I own a beautiful White colored G70 (3.3 V6); let me tell you, it’s a hell of a car. It’s got launch control and it’s 365HP and 376TQ put a smile on your face. However you can’t just expect an engine to do all the work for you and perform like butter when you’ve neglected it’s transmission?(It’s name by itself is a testament to what’s it’s designed to do in the first place, it transmits the power from the engine to the wheels and how effectively it can do that job varies.) Likewise, Hyundai’s in-house designed 8-speed automatic transmission is pure dogshit, holy Hell I’m not even exaggerating, it needs a ZF 8 speed transmission or maybe even the Veloster’s Dual-Clutch transmission. I for the life of me can’t understand why they thought this 8 speed would be adequate for a performance model, this car was designed to compete with likes of the C class and they gave it an automatic that practically granny shifts through the gears. When on full throttle, each gear switch sends the dial back to 4500RPM which means the engine has to keep working harder and this causes drivetrain loss, a dual clutch or even a properly designed automatic (*cough cough* the ZF 8 speed) can keep the engine reving easily at 5300-5400RPM all while staying close to it’s next shift point. This 8 speed that my G70 came with is about the only complaint I have with it and they need to change that. I’ll show a comparison between a pull I did and one done in Alfa Romeo with a ZF 8 speed and the difference will be seen evidently.
