Honest? I’m here and very interested in replacing our totaled 2015 Audi Allroad with 2.5T Select GV70 or 2018 used Macan. Im gonna sound grumpy here but I’m a reformed Teutonic car snob and I know this because the Steering
wheel of non sport GV70 bothers the snot out of me. But its not enough to get the “Sport” and the boy racer red stitching and obscene exhaust holes.
This cross over is for my wife. We also share a German 2 seat convertable with Manual so we not looking to get our GForce Fix from a compact cross over. I’m smitten with the Porsche Macon. Performance and reliable are nice but maintenance will be costly. I go in with my eyes wide open. I’m also not so much into my cars as I used to be and find repairs now a pain in the ass. My budget is around 45k US Give or take.
Side by side the GV70 holds up well and perhaps I’m leaning towards the Genesis as projected costs are good and not every car has to be life changing experience. I’m not going to be the daily driver but I will be driving from time to time and get a say. If we go Macon I will be responsible for its upkeep.
We usually compromise on color and I ask we don’t go overlay effeminate but she gets final say. AKA, I don’t want to feel like I’m driving my wife’s car or “your mother gets white with tan, please don’t pick that!” Honestly the base model is pretty attractive also for the money. I’m a drive train guy over amenities so that’s going to sway my decision.
Wife is fine and walked away from accident where she was not cited for any infraction. We really wanted to wait a few years as the Allroad only has 65k miles on it and wanted electric for next vehicle. Choices are slim and not a fan of Tesla.
The design of the GV70 would have to be appreciated in person and how it “feels”. I expect lots of heavy padding and stictching inside with bejeweled shiny surfaces to seduce my softer side while the Macan Teutonic design with oh so many buttons will elevate my testosterone if owned. One does not bemoan repairs but finds bragging rights to why brake calipers cost so damn much on a Porsche! Its not about adding carbon fiber on a 4000lb crossover and calling it sport! Real sports cars hurt the wallet bad!
Ok, I did own a 2004 2.7T Allroad with 6MT and it was burgandy! So why does this Genesis Burgandy scream “Hairdresser car” to me? Its roots are not in Germany! I admit it.
Honestly, when it comes to Genesis Im more ”Peter Gabriel” then “Phil Collins”! But I appreciate a good tune and a good car! I’m looking forward to the test drive!
