIS CAR". I felt really bad for the Salesman, because he worked with me for quite a while, and he lost his commission. Sales manager again telephoned me that night, and again the next morning, and again, I told him that I am no longer interested in that car.

A couple weeks later, I found another one (my present one) at Plaza L/M in Leesburg, that had the exact same options as the one in Sanford. It ended up costing me $1000 more in cash, but without trading in my 98 Continental. (I.E. clean deal, no trade). Ended up keeping the 98 that I wanted to trade for an additional 10 months, (now I had three Continentals, [two 98's and one 02]) and I used that 98 as a workhorse for those ten months, taking three long trips with it, before I sold it ten months later. With the money I got for selling that 98, I still was much further ahead, then if I had traded it at Longwood. That Sales Manager at Longwood (Joe "K") is still there, and my shadow has never fallen on Longwoods property since.

I hate Sales Managers almost as much as I hate F&I Guys. <grin>

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I had just the opposite happen to me. I had a bad experience at Sterling McCall Hyundai and a good experience buying a 2001 Genesis 4.6 from North Freeway Hyundai. Chris was apparently the GM on duty last night. In my opinion, Sterling McCall staff behaved in an unprofessional manner. I showed North Freeway a quote I had from a different dealership; it was, I think, a good price for me yet a fair price for them. They matched it in 5 minutes. No games were played during the meeting with the finance guy either. I left feeling like it was a win-win business deal.

This doesn't mean that you were treated well in your dealings with them; I can only tell you that my experience was a positive one.

Statistically, once a customer leaves the dealership without a purchase, the sales people know that it is unlikely the customer will return to the same dealership and purchase a car on another day, and they sometimes get frustrated and loose their cool.

Unfortunately, most of the despicable tactics salespersons use to sell cars are deployed because they usually work (or they would quit using them).

Care to share your bad experience? I went to S. McCall w/ a true car no haggle quote that was $2783 off MSRP on an R-spec. They would not honor it and tried to low ball my on my trade in (a C63). It was the only R=spec on the lot and they claimed to have 3 others interested.

Not a good start, but I was able to work out a pretty good deal on my Equus Sig (a demo 1/ 1800 miles, but exactly a color combo I wanted). I got the Equus for $54K ($4.8K off) and negotiated a better trade in.

Once the deal was done, everyone was great...the GM had me in my office, took me around to meet everyone and treated me like a celebrity. The finance gal was great too, didn't try and strong-arm me into buying aftermarket junk (like a Mercedes Greenway did to me). My salesguy was also very nice.

I will be back, and next time I expect a loyalty discount on an R-spec:)
