  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, this was weird to me. I went to register my car with Stargard and the remote app and in both it told me that the vin was already registered to someone else?

Is this normal or has my dealer sold me a used car and told me it was new? It has 100 miles on it.

At the very least as part of getting your car, the salesman should have set this up for you. We sat down for about 30 minutes setting mine up. Maybe you can go back and get some help?

I dont know what Stargard is. Genesis' service is called 'Genesis Connected Services'

Ah, maybe that's it. They already registered it for me, and I went and tried to re-register it to myself.

They did not sit down with me and do it.

Stargard is basically "find my car". In case someone stole it or you forget where on earth you parked.

Well I googled it and it looks like some extra 3rd party lojack not associated with Genesis. I would get rid of that asap.

Genesis Connected Services already offers stolen car GPS and forgot where you parked features.

You might want to do a CARFAX on it. 100 mi. seems a bit excessive.

100 miles could be possible if the car was used for a lot of test drives. I had 26 miles on mine, actually brand new.

Doing more googling:

OP, did you buy this car from a low credit place? Stargard is literally a lojack installed by dealers in order to repossess cars from people they think wont make the payments. Its for those shady used car dealerships selling cars to people with credit that cant actually afford them

Nope.. regular dealer, and I have an 818 credit rating. They just handed that over and said, here you have stargard.

Damn, I just went through the paperwork and they did charge me for that. My fault for not reading close enough. :(

Maybe it was supposed to be Asgard. Thor would know. How much did they charge you?

Theres nothing normal about a dealer installing something extra like this, not telling you and charging you. Especially since the car already comes with GPS tracking FREE for 3 years through Genesis Connected Services. This is a scam plain and simple and I would raise hell in person, via emials, and through reviews until they gave me my money back

EDIT: also have them take that crap off your car. You dont need it, you dont want it. Get it out of there completely

Extremely sleazy on the dealer's behalf. Might be the kind of thing one would want to let others know about.

Yeah, I just called the salesman and asked him - he said "We install that on every vehicle". I'm going there today and will ask that it be removed.

Don't be shy, let us know who the dealer is. I've know other dealer that have done such things for a few extra bucks.

good luck with that. highly doubt they will remove it or refund it, you signed on it. been down this path a few times over the years with GM and Lexus installing LoJack or other "security" devices in new cars and then saying it can't be removed blah blah blah.

Just Bought a Hyundai Palisade and the dealer pulled the same crap, but I told them in writing prior to placing my deposit I would NOT agree to any dealer installed options and I would not pay for them, and the sale rep agreed and said they would not prep the car with their standard add-ons.

well they did and tried to charge me $1,200 for them, I refused and told them I will walk away from the whole deal, as they were informed prior to my deposit I would not pay for them.

they "couldn't" remove the items so they claimed, but I ended up not having to pay for them, so I got some freebies.

I see some mentions of the Stargard device running car batteries down. I would surely remove it.

WTF, this sounds crazy. As if dealers weren't bad enough to begin with, they keep finding more sleazy ways to screw people.

I read online it's a $695 dealer add on. It said some dealers install it on all new cars on their lot. Extra money for the dealer. It appears that it's connected to GPS to keep track of the vehicle.

Re: Lo-Jack. I bought a used Infiniti which had been purchased new by a doctor in NYC environs. The car was 70,000$ new. Lo-jack was installed and I was told by the seller. At a service visit to my local Infiniti dealer I made a random comment to the advisor about it and he said the Lo-Jack rep was in the showroom speaking to sales staff. I strolled into the showroom and joined the group. A former police officer was the Lo-Jack rep and his younger female an assistant. The rep was showing the technology and offered to take us on a demonstration. I joined the staff in the van. No one questioned me. The young woman was to find an out of the way location with the test vehicle and activate the signal and the rep had the homing equipment in the car which was the same that police had in their cruisers in most parts of the country. After a few minutes he stopped and turned on the signal finder. Nothing. He went to the rear of the van to confirm the equipment was operating and...nothing. He was sweating. His test was turning into a fiasco. He broke protocol and called her to ask about the situation. The phone rang and went to voice mail. He was stumped. The car was gone. We sat there looking at each other. His phone rang. She said that she had gone to a location behind an office building and triggered the device. Within five minutes a police car was on her scene. He was talking to her when the rep called and she was not allowed to answer the phone until the cop was satisfied with her documents and explanation. Our rep then went to her location and as we entered the office park the police cruiser was leaving. She was there, safe, and she explained that the police were quite close when she triggered the signal and were on her faster than she could imagine. It was the best demonstration possible. So much so that later I wondered if the whole thing was an elaborate staging.
The van returned to the dealership and I left confident my car would be found. No one in the van ever asked me why I was there.

sounds staged, cops do not respond to LoJack alerts, you must go to them, with the LoJack info, they will validate who you are, then they will activate their equipment to home in on your vehicle.

LoJack is not an active alert the police system, it is completely passive and requires the police to activate the signal to your car via their equipment. not vice-versa

I noticed many of the used cars I was considering had these lousy add-ons for $599-699. They are similar to what you described and some are even more invasive with the ability to disable the car. I believe these products were created to allow the sleezy buy-here, pay-here dealers to disable and repossess cars if the owner is behind on payments. When you read their websites they highlight the profit making opportunities for the dealership as the main feature of the product. One brand was Karr. I did not buy the car because it was already installed. They offered to not charge for it but it would remain installed. I did not want a car that had it's wiring tampered with by a hack to install this garbage.
