  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've only had the car for a few weeks but the crying soot exhaust tips were driving me bonkers while everything else about the car wasn't damaging my calm. How can I mod the exhaust tips to deal with the drippy black soot tears on the chrome tips that detract from an otherwise fine looking vehicle? Since I've played with Plasti-Dip in the past I decided to take the chrome tips off, apply the Plasti-Dip to see how the tips looked blacked out. If I hated it, I knew I could just peel off the Plasti-Dip so the appearance mod is non-destructive. Since the Genesis sedan 3.8 exhaust tips are far removed from the hottest portion of the exhaust + not directly attached/welded to the existing mufflers it seemed like Plasti-Dip might be a decent option versus busting out the high temp BBQ paint for the blackout experiment. It's been raining and the roads are still covered in crud but I'm pretty happy with the appearance mod and I've had good experiences with Plasti-Dip on past vehicles. Cost of mod $6 for the can of Plasti-Dip. I did about 6 coats over the course of a day before reinstalling the tips.

If it were me I would have added the glossy plasti-dip clear,

Matte looks ok, but to me the G80 looks classier with shiny tips.

Any experience with using the metalizer? I was thinking about revisiting with some flair like the glossifiier or metalizer (graphite). Now that I know I like the darker look I may get them powder coated if I don't experiment with Plasti-Dip flair post processing.

I’m playing with it now, thinking of doing some on the trim on my Palisade in plasti-dip black with the gloss finish.

Can’t do my chrome tail pipe covers on the Palisade, as they are actually welded to the muffler unlike the G80

Why dont you see if a muffler shop can do dual tips ? Dual tips would make your car more aggressive looking and possibly unleash more of that v6 growl, maybe look into it.
