  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Say Goodbye to the Flat Spotted Tires / Shuttering Theory

Today I brought the Genesis in for vibration coming from the armrest at about 30 mph. Already had the driveshaft replaced a few months ago and the vibration is now worse than before the replacement.

Was told by the service manager that they had another Genesis in with the same issue, and that Hyundai Engineering had just notified them of a fix for the car that involved "spacers in the drive shaft". He told me that the parts for the other car were on order and as long as my car was an affected VIN they should be able to apply the fix to my car.

The service manager didn't have any more information than that, but they've given me a Kona as a loaner while they investigate further.

Sounds like this dealership has replaced a ton of driveshafts with the same issue, and even they are getting a little sick of replacing the part for no reason.

I'm cautiously optimistic... I'll update when I hear more.

Another update - got a call from the service department and the replacement "washer/spacers" have been ordered and should arrive next Monday and be done on Tuesday.

I'll update when I have more info.

Still cannot understand how my symptoms are off and on. Yesterday to and from work horrible vibrations. Today, none on the morning ride.

I've noticed the vibration is significantly worse when it is cold outside.

Any chance it was cold yesterday and warmer today?

Excellent. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm going to wait until you get your car back and see how the spacers worked. I have a new, one-month old G80 with the vibration/shuttering issues that you do and when I called my dealership, the manager hadn't heard of the problem before. I'll see how yours goes and share this information.

Again, thanks for posting about this. Very useful.

I drove my Genesis 500 miles this weekend, and did not notice any fluttering or noise that some guys describe in there posts. I am wondering if the fluttering only exists in the V6 models? Does anybody with a 5.0 experience fluttering noise at that 25 to 30 mph range?

Hoping for the update on the spacers today. Today was th day for the replacement. My dealer knows nothing about this so please post up part numbers from the service order. Thanks.

Yes, it's worse when it's cold. But it's there regardless.

Unfortunately I don't have an update yet, because the parts have not arrived. As soon as I hear more I'll report back here.

Yep, my '15 5.0 does it...

I think it's an AWD problem. though i've known the problem at 30-37mph.

Yet another update, the “spacers/washers” are back ordered. The dealer hopes they will arrive in the next 1-2 weeks. Will update when I have more information.

They did a drive shaft angle measurement on mine and shimmed the center bearing. I'm guessing I got your spacers or the field engineer had them in hand. It appears to have fixed my problem, but it's only been a day.

Please keep us posted! I just heard from my service advisor that there is a TSB #20-DS-002H of 9/24/2020 that describes the procedure to measure and set propeller shaft angles to optimize driveline vibration performance on certain 2015-2016MY 3.8L AWD G80 (DH) vehicles. He should be getting back to me soon to let me know if they have the right tools to measure the angle and perform the TSB

Got the car back put about 30 miles on it, no vibration. Woke up this morning and drove to work with 6666 miles on the clock. Got 6700 miles on it and the vibration is nearly gone, but still there barely. I'm going to sleep on it and see how it is tomorrow.

Same happened when they greased the spline and reclocked at the giubo. (60 miles after the 'fix' it came back) I've noticed the vibration better or worse depending on temp and it's cold (40*F) and the vibration gets better when air temp is cold.

EDIT: Problem is the dealer can't feel the problem but I do. but they're taking my word for it. I'm almost wondering if it's tires as, after they changed 3 of the 4 tires the car felt buzzy and sometimes the front tires cause a high speed shimmy (77 mph)

EDIT: I should add. This is on a 2020 G80 sport. (3.3L)

And here is the TSB
Hey, thanks a lot for this. It's odd that the bulletin states this is for 15-16 cars but then the flow chart has dates up until 2020 models. I think this is exactly the issue. I have a 2020 that has this shimmy. I've been waiting to see how this comes out but now I'll contact my dealership and forward this TSB if they don't have it. Great work, thanks.

IMHO this TSB should be done on an alignment style lift where the vehicle still has weight on the wheels and subframe. Unless this TSB takes into account droop of the subframe bushings.

I'd be surprised any owner of a 2015-16 needs spacers on the center bearing support. On the used driveshaft I purchased, the support has sagged better than 5/16" (I don't know it's mileage). The only way to make this up is to lower the trans.

Interesting that they want 15-16 owners to replace the driveshaft first. I think I mentioned it previously but before I'd buy a new driveshaft, I'd be tempted to flip the center bearing 180 degrees as the support is on center, that or replace the center support.
