Add Xenon headlights?

My 2010 sedan is a month old. I like it, but I wish it had xenon lights. I got used to them with my past Acuras and feel sort of embarrassed that my lights are "yellow." Can the existing lights simply be replaced with xenon lights? If so, is this a home job, specialty job, or dealer job? Any idea how much it would cost?

Many thanks. That is exactly what I wanted. The job is a bit more involved than I had guessed, but doesn't look like a huge problem.
 
I know most of you guys love your HID headlights, however I am not a fan of them.
Yes, my Genesis has them, plus my former 07 Lincoln had them, and although I often take long trips driving all night, I just have not found any advantage of the HID lights compared to QI lights. My 02 Continental has the QI bulbs, and yes, they are slightly different "color" than the HID's, but IMHO, the HID is no better. People are putting too much stock in the fact that HID's are "whiter" than QI lamps, (which themselves are whiter than the old "Sealed Beam" headlights). Whiter does not mean seeing better.
Also, much easier changing out a QI bulb than a HID bulb.

Before 2001 or 2002, all headlights in France were YELLOW. I drove all over Europe with yellow headlights, and never had problems seeing. (Now with a Unified Europe, all EU countries must have the same laws, so France switched to White headlights, as well as adopting the Euro).
 
Color me ignorant, but doesn't the Genesis have HID lights (on the low beams)? I do know the high beams are Xenon bulbs.
 
I "think" only the 2010 with the Tech Pkg have the HID. (I could be wrong).
 
To get the HID lights, you must have the Tech package. They are not BI-Xenon.

Also, yes the HID's are whiter, and while you may not "see" the advantage, HID's especially at the stock 4300K color temp product much more light output (Lumens) vs halogens.
 
All Genesis sedans have projector type light assemblies, but only the Tech packages get HID bulbs (and swiveling assemblies). The halogen bulbs Hyundai uses are deficient imo - not even as bright as a basic Camrys. I haven't seen such poor factory headlights since the Audi 200.

4300k-4500k HIDs are a great way to improve your night illumination, and since projector assemblies are designed to work with them, they are essentially plug and play.

Well... you could certainly get the parts, but if Hyundai is like other manufacturers, the cost would be prohibitive. If the factory light assembly for HIDs is different (integrated wiring, motors for the swivel, integrated ballasts and ignitors), you're looking at ~$600 in the assemblies alone. Then there's the question of whether or not its compatible with the non-HID wiring harness, and how would the swivel lights behave with no steering input? Then you'd have to buy factory HID bulbs that are typically very expensive, like $250 each.

I don't know what Hyundai actually charges for a replacement bulb but on my other cars with HIDs the price is ridiculous compared to aftermarket suppliers like DDM Tuning. For me, an aftermarket kit cost me $80 shipped and took me around an hour to install with no instructions for the Genesis. Going with factory parts would require a much higher cost, more labor, and more parts and complexity.

Going with factory parts would be an order of magnitude more expensive. In my case, I could have just bought a car with the whole Tech package for an extra $1000! As it was, HIDs were the only thing I really wanted in the tech package, so I just bought a P+ and added them myself.

Do you have to install relay for the HIDs to work in auto mode? I did install the HIDs but only one of them comes on in "auto" mode, but both of them "fire" when I switch to manual mode.

The Genesis has a huge battery so power shouldn't be an issue. You just have to be careful wher you get your kit -eBay specials are a gamble due to poor quality control, so you want a kit with a lifetime warranty from a company with some sort of reputation. This is why I went with DDM in my original thread - it has been supplying kits to BMW and sportbike owners for years with good local support.

You essentially need to add the electronics necessary to raise the light voltage for HIDs. HIDs don't work well as high beams because they need a moment to brighten up, and frequently turning them on and off shortens their lives - HIDs work best when they are on and left on, but these days the bulbs can be replaced cheaply.

There is an HID bulb that has a motorized shield - this is used in mainly German cars to adjust the beam of light for high and low and utilizes a single beam. This is nice because the HID is always on and you just change its area of effect. More elegant a solution and you get HIDs for high beams, but more expensive and not even an option on our Genesis.

Someone here added HIDs to his high beams, but did not recommend it for others due to the characteristics of HIDs and the level of effort required. I know other people that have done similar, with the same opinions. personally I don't see much point in HID foglights - foglights are supposed to be low intensity, short range, peripheral lights for low speed driving. I would consider some HID driving lights however, and mount them in the lower grill.

Thanks for the info and excellent installation directions. I ordered the DDMtuning kit which is now on sale for $50. I was surprised you could get HID for that price. I recall when they were $300...for an individual light.
 
I have the HID for the low beams as part of the V6 Full Tech package and I would like to install HID for the High beams. Any thoughts, guidance, instructions, difficulties as compared to the low beams shown on the other thread by Sayantsi?
