Genesis V8 18" wheel emblems

I'd say yes, since 10 has minor changes only from 09.

I'm getting ready to install my KDM emblem airbag cover. One question for all of you who have attempted this:

Is it necessary (or just advisable) to disconnect the battery prior to installation? Has anyone had their bag go off because they didn't do a disconnect? I ask this, wondering if the electrical connection to the airbag is one that is switched on when the engine is started or is it "unswitched," hence staying" hot" all of the time. Thanks!

I'm a proud owner of a new base 2010 4.6. Just got it last week but have not driven yet due to the snow in the north east.

I have questions with the Hyundai emblems: Couldn't we just blow torch the existing ones and replace with a new one? Why do we have to buy a whole new set just for the emblem (especially for the air bag and the wheel emblem).

Which emblems are you talking about? The ones on the wheel caps? If so, the reason is that they don't have a 4.6 model in Korea, and the 4.6 uses different wheels than the 18" wheels used on the 3.8. So while you can get genuine Hyundai winged wheel caps for the 3.8 18", you have to either make them yourself or buy them at 2x the cost if you have a 4.6.

Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Theoretically, the bag shouldn't detonate unless the sensors and computer tell it that it needs to. But it's more likely the battery disconnect is to avoid a diagnostic code being recorded by the OBD computer about a defective airbag.

Besides, even considering having to reprogram your customized settings, isn't it worth not taking the risk of ruining a $200+ airbag, having to get a dealer to clear the event (and asking you what you were doing), and possibly getting injured by the bag deployment? ;)

was just kidding about the blow torch but was wondering if we could remove the emblem from existing hub caps as well as the steering wheel and replaced with the wing emblems?
Has anyone in the forum done that? if yes, please advice process and where to buy just the emblems.

As i have looked around the caps for the v8 cost 4X as the v6 - definitely not fair.

Airbag: You can either get an aftermarket sticker ($10-20) that you place on top of the emblem or you can replace with the airbag unit from Korea. Price will be in the $200-250 range.

V8 wheel caps:

Option A: You can use a set of V6 18" winged wheel caps (they're actually a Korean market Hyundai part) for under $100 (but they might look funny on the V8 wheel's spoke design -- completely a personal preference thing).

Option B: Or you can fabricate custom caps using a set of 17" winged caps and then cutting/gluing the center piece onto the stock H caps that came with your car (after removing the Hyundai logo center). Just don't make a mistake.

Option C: Or you can pay the exorbitant prices you see for 18" winged caps because that company took a full set of 17" winged caps, dissected them, and Frankensteined them to a full set of 18" H caps. So you pay for 2 sets of caps plus labor plus markup to get the same thing as Option B.

Option D: Or some people are saying you can take four of the aftermarket steering wheel stickers, flatten them out with a rolling pin, and affix them over the Hyundai logo on the wheel caps. I can't imagine this would look good, but I haven't seen the end result, so I'll reserve judgment.

Option F: Or you can do nothing and just live with the stock Hyundai wheel caps.

very awesome assessment on the hub caps.

As for the steering wheel, was it easy to install and how Aesthetics is it? does it look like home made or professional? Can you take a close up picture of it? I'm planning to replace all the "H" logos with the wing logos but don't want to spend a rediculous amount of $$ just because of someone from Hyundai decided to put the "H" on the car vs the Genesis logo. My salesman was a korean guy and he said in Korea, the genesis comes with the wing, not the "H".

See Ashdump's excellent step-by-step with pictures here: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=3876

You can see a picture of the aftermarket steering wheel sticker by following the link in my signature below. It's not as nice as the airbag replacement but it's not cheesy looking. And it's 1/10 the cost of replacing the airbag cover.

I changed my airbag myself, as I was not happy with the stick-on deal. It sticks out and looks bad imo. The airbag emblem has different color shadings and is also bigger and is set in flush into the airbag cover so it looks proper.

Dataguy, as I noticed your great pictures re: steering wheel badge and hubcaps and as I am awaiting my badges, could you let me know if these badges just "stick" onto existing badges? Hubcaps as well?
Thanks, Oldtimer in Montreal.

There are two types of center caps going around. From what I understand, you can buy ones that fit perfectly to the V8 model but they cost like $250, or you can purchase an alternative that only cost about $50 but don't line up correctly. If you search this forum someone posted pictures of both. I went for the $50 version and don't mind it. Although I can understand why it would bother some people.

Did you have any problems installing them? Mine tends to fell off.

Does anyone know where to go to get the emblems for the V8 with 18" wheels? A while back, I checked online (Ebay) and found a couple of vendors, but unfortunately, did not buy. Today when I went on, only one vendor has the emblems, priced at over 3 the price I'd seen before. Does anyone know where else to look?

I'm the strange guy that can provide you with the winged V-8 caps for $120. I ask you to send yours to me and I will return you a winged set. The reason I ask for yours is that I purchesed two extra sets to facilitate no delays. However, the customers never return the exchange set, so I was out $240. So, I do this on a one for one exchange. I'm in Korea with the Army; my mail box is in California, should you desire a winged set, mail me yours and a $120 check and you'll receive the best looking caps around. Ebay sells V8 caps for $243, twice the cost. So for a two week wait it's definately worth 1/2 the price. Please mail your V8 caps and check too:

Nope, mine are rock solid! I did notice that it is a very very tight fit so you need to make sure that the cap is all the way in and not partially in.

Originally got the flat set from the dealer that looks a little abrupt with the edge of the spokes!? Read a thread somewhere on the site about buying the center emblems and flattening them with a rolling pin before putting then over the original H caps. I did just that and even though its not perfect it seems to flow better than the first set. Total cost $40.

Is there a particular position the cap should be put in during the install?

I'm not sure if there was a particular position, but I do think there is a pattern on the cap and wheel which fits into one another.

On the back of the caps I got from KAI there is a raised figure of a valve stem - align this figure with the valve stem on the wheel and the cap will be aligned correctly.

Cheapest price I found. Took about 2 weeks from order to delivery by UPS ground. The transaction is a little strange. (A thread is in the appearance section). I e-mailed the contact at koreautoworld and a paypal request was sent with another name on the paypal account. I assume due to a small business. Person I exchanged e-mails with was Justo. Hope this helps.

I make the V8 winged caps. I have two options in which to purchase. The final price for a set of V-8 caps will be $120.
Opt1: (Cheapest) Send me your caps and $120 then I modify them and return them to you, turn around time normally takes two weeks from the day that you ship them to me.
Opt2: Send me $260 and I'll send you a set. When you return your undamaged caps to me I'll refund you $140. Your final cost is still $120.

I'm stationed in Korea and do this for fellow Genny owners.

Please email me at giengerg@yahoo.com for more info and pictures.
