  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Reviews

What concerns me about that, is a dealer simply installing a hitch isn't good for more than maybe a bike rack if there is no 9 pin connector, and a plug under the dash for a trailer brake controller. And most aftermarket hitches are not hidden very well.
I just bought a GV80 3.5T advanced+ with the installed OEM hitch primarily for its towing capacity of 7700 lbs. It comes with a standard 7-pin trailer plug which I will use with the bluetooth CURT 51180 Echo Mobile Electric Trailer Brake Controller. Since the hitch is not hidden very well, I added a DNA Motoring HITST-2-40-111-SS-T1 Oval Hitch Step that looks nice and protects the bumper when not using the hitch. The strange thing about the OEM hitch is that it comes with no ball and a 1" shank hole. A 2" ball with a 1" shank is rated at 6000 lbs. I wonder what's necessary to get the full 7700 lb towing capacity.

I thought towing capacity was 6000 pounds. Where did you see 7700 stated? TIA.

Canadian journalists seem to really like Genesis and Kia products.

Reviewers are cashing in on the Tiger Woods accident.

Nice and well-deserved article. But read the comments. The Hyundai dealership experience is really hurting the brand (and Genesis corporate isn't helping). The overwhelming majority of the comments are ones like these, praising the cars and slamming the non-luxury buying and servicing experience:

---------------

"Bought a GV80 recently. Not a really pleasant experience trying to find the right model (3.5 Prestige) in the color combo we wanted. Dealers were totally not helpful with that. We have always had Mercedes, Audi, Lexus,... Genesis wants people to believe they are a luxury brand when in fact, they are all housed at the back corner of Hyundai dealerships sold by Hyundai salespeople and I'm sure, serviced by Hyundai service techs. When Honda, Toyota, Nissan,... came out with luxury brands, they built NEW dealerships for a reason; to differentiate them from their economy brands. I feel like I bought a really expensive Hyundai right now. I had some questions about some of the features of this technological wonder on wheels and the salespeople had absolutely no clue what they were talking about except to just make up answers! That lead me to try and contact the Genesis customer service website. I got a case number right away (automatically) and now, 2 weeks later, I'm still waiting for an answer."

"I have been trying to buy a Genesis G80 for two months. The dealership in my area built a ram shackle hut for it's showroom without any cars. All the cars are on the lot full of dust and covered in plastic."

"Speaking from personal experience, the biggest hurdle is dealer service!!! ...Genesis (priced $$) vehicles are being serviced at hyundai dealers by hyundai customer service reps and technicians. While that generally means pretty reasonable (for a dealer) prices for service (ex. mount/balance & alignment), the entire experience is exactly the same as bringing in a hyundai accent. Some dealers will designate a specific rep for Genesis customers (they are usually friendlier and more professional), but that's only precious few that decide to. Either way, they don't offer luxury car service other than a loaner for maintenance/warranty. Zero differentiation from Hyundai."

" '...customers are finding their way to showrooms.' Trouble is they aren't Genesis showrooms. Part of the luxury car business is not just the vehicle itself, but the buying and owning experience, in a nice dealership with the requisite amenities and level of professionalism and service not associated with how lower end cars are sold. While a Hyundai dealer may be able to technically service the Genesis models, the customer is generally going to feel no different that the owner of an Accent or some such. Sorry, not acceptable."

"1) Genesis needs its own dealerships. 2) Hyundai/Kia platform positioning is a mess by any measure. 3) They just started selling SUVs. Genesis makes solid cars by all accounts. However, they at least need to require separate staff and a dedicated floor space at Hyundai or Kia dealerships."

"Love my GV80 great value for the vehicle. Hands free driver with key fob parking, stylish head turner with lots of stranger comments including 2 noting Bentley as manufacturer. Dealer and Genesis Connect service awful. Hyundai dealer no help with the complex tech in this vehicle. Genesis Connect can't connect me. Probably better service if I bought a Kona. Long road to luxury branding with service."

etc.

Good to know the Tiger situation led to positive press for Genesis. Hopefully this leads to exponential growth for Genesis, since it seems once people see/hear about the GV80 they're drawn to it. And more mainstream growth for Genesis means they're more likely to invest in less sales-focused models like a new coupe or sports car :).

Very interesting review.

We have a GV80 Prestige in ATL and when I push the "auto parking" button in this video all we get is different camera views. Are we missing something?

I haven’t tried it but I think you have to press and hold.

Yes, press and hold the button for auto parking. It will come up with directions on the screen at that point.

Thanks very much! That worked. Very cool.

I agree, it worked well in a mall parking lot when I showed off the feature to my father-in-law and he came away impressed (he's 82 and at this point terrified of parking unassisted).

It's a different matter on Manhattan streets, where it would actually be helpful with parallel parking but is far too slow to not cause a build-up of traffic on the street behind me, so in that situation I find it's much quicker to just do it myself.

I tried to use it IRL the other day and when I pulled up to the car in front of the space to back in some S$@#THead pulled straight in and blocked me, the car put itself in park when he did this to stop from hitting him because I was already backing in to the space. It takes all kinds. But it't nice to know that the car will avoid backing into a dumba$$ when necessary.

Tommy's right, Roman is stuck in the '80s (plus think he was trying a bit too hard to play counterpoint).

That bright red leather (with all that piano black gloss on the dash - ughhh) reminds me of Eddie Murphy''s leather outfit from Delirious.
