If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Oh hey, haven't seen you old farts in a while. Bought a 2019 G70 (I guess 2020 could chime in too) and have an opinion? Would love to hear it here. Yeah the new engine wouldn't exactly translate, but maybe the sunroof rattle, alignment issue, or shitty dealership might.

Would love to hear about other owner's experiences after a couple years in.

As far as my goes: It was great up until 14K miles. At which point I moved states and left it to may parents. Shit idea. Don't do that. Your dad doesn't actually know wtf he's doing. Aka he scratched my car. Other than that, it has been quite reliable.

My G70 though going on 3 years only has 6K miles on it. Only problem so far was a pulsating brake pedal which there is extensive posts on. Dealer corrected to complete satisfaction. Other than that, it so far it exhibits all the positive traits of my 2 prior Genesis cars. Which is a good thing.
Welcome back.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I've had my G70 since Nov 2018. Still a big fan of the car. I blacked out the chrome trim and the factory wheels. Also added a throttle controller. Tons of fun to drive and fantastic in winter with AWD. Dealer service has been great too!

Big question is why the heck would you leave your G70??

Love my G70 so far, 13K miles on it, no problems other than Bluelink wouldn't work upon delivery, and there was a noticeable trunk alignment problem (unfortunately I was so excited upon delivery that I didn't notice the trunk until I got home). Both of those problems have been corrected. I intend to hold onto this car for a few years and after that, I'm actually not sure I'll be buying another petrol vehicle; will see what the options are and where technology is at that point. My car is "officially" unmodified, save for aftermarket subs in the trunk.

I have the same thought process. Not sure if my next car will be electric or the one after but it's gonna happen... The question I'll be mulling for a couple year is do I buy out my G70 lease, get into the next G70 or move to electric or something else...?

I've got about 14k miles on my 3.3T AWD G70. It'll be two years this Feb. The car is still great. Reliable and fun to drive. The only issues have been the brakes (fixed with Euro pads and new rotors) and the sunroof popping in hot weather, which it mysteriously didn't do this past summer. (I still find the seats uncomfortable after an hour or so, but I'm living with that and taking a different car on longer trips, which is too bad. I seem to be in the minority here.)
Since I do my own oil and filter changes, the car hasn't been to the dealer in over a year.
The question will be how is the car after 60k or 80k miles, hopefully still good (I don't lease).

'19 3.3T AWD Prestige, March 2019, 22k miles. Still loving my car. Best thing I did was buy some factory 19's with the PS4s to replace the 18s. Didn't love the 18s with all-season tires in the winter last year so dedicated snows this year. Had the brake pulse issue, fixed by dealer and good so far. Have had good luck with valet service from McDonald in Littleton. Had a rattle from the metal piece on the turn signal stalk, replaced under warranty. A little wind noise from A pillar area has developed. Still getting positive comments on the looks, including quite a few 'Bentley?' comments. Also just added the Carlinkit 2.0 adapter for wireless Carplay and happy with it. The biggest disappointment has been the Genesis app, don't hardly use it because it so often failed me. I do wish the key just had a button for autostart. With a 16 months left on lease, I would consider getting another but will reserve judgement until I see the refresh in person. GX70 might be a choice too!

I didn't know there were adapters for wireless carplay. Does that exist for Android Auto and do you recommend one?

I bought the carlinkit 2.0 from Amazon. I don't think it works for android. Carplay2air was another alternative but after research (youtube videos and reviews) I felt like the carlinkit appeared to pair up faster on startup so that is the one I bought.

The only thing I don't like is when it pairs it automatically switches the audio input to carplay. If I was listening to radio or sirius it overrides. This only happens at startup so a quick stab at the mode button takes it back.

It fails every once in a while but it did the same when I used a cable. I just unplug it and plug it back in and 30 seconds later it works.

It is nice that I can keep the phone in my pocket or just throw it on the wireless charging pad without having to worry about a wire.

The unit is small enough that it sits in the left side of the tray and doesn't interfere with the lid or charging tray. Excuse my dust, LOLIMG_7262.webp

Genesis 2.0T. Curently ~92K Kms (~57K Miles) Since July 2018
Battery died ~6K kms (~3.7K Miles), Turn signal switch failed at round 50K kms (~31K Miles). Currently on my 4th windshield and second set of sparkplugs.
It was serviced at the dealer till about 50K kms (5 services) without issues and then maintained at home. Minor mods: Catch Can and a "Pedal Tuner".
Warranty will run out in another 8K kms. Hoping to see another 3 more years of trouble free ownership and then planning to move on to an electric / hybrid vehicle.

Four windshields?? 😱 What's up with that?

Terrible luck....I guess. For some reason I get hit more in this car than any other in the past.
The highway 401/402 (Ontario, Canada) being under perpetual construction does not help either.

Absolutely love mine! 1 year in and 13,200 miles and haven’t had even the slightest problem. I drive the s#!t out of it. Hard. It’s been bulletproof so far. I’m definitely to get the next generation when my lease is up. The ONLY gripe I have is the lack of dedicated dealers and service facilities. I had an Audi prior to this and the dealer experience was on a completely higher level. I’m not complaining about my experiences with Hyundai dealers and service, they’ve been great. I just enjoy the pampering and luxury facilities. And snacks!

Like others I have the dark chrome issues. Less common is the passenger side mirror on occasion would not open up during my drive so I turned that feature off, and this weekend my touchscreen infotainment went blank and not sure if I did that accidentally somehow but needed to turn off the car and start it again for it to return. Not interested in the dealer looking into any of these items at this point.

Other than that I love how fast and composed it is. For me its a perfect car for zipping around in town or for long stretches of freeway driving. That TT 3.3 with JB4 is as much power as Ill ever need and I like the way it looks inside and out.

Went to the dealer once for its 1st oil change in May 2020 and found it odd that they asked me if I knew my maintenance plan. I respond yeah I do its all included. Almost like they would have charged me if I wasn't informed. This is a Hyundai dealership by the way and like my previous Acura it took about 90 minutes for the oil change with no wash as I waited.

For reference this was a brand new 2019 Sport AWD leased October 2019 and now has less than 6000 miles. I'm 50/50 on if I buy it out at lease end. Depends on the reliability the next couple years.

Glad the cars are holding up and nobody's car has gone full grenade on em! (Besides the 2.0's with the faulty start/stop)

so far so good on my end. a little over 2 years and 16k kms in, no real issues. i've done two dealer 'free' services and two oil changes on my own @ 6 month intervals in between the free annual services. i've not been impressed with the workmanship or care taken by the dealer, but otherwise they've done a decent job and i always get a nice Genesis loaner. the main dealer is Hyundai, but they clearly save the more knowledgeable service reps to handle Genesis customers.

i complained about a noisy front suspension knock early in year 1. there was a clunk when going over traffic calming bumps. turns out i was just not used to how the G70 operated. i also had a bit of a creaky moonroof which the dealer lubricated. i had some brake squeal which has not come back since the dealer services the brakes. other than that i have had no cause for concern.

the car still makes me look back at it after parking. i also still get complements on it and enough people do not know what it is so there are questions at gas stations, etc. it's a good looking ride for sure, especially when detailed and clean and with the summer rims/tires on it. the paint is quite delicate and i had some parking lots dings/scratches shortly after buying it. mostly corrected with wet sanding and PDR but i still know where the blemishes were.

the interior is holding up really well, and i still love the fit and finish as well as the sporty and luxurious looking diamond stitched Nappa. i use 303 protectant on all interior surfaces and am impressed with the durability so far. no creases or crushing of the driver seat bolsters. my kids do just fine in the rear seat, but in over two years i have yet to have adults back there. i suspect the story would change when that happens. i've done a couple road trips and must say the seats are awesome for extended intervals.

trunk space is tight. i can get two bags of clubs in there...but it's a good thing i'm an Engineer. not having a true spare tire is still a gripe of mine which i haven't gotten anywhere with, but by far my biggest gripe is not having vented seats. that's the one item Genesis Canada got wrong about the 6MT trim packaging. the nailed it on everything else.

handling is great - but a touch less body roll would be nice. perhaps a sway bar upgrade is in my future. the lighter 2.0T/RWD setup makes turn-in super crisp and very well balanced. i love the wheel/tire combo Genesis developed. brakes are awesome with the euro sport compound pads...but the dust is a serious trade-off. the LSD is much more noticeable and active than what i had in my previous G37S. i can really feel the inside tire biting hard.

after adding the JB4, the 2.0T has plenty of power. especially with the lighter weight of the 6MT/RWD trim. ~300hp is where this trim should have been from the factory, and that's what the JB4 gives. i am used to the smaller boosted engine, my first turbo, but i do miss the fuss-free thrust of a larger NA engine. not to mention the sounds of a NA engine. turbo lag is an issue, even with JB4 and even if it is very brief, so that needs to be planned for when setting off or passing, etc. i don't rat race the car or beat on it from a dig. i prefer 2nd-4th gear pulls. this engine does best in the midrange. it is not a great launcher due to gearing and ECU tuning. oh yeah, and Sport mode is really the only way to drive the 6MT. otherwise the dreaded 1st gear throttle lag is annoying.

the 6MT is a solid and completely satisfactory gearbox. no, not S2000 smooth, but totally fine and i have no complaints. my wife is also able to drive it with no problem, unlike the G37's gearbox which was more truck-like until i modified it. there's no clutch slip with the JB4 and it seems like it could handle more power. the weak link may be elsewhere in the gearbox so i won't push it.

fuel economy has also impressed. i've seen 31 USmpg on road trips, and i regularly get under 10L/100kms on my commute - about a 20-25% increase from the G37's VQ. with that economy, the small-ish tank is not as much of an issue as i expected it to be. another 5-10 litres would still be nice though.

all in all, i took a leap of faith with the G70 and so far i have no regrets. i plan to keep the car past the warranty period as i do with most of my cars so it'll be with me for a while. i suspect my next car may be electric, but i'd have to have a gas car in the stable for weekend fun. Genesis has lived up to expectations and i am glad to see their growth plans with the upcoming SUVs. this should bod well for the viability of the brand, but they'll need to catch up with electric or hybrid options soon.

Good perspective on the 2.0T and JB4. I've driven the 2.0T a few times (loaners) and liked it but with JB4 it would be a very balanced car with plenty of go power. I recommend you get a WindBooster. The throttle dead spot will be removed and you may actually enjoy comfort mode. It's made a notable difference in daily driving for me and I no longer need to switch to Sport mode unless I really want the fun ramped up.

Bought my 2020 G70 Sport AWD in Canada back in summer of 2019. Currently have ~34K km. Love the car and plan to keep it for awhile, hopefully 6+ years.

I have had issues with the dealership customer experience, red seat piping, 360 camera and the occasional hard shifting.

The dealerships are really a hit or miss, I've gone to about 5 different ones in various provinces. The biggest issue is the servicing at Hyundai who have a large customer base and are used to giving 'ok' customer service. It's definitely not what you want as a Genesis customer. Issues are not having the correct fluids; engine oil, coolant, and gear oil. Not knowing the specific requirements of Genesis vehicles and owners, i.e. vehicle specs, maintenance requirements, and loaners vehicles not always given out. Customer service is mediocre at many dealerships and recently a new issue I foresee is available appointment times. As Genesis and Hyundai gets bigger there is only so many available appointment times and loaners, customers will not be able to get their vehicles serviced in a timely manner. I've had that issue recently for my 30k maintenance, I wanted to bring it in late October, but they were so busy with Hyundai vehicles and tire changes (not sure if for Genesis or Hyundai owners)I was only able to get an appointment for 15 December. If I hadn't changed my oil earlier at 25k km, my warranty could have easily been voided now.

Red piping on my driver side seat closest to door seems to peel / abraid easily. My passenger side camera is broken where the screen shows a blue screen. Local dealership is repairing both issues under warranty.

One thing that a few other owners have noted is the harsh shifting experienced at times. Dealership could not replicate and just reset the learning to try and solve it. Not sure if it's an issue as it may just be how the G70 drives, but it definitely shifts harder / jerky than my family's 2013 Santa Fe Sport and 2018 BMW 330i.

@rmod - windshield definitely seems softer? I've found this car gets more tiny chips than any other vehicle I've driven / in the family. Granted I too have done a fair amount of highway driving in Ontario so it could just be an Ontario highway thing. 😂

Other than that, small tiny things only I really noticed is center console black leather doesn't match perfectly, one is lighter. Corners of front and rear bumper aren't perfectly flush with the body as edges are either too high or too low. Folding the rear seats down causes the seatbelt buckles to dig into the leather causing dimples. All 3 of these things I've noticed in other G70s as well so it's not really an 'issue' just things that I'm nitpicking.

Overall, I'm happy about my purchase. I love my car and think it's one of the best looking thing out there. 😍

^ thanks. i've not heard of a "windbooster' but that's probably just a throttle/pedal controller. i'll look into it.

don't get me wrong, as happy as i am with my JB4 and 2.0T combo, there's no question i'd have preferred if Genesis gave me the option of the 3.3T and 6MT together. that woulda been a great setup, and i'd gladly have accepted the ~200lb weight penalty over the front axle as the compromise of moving up from the 2.0T to the 3.3T. alas, no such luck so beggars can't be choosers...

Yeah it's a throttle controller. Crazy name for it... but it works well. It has a very nice app you can use to change settings or use the device itself, which is very small. I also like that the little display screen can be completely removed, so there are no wires etc.. sticking out.
