  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Home screen freezes up

I had posted on this thread earlier with my issues. I wanted to post this follow up to provide any help to individuals still suffering from this issue.

I did reach out to MapnSoft by phone to suspend my subscriptions per the advice of this thread and this resolved my issues. When the fix became available OTA a week ago, my subscription was automatically reinstated as my radio indicated, “subscription updated” while driving and the system continues to operate normally. I am within my trial period and the expiration date is the same (no extension for lost services). I have a 2019 G80 Sport.

I still think the lack of communication from Genesis is problematic. As owners, we should not be reliant on a third party website for resolutions like this. The most concerning part is that not even the dealerships were made aware of the issue, progress to resolve, or fix since late January to now in April. Of course, one may argue they cashed in by replacing a lot of head units for no reason. No doubt Genesis will feel the financial loss from this that could have been avoided with better communications with their dealer network, regardless of the source or blame of the issue being SXM.

My car has a very recent recall on the ABS, but no report from Genesis as of yet. They indicate they will have a fix this month. On to the next issue...

This is too bad as the car seems nice and I still enjoy driving it, but we all have to weigh if the lack of support network and obscurity of the brand may reduce the quality of ownership beyond the cost savings. I, for one, would have argued this to be irrelevant at the time of my purchase. But my logic may have been flawed. With the 2021 G80 now coming in about $10k more than what I paid for the new model, I am unsure how they will compete with other similar brands.

Thanks for reading.
How do I contact MapnSoft and are you able to get all the Travel Link Data Services without any negative effect on Sirius XM functionality?

The radio in the 2017-2019 models is probably different than the ones from 2015
It is, the 2015 has different memory modules and motherboard...I think even different CPU (older Intel or Nvidia). 2016 and up rides on newer Intel Atom CPU and Samsung made memory. 2019 and up got changed again...

UPDATE:

I was called by my dealership and they told me to turn the car on, get out of the garage, let it run 10 min, then initiate reset while the car is running...

So far all XM functionality is back, travel link, XM radio, Traffic, Weather etc and I have not experienced freezing. (Knock knock quickly...)

I will drive this weekend with navigation guidance and lets see what happens.

Again I have got the Gen 2 premium system, G80 Ultimate 5.0 from 2017 and the latest OS installed with latest maps.

I will check back after this weekend drives

I do not believe contacting MapnSoft is required since there is now a fix being pushed out over the air by SXM. Some have suggested several car start and off cycles followed by a radio reset (tiny button my SXM logo on right of radio requiring a paperclip) that you could try if you still have the issues. Otherwise, MapnSoft contact information is located on the same website you visit to download software updates for your car. I believe there is a link when you log into your Genesis account on the Genesis web page. Hopefully, this helps.

Just to chime in and say that I have the same problems as everyone else here ('18 G80 Sport) and am anxiously awaiting a solution. What's interesting here after reading through the thread is that the problems all started at about the same time. Mine started on February 4. This definitely suggests that the problem is Maps/SiriusXM software download related, not hardware. It's also not related to Genesis updates as I have never done an update.

The latest April 2021 update is now available:

Notice | Official Genesis Navigation Update Website

The release notes only refer to New Features and make no mention of any bug fixes. Hopefully it resolves everything including the XM preset numbering issue.

I'll report back once I've downloaded and installed in the next week or so.

I recently installed the April update on my 2019 G80 sport. I was no longer experiencing the lockup issues prior the April update after contacting MapnSoft to disable my data subscription in March. Several weeks after I contacted MapnSoft, I received a note on my screen while driving indicating subscription had been updated. I checked my subscription status on the radio and it showed my digital subscriptions had been reinstated. I did not experience the issues again after this process. However, I did want to get the April update installed to see if the issue is resolved on this version and experience any enhancements that were included. After installing the update, I can report I still do not experience the lockup issues. Not many changes I with my version outside some map visual enhancements and return of the cancel route button with navigation.

In summary, I don’t think the April update will resolve the lockup issues as they were likely resolved with an over the air update from SXM. Also, I believe the update is working well and will not return the issues to your car. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks to all that are contributing to this thread.

Thanks for being the guinea pig and try the latest update with respect to this freezing issue. My issues ( on 2017 Ultimate 5.0) were resolved in early April, as I followed my service adviser's instructions reset procedure since they said the XM signal/data issue had been fixed. I will go ahead and upgrade to the April version.

For those of you that have a 2015 Ultimate. I am currently still experiencing freezing issues with my head unit. I know someone mentioned before that it could be my hardware going out. My car only has 34,000 miles and I really don't want to have to drop thousands of dollars to fix my radio. I really don't think this is the issue though. I feel like I would have started to notice the decline in the performance of the system. What happened to mine was it was working one minute and not even 30 seconds later when I turned the car back on, it started freezing. I feel that I would have noticed issues before if it was a hardware issue. I feel like this is software. I am going to wait and see when the new software comes out to see if it will help. I just hope I can update it with the system being frozen. Any suggestions or hope that I am not going to have to pay thousands of dollars?
Have you tried the April update yet Reedssadler?

Unfortunately, I am going to have to buy a new radio. Once I have it, I fully intended on updating to the new system. It really stinks having to spend $3,800 to get back to normal but I need my radio. I have been without it for about 5 or 6 weeks now. I only had the car for about two weeks before it started freezing so I am ready for things to be working again.

What is the new update like? New features? I am running on version 4 so things will a lot different for me.

Did you explore all options we discussed on this thread?

Also who said you need a new radio?Maybe taken it to a different service location to ask 2nd opinion...

I've been to 4 of them and basically told too bad. It is not the SiriusXM issues. I dealt with those as soon as I was aware of them. This something that happened along side of it that has caused the free available memory to be used up all of the time. Someone else in the thread had the same issue. Thanks for looking out though, it is just an annoyance that has happen to my car.

I see, I am terribly sorry to hear that... I think you said you had the 2015 head unit, that I believe is different hardware than the post 2016...

If you really need a new head unit, maybe look around online or check forums where maybe you can get it cheaper. I guess if you get one via dealership you get warranty on it too so well maybe that worth the extra money...

You guys are making me question if I really want a 2021(or 2022) G80.

The system in my 2017 Cadenza SxLimited works great. (So far).

When I had my 2009 Genesis V8, the SXM Sometimes would stop working, but would reload at next startup.

Matter of preference, Some people hate the new G80 and the lack of V8 unlike the previous gen. Try both (Ultimate 5.0) and the new fully loaded V6 (since no V8 for the new one thus far....maybe the upcoming sport...)

Reedssadler's may have a 2015 but his car only has something like 35k miles. That sucks that he have such an expensive repair with a car that has had that little use. With the way this has been handled, I think all of us will have to rethink if we want another Genesis.

Maybe... but for me everything turned out fine...and remember...people forget fast.... Remeber other brands fiascos? Yeahhh this was nowhere near that bad as the GM's ignition system failure, Toyota's sticky break pedal problem, or BMW fuel pump/system FUBAR situation.... All forgotten mostly by now...

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I'm having the same issues as everybody else. I upgraded to 14.10 a month ago and it seemed to work fine for a couple weeks and then about 2 weeks ago I've noticed the following:

  • Random Freezing screen
  • Unable to change the SiriusXM Channel (Each channel shows "Acquiring Signal...")
  • Periodically SiriusXM pauses and it flashes "Featured favorites updated" on the top of the screenand then SiriusXM starts up again
  • Randomly going to the Home screen

I've reset everything to Default settings in the System Info screen and did a reset of the head unit by pushing the button right above the CD player for 5+ seconds and the issue just comes back.

There might be something to the SiriusXM theory causing the issues since I didn't have any issues for the first 2 weeks after the update AND there are some people experiencing the issues without updating. Since then, I noticed the issues occasionally, and now it happens EVERY time I drive. I tried timing how long it takes before the issues start popping up, but it seems to be random.

The only fix is to either turn off the car or do a hard reset of the unit, but that only fixes it temporarily.

My warranty is nearly up and I thought about taking it to the dealership, however, this is clearly a software issue(possibly SiriusXM content) and not a hardware issue since a lot of people are experiencing the same behavior for the past couple weeks.

Please share if you find the magic bullet.

My issues were resolved with a combination back end change on the SiriusXM side and the April 2021 Version 15 update. I suggest updating to Version 15 to see if that resolves your issue. If not, you have a different problem, but at least you are under warranty.

Read this whole thread for all the details.

So, I solved my Navigation Freeze problems early last March, by calling XM and cancelling my Subscription with the 'Complimentary' Nav Traffic stuff. And then subscribing to just XM radio with a New Account.... A few days ago while driving my car with the Navigation engaged, I noticed a bunch of Yellow traffic warnings on my Nav Screen. This morning, I thought I'd check and sure enough all of the Subscriptions to Traffic, weather, stocks and all of the other stuff was back and it said I was 'Subscribed'... My Complimentary Subscription was supposed to end on May 1 of this year......

Does anyone know how long I will be subscribed to this 'Free Stuff'? --- Apparently then enabled my subscription as part of their 'Fix' for the Freezing escapades.
