I've only had the car for a few weeks but the crying soot exhaust tips were driving me bonkers while everything else about the car wasn't damaging my calm. How can I mod the exhaust tips to deal with the drippy black soot tears on the chrome tips that detract from an otherwise fine looking vehicle? Since I've played with Plasti-Dip in the past I decided to take the chrome tips off, apply the Plasti-Dip to see how the tips looked blacked out. If I hated it, I knew I could just peel off the Plasti-Dip so the appearance mod is non-destructive. Since the Genesis sedan 3.8 exhaust tips are far removed from the hottest portion of the exhaust + not directly attached/welded to the existing mufflers it seemed like Plasti-Dip might be a decent option versus busting out the high temp BBQ paint for the blackout experiment. It's been raining and the roads are still covered in crud but I'm pretty happy with the appearance mod and I've had good experiences with Plasti-Dip on past vehicles. Cost of mod $6 for the can of Plasti-Dip. I did about 6 coats over the course of a day before reinstalling the tips.
