  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Problem and problem

How is it possible that most of our 15-16 genesis’ all have the same exact issues and they’re somehow not recalled. Let’s start with the fluttering and the drive shaft being replaced. Next, my seat back detached. My LED dome light went out. My wiper sprayer broke. This car drives amazing but is honestly made like garbage and Hyundai needs to own their design flaws.
I hear you complants, but you have to take in account that Hyundai/Genesis are selling grade A cars(engine/chassis mainly) at discount prices that rivals the big name luxury makes, therefore cost cutting will occur in other areas such as the controls and lights among other places. There are tradeoffs to making a well made car affordable and it seems that you discovered the areas that are the compromised points in the brand.

I still like my Genesis overall even if it does have some weak points. I changed out my flicking LED map light recently with a $10 OEM LED replacement bulb I bought off Ebay. However, I did not have any mechanical issues in 2015 model with over 70k miles. Maybe the 5.0 models has a beefier driveshaft. The driveshaft issue does seem pretty common with 3.8 owners.

I’m glad you see that. I absolutely really do love my car. Hyundai told me that you can’t replace just the light unless you know how to solder.

If you can't do it yourself, any radio, TV, electronics tech can do it for probably 20 bucks. A smart dealer would have it done and make a nice profit on it.

I’m gonna try a small shop. Hyundai quoted me a very high price

That's the dealer for you... I go to my long time Indie shop that also services Mercs & BMW's. They tell me that the Genesis is actually not that tough to work on.

I am not certain about the rear dome lights, but my front map lights are not soldered into the sockets. You have to use a flat head screwdriver to turn it to remove the LED light from the base.

The rear dome light has the same slotted bulbs as the front map lights. I bet the side map-lights have the same bulbs inside the cases as well.

The rear map light unit. The bulbs are the black slotted units.

Here are the stock LED map-light bulbs. Pricey for one bulb.
