If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I'm having issues with my vehicle which started most recently 9 days out of warranty. Below, is a chronological event of my issues. Does anyone have any ideas? My check Engine Light (CEL) keeps coming on.

March 2020 - CEL comes on. Dealership scans and code P0440 comes up and states that the "Canister Closed Valve" is periodically sticking and the replace part #3140B1500. Resolves issue.

October 29, 2020 - CEL comes on 9 days out of warranty. My mechanic scans it and P0456 comes up (Small Evap Leak). System tested and seems to be operating normally. They replaced the gas cap as I had pre-emptively purchased one from Hyundai as mine looked a little sketchy,

November 2020 - 2 days later, my CEL comes on. My mechanic scans it and P0456 comes up. He smoke tests it and it appears to be leaking through the fuel filler neck. Fuel filler neck replaced. Appears sealed and clears code. Part #31030-B1500

November 2020 - 2 days later my CEL comes back on. I'm taking it back to my mechanic later today.

I'm thinking when the original CEL came on in March 2020, while the vehicle was under warranty, is the root cause of my curent issues but I have no way to prove it. P0442 and P0456 codes are both related to the Evap system. Does anyone have any idea's or information to offer?

This car has been very reliable until now. I wanted to keep it but I can't keep sinking money into this. Should I try and get Hyundai to cover it under the premise that it's all related to the original P0442 code?

Thanks,

Thanks,
I would at least try to make the argument it is all related and not properly diagnosed up front. Problem is, how to prove it. The first fix did cure it for some time making it difficult to make a solid connection. You'd need a "forensic mechanic" to testify and prove anything.

Given that it now out of pocket, I'd consider a good indie to get another opinion and maybe find what the dealer is missing, if anything. They certainly all seem to be related but could be coincidental.

Thanks! I trust my indie mechanic and the fuel filler neck was indeed leaking during smoke test but wasn't obviously the reason the CEL keeps coming on. I know there's many reasons why the CEL keeps coming on but it's frustrating trying to repair it. I'll try my mechanic 1 more time. I have a dealer appointment next week for some outstanding warranty work and I flagged the CEL saying it's related to my CEL in march but I can't prove it so I don't have my hopes up.

It looks like my issue was caused by a pinhole in the charcoal vent canister. The small hole was after the charcoal and the smoke wouldn't penetrate the canister, which made diagnosing it challenging for my mechanic as no smoke could pass through the charcoal canister. He eventually heard a hissing sound from the canister area. Anyhow, it's been replaced and the pesky CEL is out now.

You had code p0442?

It ended up being the charcoal canister bu gas tank. There was a pinhole leak after the charcoal. Smoke test couldn't go through the charcoal canister. Changed it and it's all good now. Thx
