My wife's 2017 Santa Fe Sport is ready for an upgrade and I was eagerly awaiting the GV70 as we don't need the larger platform of the GV80. We've had a 2015 Genesis sedan and a G70 Prestige and after many generations of Audis, have been impressed with the quality and value of the brand.Could be, and I agree that people might be ready to buy it, only if the price of a 2.5T fully loaded trim is under ~47-48k or lower. I don't think that'll happen, it will probably be closer to ~50K which makes this not worth the price unless the driving dynamics is amazing. The Q5 for this year is a mild-hybrid by default. But yeah let's see what happens in the end. If the price is around 50K, new Tucson/SantaFe(Calligraphy) seem more worth the money
Friday we went to our local Hyundai/Genesis dealer with the intent of getting in the queue for a full loaded 3.5 Prestige Sport as that was the only model that was configured with all the features we wanted. Ideally, we would have wanted a 2.5 Prestige but the configurator shows that there are only black interiors available in that model, regardless of exterior color. Additionally, no rear seat heaters or heads-up-display are available at that level, only the fully loaded 3.5 Prestige Sport. Seems like a lot to spend (still don't know how much) for those three features.
While at the dealership, the new Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy caught our eye. We drove one. We bought it. Hampton metallic Gray with tan/black interior. There are no options on the car. They're all standard at the Calligraphy level of trim. Rear seat heaters: check. HUD: check. Light colored leather interior: check. The 2.5 engine is the same engine in the GV70 but de-rated to 266 HP at the same torque spec. It's connected to the AWD system through a wet clutch 8 speed auto with paddle shifters. The performance is impressive. It's essentially a 70% scale Palisade with a better engine.
Anybody that is looking at the 2.5 GV70 should give the Calligraphy a look. It isn't a Genesis, true, but is shares a lot of it's components and at $42K, it's a bargain vs: any of the competition, and I'm not easily impressed.
Thought I should share this with the community.
