  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2 years on are the Genesis Engines outclassed?

In Europe a sports sedan has 200hp. The power levels in the US are ludicrous and unused by nearly all drivers. However, the new Sonata (with DI) really represents a bold product move to leave off the over powered option to design a better car.

Nearly all cars specify synthetics, although I thought more like 0-20w or 5-30w. The thinner oils with tighter bearing clearances can significantly reduce friction losses. NASCAR stock cars used 0 weight for qualifying before the rules outlawed it.

Fwiw, Hyundai calls the Genesis a sports sedan, and I agree with that given what package a sports sedan typically has, especially rwd, which is a huge factor in vehicle dynamics and the personality of the car. If you want a Hyundai family sedan, the Azera will meet your needs with less power and fwd. And power isn't just about geting up to the speed limit, its also for avoidance at speed, and for smaller bursts when you want or need it, imo.

I perform full power starts frequently , because I travel on lightly loaded two lane roads and I am a 4 year old at heart....

For how long? past the 1-2 shift (about 40mph)? Does the traction control kick in?

For what is worth I prefer sports cars that are small, light, and with a peaky engine. Those can be driven hard. 3500# 5sec 0-to-60 cars with broad power curves (like my Supra TT) are next to impossible to drive hard on the street. And not safe enough to drive hard on the track.

Note: on a typical short track oval, a super late model (500hp, 3000# with driver, about 6:1 overall ratio) are only foot to the floor for 3-4 seconds on each 'straight'. Without shifting (stock cars don't shift during the race) that is about a 75 to 105 mph sprint on a lightly banked 1/3 mile track.
