Steering wheel "Click" sound

I brought my car in for this sound and they said they checked it out but it was normal and blah blah blah. However, once I got the car back, the noise was gone. My theory was that just the act of messing with it might have quieted it down.

If you want to take a crack at it (and I haven't done this personally), the steering U-joint is behind the firewall and there's a little plate covering it. You can probably unbolt that plate and then get access to loosen/tighten the U-joint bolt and spray it with some WD-40 or something. Worth a shot if it's bothering you.

Thanks for the advice. It doesn’t bother me that much and I bet they will say the same to me when I do bring it up. Just worth a shot to make sure there isn’t anything important going bad, steering is important haha

You might want to thoroughly investigate it. Mine was coming loose, and I had to hear the "click" before the steering wheel actually started turning the wheels.

So glad I am now rid of my G70. That thing had the worst craftsmanship of any car I've owned.

1000% if mine had any actual effects besides the sound I would have taken it in already. Sucks you had such a bad experience with yours but my little issues have yet to add up to bad craftsmanship in my mind since each one has been taken care of at an oil change I already had scheduled. Where I get valet no questions asked. Genesis has more to go in terms of the service experience and dealerships no doubt but it’s all relative.

Just curious, were you the poster on reddit who lemon lawed his G70 and then CT4-V before landing on the IS350? If I recall he had a bad u joint on his steering wheel.

I had my G70 for over 2 years and no clicking. I do remember my old 15 genesis used to click when turning the wheel but nothing happened mechanically beyond the noise.

2021 Lexus IS 300 AWD. Not fast, but quick. More importantly, built like a tank, with incredible fit, finish, panels gaps, etc. I can see why it costs the same as a G70 3.3T despite being slower. The front double-wishbone suspension is another reason....so very comfortable.

If you feel mechanically inclined to do so, you can replace it yourself. It's what I would do. Give the finger to your dealership.

New OEM clock spring can be bought here on eBay, straight from Korea, $75 shipped...

I had the same problem with my '19 Stinger, happened a few months after I bought it, mostly happens when the car is colder. Dealer said they didnt hear anything. Like everyone said, it is most likely the clock spring. I have changed COUNTLESS clocksprings on Kia/Hyundai products (I have a a small car rental car company, mostly comprised of Kias and Hyundais) and its SUPER easy to do, takes maybe 30 minutes if you do it REALLY slowly and carefully if you have never done it before. I can do it in about 10 mins now. Theyre all built the same, just watch any youtube video about clocksprings on any modern Kia/Hyundai

Is this the sound? Link is to a google drive video of my wheel. It's definitely getting worse as time goes on. Of course when I took it to the dealer the sound mysteriously disappeared. I'm getting my brakes down tomorrow at a local shop I trust and asked them to take a look if they have time.
