so far so good on my end. a little over 2 years and 16k kms in, no real issues. i've done two dealer 'free' services and two oil changes on my own @ 6 month intervals in between the free annual services. i've not been impressed with the workmanship or care taken by the dealer, but otherwise they've done a decent job and i always get a nice Genesis loaner. the main dealer is Hyundai, but they clearly save the more knowledgeable service reps to handle Genesis customers.
i complained about a noisy front suspension knock early in year 1. there was a clunk when going over traffic calming bumps. turns out i was just not used to how the G70 operated. i also had a bit of a creaky moonroof which the dealer lubricated. i had some brake squeal which has not come back since the dealer services the brakes. other than that i have had no cause for concern.
the car still makes me look back at it after parking. i also still get complements on it and enough people do not know what it is so there are questions at gas stations, etc. it's a good looking ride for sure, especially when detailed and clean and with the summer
rims/tires on it. the paint is quite delicate and i had some parking lots dings/scratches shortly after buying it. mostly corrected with wet sanding and PDR but i still know where the blemishes were.
the interior is holding up really well, and i still love the fit and finish as well as the sporty and luxurious looking diamond stitched Nappa. i use 303 protectant on all interior surfaces and am impressed with the durability so far. no creases or crushing of the driver seat bolsters. my kids do just fine in the rear seat, but in over two years i have yet to have adults back there. i suspect the story would change when that happens. i've done a couple road trips and must say the seats are awesome for extended intervals.
trunk space is tight. i can get two bags of clubs in there...but it's a good thing i'm an Engineer. not having a true spare tire is still a gripe of mine which i haven't gotten anywhere with, but by far my biggest gripe is not having vented seats. that's the one item Genesis Canada got wrong about the 6MT trim packaging. the nailed it on everything else.
handling is great - but a touch less body roll would be nice. perhaps a sway bar upgrade is in my future. the lighter 2.0T/RWD setup makes turn-in super crisp and very well balanced. i love the
wheel/tire combo Genesis developed. brakes are awesome with the euro sport compound pads...but the dust is a serious trade-off. the LSD is much more noticeable and active than what i had in my previous G37S. i can really feel the inside tire biting hard.
after adding the JB4, the 2.0T has plenty of power. especially with the lighter weight of the 6MT/RWD trim. ~300hp is where this trim should have been from the factory, and that's what the JB4 gives. i am used to the smaller boosted engine, my first turbo, but i do miss the fuss-free thrust of a larger NA engine. not to mention the sounds of a NA engine. turbo lag is an issue, even with JB4 and even if it is very brief, so that needs to be planned for when setting off or passing, etc. i don't rat race the car or beat on it from a dig. i prefer 2nd-4th gear pulls. this engine does best in the midrange. it is not a great launcher due to gearing and ECU tuning. oh yeah, and Sport mode is really the only way to drive the 6MT. otherwise the dreaded 1st gear throttle lag is annoying.
the 6MT is a solid and completely satisfactory gearbox. no, not S2000 smooth, but totally fine and i have no complaints. my wife is also able to drive it with no problem, unlike the G37's gearbox which was more truck-like until i modified it. there's no clutch slip with the JB4 and it seems like it could handle more power. the weak link may be elsewhere in the gearbox so i won't push it.
fuel economy has also impressed. i've seen 31 USmpg on road trips, and i regularly get under 10L/100kms on my commute - about a 20-25% increase from the G37's VQ. with that economy, the small-ish tank is not as much of an issue as i expected it to be. another 5-10 litres would still be nice though.
all in all, i took a leap of faith with the G70 and so far i have no regrets. i plan to keep the car past the warranty period as i do with most of my cars so it'll be with me for a while. i suspect my next car may be electric, but i'd have to have a gas car in the stable for weekend fun. Genesis has lived up to expectations and i am glad to see their growth plans with the upcoming SUVs. this should bod well for the viability of the brand, but they'll need to catch up with electric or hybrid options soon.
