Navigation update.... what to expect?

Just attempted a Nav Update in my 2015 genesis ultimate. Followed the instructions exactly on the myhundai.com site. Here is what happened. After prompting the update in my vehicle, it appeared it was starting. Suddenly, the nav screen showed up and everything else stopped. I attempted to start the process over, but the button to start the update was not active and would not allow me to take that step forward. I stopped the update.

I then checked the Nav and notice the appearance of it was different. I then entered a route to see if it was updated. A major street near my house was just re-routed in the last few months and sure enough, the new re-route showed on the navigation. So, that tells me that part worked.

My question is this. The myhyundai instructions said the nav and software update would take up to three hours. Mine was done in less than a minute after reinserting the new sd card. Am I missing something? What software and navigation was supposed to change? It appears the nav did, but are there software updates that I missed or didn't load or I should see? Or, is the only thing in a 2015 that changes in the update is the Navigation (new routes, POIs, etc.)? I concerned that there are "new" features included in the software update that will improve my vehicle experience, such as receiving or sending texts through the system. My car is a 2015, but only has 18,500 miles, so it is basically new. So, I want to get the most out of everything possible with the upgrade and my car.

I am curious about this too. I have a 2015 with 28k miles on it. I never even knew you can update the software

I just updated mine (2015) last week, took about 30-45ish min to complete. I know there was a UI change in the NOV update which I applied, but I would assume it would be in the most recent update as well. Are you using a Hyundai supplied SD card or one that meets the requirements?

Where do you get the SD card? I bought my car used. I would like to update it as well

Bought an SD card that met the requirements. Took about 40 mins. to go through the 2 updating cycles.

You can go to Hyundai Mapcare | Customer Login and order a SD card with the map data loaded up, but any aftermarket card that meets the requirements will work when you use the map updater.

Go to Staples for the SD card cost you about $15 for one it must be a 32 gig class 10 card.

I have a 2015 genesis 5.0 with the 9.2" screen. My update did the same as well. Copied files to sd card, installed into sd card slot in the car and it just booted up with the new maps in about a minute. Tried to go to the settings and do a manual update and it said to install a USB stick.

Also after the update, my volume button is messed up. When in nav screen and playing music, the volume button would not increase or decrease the volume of the music, but instead would change the navigation volume.

Not sure what to do?? Maybe try copying files to usb and retry the update?

Doubt the USB will help. Does the volume on the steering wheel work properly?

After my 3rd update to date, the voice command lady is still as dumb as a box of rocks. Whe I ask her to find a place or call someone etc, I'd say 60% of the time, she either "can't understand " me, or "finds" something completely different than what I asked for.

Doubt the USB will help. Does the volume on the steering wheel work properly?

The volume works with radio if only using the radio, both volume knob and steering wheel. The moment I use the nav with the radio, the nav takes over the volume control... both the knob and steering controls. Not sure what to do as I don't have previous files for downloading.

I think you are insulting the box of rocks. Trying to make a call often brings up a list of a few choices, not the one I asked for. Maybe 10% will properly connect on one try.

Mine works properly but I have a 2018 and may be slightly different. If a problem with your version they hopefully will correct.

Seems the subject on the 2021 April Map update is in quite a few places but I thought I'd give you my thoughts since I've had it installed for about a week now. I have a 2016 Genesis Ultimate with a 9.2 screen. No problem loading it to a 32GB SD card on my computer and installing it in my car. The actual update took about 20 minutes. Here's my impressions. They still only have a choice for the display screen of Moca, Caffe and Milk. They are terrible. Bring back my original display. The Pause/Cancel route button is now the reverse of the November 2020 update. Cancel is present and to Pause hold the Cancel button down. Now for the less than solid programming errors. All of the preset radio stations have been duplicated. After updating I had to manually remove every other one to get back to normal. AND all the presets are in numerical order and NOT the order I want them be as before. And the last item (not a biggie) All the Previous Destinations for Navigation have been removed. All past upgrades left those intact. As for the actual Map Data, it has finally, after 2 years, updated some roads that are now right turn only. Hope this provides some info for anyone upgrading.

An update. I copied the files to a USB stick and went to the settings menu and used the update button.it updated the nav and everything is working great including the volume control. Apparently the 2015 needs to use a USB stick to update the software.

True. My 13.5 update came with an USB stick. The instructions stated that 2015 models with the jog controller must use the USB stick and SD card to update.

One of my previous updates (I can't remember which one, but it might have been 13.5) needed the USB stick to update. I haven't needed the USB stick since, even if it was included in the package (like the picture above, the instructions said to use the USB stick if the update button is grayed out). The update took about 30-45 minutes each time. I suspect that there may be one major update that needs the USB stick, but once that's complete any subsequent updates can be done with just the SD card.

I didn;t have to use tthe usb stick for my update , in my 2015 it seems to be working ok. Am I missing something for the update . By not using the usb stick.

Hi guys I just received my sd card from Genesis. I followed all the instructions but it not even loading the updates is like the system doesn't recognize that the sd card is inserted. Can anyone help?
